Chapter 463
Wooing My Ex-Wife
Chapter 463 I Shall Accompany You As Kieranâs fingers froze over the keyboard, he found himself glancing subconsciously at the time on the bottom right corner of his computer screen.
He quickly did the calculation in his head. He had only an hour and a half left before the end of the day, yet a pile of paperwork still awaited him. It would take him at least fifteen minutes. to make a cup of coffee.
Inez reminded him, âMr. Harris, you have already wasted two minutes in a daze.ââ
Startled into action, Kieran rose from his desk and headed toward the pantry to prepare the coffee.
A few employees were already there, idling away their break over a cup of coffee.
As soon as Kieran stepped in, all eyes turned toward him like magnets as they stared fixedly at his sternly handsome face.
A quiet flurry of whispers followed.
The head of the sales department, Dora Torres, was visibly starstruck. âIs this really Ms. Mosseyâs new secretary? Such a good-looking man with a fine stature and excellent. demeanor is almost irresistible.â
Other female employees chimed in enthusiastically, âPursue him, then. Rumor has it heâs single. Once heâs taken, there wonât be another chance like this!â
âHe applied for a secretarial position here, so heâs probably not wealthy. I think you should think this through,â one woman said.
Unfazed, Dora retorted, âWhatâs there to be afraid of? I have money. I can support him! All he needs to do is to be tall, handsome, and physically fit!â
The other women clicked their tongues and playfully pushed Dora over. âWhat are you waiting for? Go get him!â
Dora stumbled forward and fell toward Kieran, who was engrossed in making coffee.
Although he was focused on brewing the coffee, he had heard every word they said.
Swiftly, he sidestepped as Dora lunged at him. Her nose made a harsh collision with the coffee machine, narrowly avoiding a bloody mess.
Throughout the whole incident, Kieran maintained his stoic demeanor, never once sparing the woman a sideways glance. He continued to stir his freshly brewed coffee.
Dora rubbed her throbbing nose awkwardly, for Kieran had ignored her completely.
She made a hasty retreat to her friendsâ side.
However, her friends passionately signaled for Dora not to be afraid and pursue the man.
It is always easier for a woman to pursue a man than vice versa! Go get him, Dora!
Dora was at a loss.
In the end, she mustered the courage to approach Kieran again. In a small voice, she asked, âMr.
Harris, are you available this evening? Would you like to have dinner together?â
Kieran was never one to spare a single glance at a woman whom he wasnât interested in.
Undeterred, Dora circled back in front of Kieran. She twirled her voluminous curls and assumed a friendly and seductive. pose.
âItâs all right if youâre busy tonight, Mr. Harris. Perhaps we could catch a movie over the weekend? Your fingers look so slender and elegant. Even when youâre making coffee, itâs done with such grace. If you do play piano with those fingers, I wonder just how many girls will fall for you,â Dora added.
Kieran glanced at his hands.
These hands are not made for music. Theyâre best suited for holding a scalpel and cutting open human flesh. If I share this with them, will they think of me as a madman?
Silently, he pondered as he added three sugar sachets to the coffee.
Dora was relentless in her pursuit. She tried to get close to him. âI heard youâre single, Mr. Harris. We have many beautiful girls here at Mossey Corporation. Is there anyone who caught your eye? Even if I donât have the luck, I could play matchmaker for you.â
Kieran paused momentarily. With an icy voice, he replied, âYes, there is.â
Doraâs interest was piqued. âReally? Just tell me who youâre interested in, Mr. Harris. Iâll help you get her.â
An image of Inez, deeply concentrated on work, flashed across Kieranâs mind. âI like Ms. Moss-â
Knock, knock!
The sound of a soft knock came from the door of the pantry.
Everyone turned to the source of the sound, where they found Inez standing expressionlessly with her gaze sweeping over everyone present in the pantry.
Everyone, except for Kieran, rose from their seats and bowed slightly at her. âHello, Ms. Mossey.â
+5 Bonus She acknowledged the greetings with a simple hum, then turned toward Dora. âInstead of working hard for the company during working hours, you took the lead in gossiping in the pantry and discussing personal matters. Do you think thatâs the right thing to do?â
Doraâs face turned pale. âIâm sorry, Ms. Mossey. I wonât do it again. Iâll return to my desk and focus on work now!â
Inez narrowed her eyes and snapped, âYouâd better.â
âYes, of course,â Dora said sheepishly.
Everyone scurried back to their desks, and within a few seconds, Kieran was left all alone in front of the coffee machine.
Inez crossed her arms against her chest, her gaze falling on Kieran naturally. âYouâve been making a cup of coffee for quite some time now, Mr. Kieran. I thought you were lost, but it seems that you were too engrossed in chatting with the young women and forgot the time.â
âInezâ¦â
She didnât want to hear any explanation. With a huff, she turned around to leave.
Kieran quickly finished preparing the coffee and went after her.
âThey approached me first, but I didnât pay them any attention.â
While walking, Inez asked, âIs Dora attractive?â
âHuh?â Kieran was taken aback. âWho are you talking about?â
âIâm talking about the woman who just asked you to watch a movie with her this weekend.â
Kieran tried to recall, only to realize he didnât remember what she looked like. âI didnât look at her properly. I donât know what she looks like.â
Inez snorted lightly. âYou guys seemed to have had a good time chatting, and yet you canât recall what she looks like?â
âUmâ¦â He tried to recall again and replied honestly, âI think⦠she had straight and long black hair?â
Inez suppressed the urge to laugh and didnât reply before pushing open the door to her Kieran placed the cup of coffee on her desk and returned to his own desk opposite her, preparing to get busy for one final round before it was time to get off work.
From across the room, Inez watched him, her gaze distant. âI have dinner plans this evening. We wonât be heading in the same direction, so you can stay back at the office. Once your tasks are completed, you can head home.â
âA date?â Kieran was slightly stunned. He instantly turned to meet her gaze. âWill there be many people? Men or women?â
âSince when did secretaries get to inquire about their bossâ private matters?â
âAs your secretary, it is my duty to ensure your safety. I wonât allow a repeat of what happened last time with Percy.â
His tone, although carrying the formality of his secretarial role, was imbued with a cold. aloofness, an unyielding force. There was no hint of deference in his words, and it seemed as though he wasnât open to negotiation on the matter.
Caught off guard, Inez took a moment before answering his question. âIt seems that there will be both men and women. Itâs a business gathering. There might be alcohol involved, but it shouldnât lead to a situation like last time.â
In a determined tone, Kieran replied, âSince itâs a business gathering at the corporate level, as a secretary, I should be by your side to attend to your needs. Therefore, I shall accompany you.â
