Chapter 455
Wooing My Ex-Wife
When confronted with her question, Kieran didnât flinch. âI only know I must obey my superior, so Iâll do what you say, Ms. Mossey.â
Inez was at a loss for words.
His words sounded extremely pleasing to the ears. The main role of a secretary was to assist his or her leader. With Kieranâs high education and good looks, he was more than qualified for the position.
Inez simply stated in response, âBeing my secretary requires a high level of competence. I expect everything to be understood in the first instance. Iâll give you a seven-day trial period. If you fail to handle all tasks flawlessly, youâll have to leave Mossey Corporation. Do you have any objections?â
âI have no objections to that.â
âGreat. This is a collaboration proposal sent from overseas. I want you to translate the entire document into Chanaean and submit it to me before noon.â Inez intended to make things difficult for him. She sorted several Greganese business plans and passed them to him.
Kieran calmly took the documents and briefly skimmed through the words. His cool and composed demeanor remained unchanged. âSure.â
Inez knocked on the desk and emphasized, âYouâre known for being a man of few words, but that wonât work here at Mossey Corporation. You should reply, âYes, Ms. Mossey.ââ
Kieran let out a rare chuckle. âYes, Ms. Mossey.â
He took the documents and turned around, preparing to leave.
âWait,â Inez stopped him again.
âWhatâs wrong?â
Inez stared at him solemnly. She first corrected his words, âYou should ask, âDo you have any further instructions, Ms. Mossey?ââ
Kieran managed to withhold his laughter. He asked in a proper manner, âDo you have any further instructions, Ms. Mossey?â
Inez was somewhat satisfied. âGo and get your office desk moved in, and place it inâ¦â She scanned the surroundings. Finally, she pointed to an empty space behind the visitorâs couch. âMove it over there.
Itâs closer to me. I can oversee your work and assess your performance at any time.â
Kieran couldnât ask for anything more than working in the same office as her.
âOkay.â The moment he finished speaking, he immediately sensed Inezâs intense stare. He hurriedly corrected himself, âYes, Ms. Mossey.â
Without wasting any time, he turned around and walked out. As he was reluctant to bother others, he personally carried the chairs and move the desk.
Another female assistant, Yvonne Coleman, who was outside the CEOâs office, immediately stepped forward to offer help. âMr. Harris, how about I give you a hand?â
Without lifting his gaze, Kieran responded with a cold tone, âNo thanks.â
Since he had to come in and out several times, the door to the CEOâs office was left open.
Inez heard everything distinctly, and her expression soon turned grim.
However, Yvonne, who stood outside the door, did not perceive any unusual aura emanating from her CEO. Her attention was wholly focused on Kieran.
Given his striking looks and the mention of his single status on his resume, anyone would feel drawn to him.
She enthusiastically approached him as she took a tissue and asked in concern, âMr. Harris, youâre sweating a lot. Shall I help you wipe it off?â
Before Kieran could refuse, Inez impatiently exclaimed from the office, âWhatâs taking you so long to move a workstation? If you keep messing around and causing delays in my work, both of you can leave tomorrow!â
Yvonne was startled and immediately apologized, âIâm sorry, Ms. Mossey. Iâll get back to my place and focus on my work right away.â
Without the annoying chatterbox next to him, Kieran quickly moved his belongings. Ten minutes later, he closed the office door.
Inezâs desk was positioned horizontally, but Kieranâs workstation was arranged vertically. If he wished to look in Inezâs direction while sitting on the chair, he had to turn his head.
However, Inez didnât even need to raise her gaze. With a quick sidelong glance, she could observe all of his movements.
Although they had known each other for quite some time, this was the first time they had been alone together in the same environment for such a long time.
Inez felt a subtle surge of emotions in her heart.
Over the past few days, it would be a lie for Inez to say that she did not feel Kieranâs sincerity.
However, she would never give in easily. She was determined to show Kieran that she was not a woman to be taken lightly. She would go above and beyond to prove herself and hoped that he would come to treasure her efforts in the future.
If Kieran could not handle it during this period of time, then he was definitely not the right person. It would be best for her to cut all ties and move on then.
Her thoughts were clear and unwavering. As she pondered, her fingers continued to tap on the keyboard without pause.
After an hour and a half, the office remained filled with nothing but the mechanical rhythm of their keyboards.
Occasionally, Inez would secretly raise her gaze and cast a distant glance at Kieran who sat opposite her.
His features were remarkably attractive from the side. As he immersed himself in his work, his expression remained serious, but there was a subtle aloofness that emanated from within him.
The sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating his side profile and casting a radiant glow upon his face. It was a presence that couldnât be ignored with a mere glance.
Kieran, a prominent figure in the entire Chanaea medical community, had unexpectedly joined the small-scale Mossey Corporation in Fairlake and taken up the role of a mere personal secretary for her.
This feeling was quite peculiar. However, it was not unpleasant, but rather delightful.
She stared at Kieranâs face in a trance. She did not notice at all when he had turned his face and made eye contact with her. âMs. Mossey?â
Inez felt slightly embarrassed as she suddenly came back to her senses. She put on a strong front and said, âWhat are you looking at? Those Greganese proposal documents are not easy to translate. If you donât finish them before noon, I wonât spare you!â
Kieran was slightly taken aback.
Wasnât she the one who looked at me first?
He did not want to humiliate her. Instead, he said, âIâve already translated everything. Would you like to have a look, Ms. Mossey?â
âYouâve finished translating them all?â she asked in disbelief.
Translating those five Greganese project proposals would take a long time as it involved researching and inputting each word and sentence online for translation, followed by verifying the accuracy and manually inputting one copy.
However, Kieran was able to finish it in just an hour and a half.
It was truly astonishing.
âAll right. Send it to me. Iâll take a look.â
Kieran immediately did as told.
Inez opened the file and quickly skimmed through it. She didnât notice any glaring mistakes and found the input to be organized and clear.
He had even translated some originally complex Greganese sentences into clear and understandable phrases.
She looked at him in astonishment and exclaimed, âDidnât you major in medicine? I didnât expect you to know Greganese.â
Kieran pursed his lips slightly and replied, âItâs a standard requirement for all children in the Harris family. When we were young, we had private tutors who taught us eight different languages at home.
Itâs mandatory.â
Inez blinked as her gaze remained fixed on him.
However, in her heart, she couldnât help but be amazed by the distinct manners and rules of a prestigious family.
She asked curiously, âAre your private tutors strict? Do they resort to physical punishment for making mistakes?â
Kieran replied, âThe private tutors wouldnât physically punish us. However, after finishing our home economics class every day, my elder brother would take a ruler and meticulously inspect our academic progress by going through every word and sentence.â
âSo your family also resorts to using a ruler like that. Have you ever been punished by your older brother?â
Kieran shook his head in response.
Inez was surprised. âNot even once?â
âNo. I have a reserved nature and rarely make mistakes. Treyton and Kiddo get punished more frequently.â
Somehow, Inez began to have the idea of messing with him.
She picked up a whole stack of files consisting of over forty foreign documents and said in a teasing tone, âBefore the end of the workday, I need you to translate all of these. If you canât do it, I donât mind using a ruler to help you complete your childhood memories.â
Kieran fixed his gaze on the towering stack of documents and subconsciously checked his watch. He realized that there were still two and a half hours until lunchtime.
It took him an hour and a half to translate the five documents. Translating these over forty documents before the end of the workday was not a simple task.
