Chapter 524 Is This How You Apologize
Wooing My Ex-Wife
High fevers?
Gwendolyn held her breath as her countenance turned solemn. The next moment, she turned on her heels and headed for the door. âLetâs book plane tickets right now and return.â
âCalm down. Darling Cedrick held her by the wrist. âItâs nighttime in Chanaea now. We didnât bring our private jet here this time, and weâre not sure if there are flights going to Chanaea at night. Even if we leave now, the flight will be more than twenty hours long.â
Shooting him a cold look. Gwendolyn retorted. âThen are we going to sit back and do nothing? Cedrick, the kids got sick because weâre away. Arenât you worried at all?â
She flung his hand away and strode out of the venue in her high heels.
Cedrick let out a long sigh and chased after her. âItâs my fault this happened. Iâm also worried about the kids, but itâs going to take too long for us to get back. Iâve informed Charles about this over the phone and asked Nico to call for pediatricians from the Jenson familyâs medical corps.â He walked beside Gwendolyn. âCharles promised me to look after them. Heâll stay with them and make sure they take their medicines and get their shots, so rest assured.â
Without saying anything. Gwendolyn walked ahead. From her frosty expression, it was obvious she was in a terrible mood. Her silence was like the calm before the storm.
His Adamâs apple bobbing. Cedrick trailed behind her obediently as he racked his brains for something to say.
âDarling, the kids are still young. Getting minor sicknesses like this is a normal part of growing upâ¦â
Gwendolyn suddenly paused in her tracks and looked back to glare at Cedrick.
Feeling her deadly stare, Cedrick quickly shut his mouth and followed her meekly.
The two of them walked back to the hotel in silence, and the entire time, Gwendolyn was on her phone looking for plane tickets, All flights returning to Chanaea that night were fully booked, so she could only choose the earliest flight the next day. That meant it would be midnight again by the time they arrived.
Just the thought of her young children suffering from high fever made her heart ache.
At that moment, Gwendolyn wished nothing but to teleport to the childrenâs side to take care of them.
Upon reaching the room, she began packing her things.
She had booked a six oâclock flight for the next morning, so she wouldnât have time to organize her luggage after waking up.
She had to sort out the things she needed now to save time the next day.
The atmosphere in the president suite was tense.
Cedrick stood there quietly for some time. Seeing that he was being totally ignored, he couldnât help but feel upset.
He stepped forward to lend Gwendolyn a hand, but the moment he squatted down to tidy up the luggage, she walked away.
âGwenny? Darlingâ¦..â
The lack of response from Gwendolyn suffocated Cedrick.
On their flight to Astoria, Gwendolyn had mentioned that she wouldnât let him off if anything were to happen to the kids.
Cedrick would rather she hit him to vent her anger than give him the silent treatment.
While he was thinking of that dejectedly, the sound of footsteps approached him.
Raising his head, he was met with the terrifying sight of Gwendolyn clutching a clothesline pole.
âDarling!â
Cedrick shot up to his feet and retreated in a hurry, gulping nervously.
Gwendolyn marched toward him with an intimidating aura until he was forced into the corner of the wall.
Despite his strong physique and broad shoulders, Cedrick looked weak and helpless at that moment.
âDarling, letâs not resort to violence and talk this out properly instead. What youâre holding is made of steel! Are you going to break my legs?â
Gwendolyn pressed the end of the clothesline pole firmly against Cedrickâs chest and warned, âCedrick Jenson, is this how you apologize?â
âIâ¦â Cedrick was at a loss for words. He raised both arms in surrender. âI was wrong.â
âHow so?â
Even after giving it a hard thought, Cedrick was unable to come up with an answer.
Gwendolyn stared at him, disappointment and disbelief evident in her eyes. âIf you had stayed at home to take care of the kids and not sneaked here, Summer and Mdm. Yarde wouldnât have brought them to the garden, and they wouldnât have gotten sick. Everything could have been prevented. Cedrick, even we adults feel awful when weâre running a fever. Theyâre just kids. Donât you feel guilty that your children are suffering because of your willfulness?â
Cedrick couldnât refute at all.
After all, he was indeed at fault for the kidsâ fever.
He felt horrible. Not only did he cause the kids to get sick, but he also made Gwendolyn feel miserable.
âIâm sorry. I was thoughtless. I accept my punishment.â
Resigning to his fate, Cedrick walked to the side of the table, bent over, and propped his elbows on its surface.
Without hesitation, Gwendolyn swung the pole down forcefully.
Smack!
As the pole hit Cedrickâs thigh, a solid smack rang out.
Cedrick hissed and tightened his fists, enduring the pain quietly.
Smack! Smack!
Another two blows landed on the same spot.
âOwâ¦â
The thighs are one of the most sensitive parts of the human body when it comes to pain. One could only imagine how excruciating it was for Cedrick, especially when he was hit consecutively.
Trembling slightly, Cedrick turned around pitifully and croaked, âIt hurts so much⦠Darling, are you really going to break my legs?â
Gwendolyn gazed at him without a word, her arm still lifted.
Although she did not affirm or deny his words, it was obvious she felt sorry for him.
Cedrick immediately grabbed the chance and pleaded, âDarling, my legs are very important. Can you let me keep them so I can make up for my mistakes?â
âStop sweet-talking me. What did I tell you on the plane? If you had really taken in my words. Benny and Zendy wouldnât have ended up getting a fever.â While Cedrick remained silent, Gwendolyn continued, âIt hurts me to think that my children are suffering from fever. It seems that you have no conscience at all. Youâre acting nothing like a father!â
âIâm upset, too. I feel bad for the kids and you,â said Cedrick with an ashen face..
âThis all happened because of you, so itâs only right that you take responsibility for it. The pain shouldâ
help you reflect on your mistakes properly.â
Cedrick was rendered speechless by Gwendolynâs reasoning.
Much to his helplessness, she always had a valid reason to punish him.
âAll right, itâs all my fault. I deserve to have my legs broken.â
Despondently, Cedrick returned to his position earlier and braced for the pain to come.
Gwendolyn tightened her grip on the clothesline pole, but she did not move even after a long time.
Naturally, she couldnât bear to actually break Cedrickâs legs. Even the thought of hitting him until he bled a little felt too cruel.
However, she couldnât just back down since she had already thrown out those harsh words. Caught between a rock and a hard place, she stood in place holding onto the pole.
Is This How You Apologize Just as she was stuck in a dilemma, her phone rang with a video call from Charles.
Heâs probably calling to update me on the kids.
Gwendolyn tossed the clothesline pole almost instantly and swiftly reached for her phone on the bed to accept the call.
Cedrick heaved a sigh in relief. He rubbed his thigh discreetly and approached Gwendolyn.
Once the call was connected, Charles handsome face came into view. He was wearing loose pajamas, which revealed his delicate collarbones.
Rage kindled within Cedrick, and he couldnât help furrowing his brows.
Gwendolyn paid him no attention. She was fully focused on her phone screen as she asked. âHow are the kids?â
Charles pulled the camera away from him to show her Zendaya, who was lying on his lap with flushed checks due to the fever.
The medical corps of the Jenson family had arrived and were preparing to give her an injection.
Zendaya seemed to know that she was going to get a shot. Her face was scrunched up as tears glistened in her eyes.
When Gwendolyn saw Zendayaâs pitiful state, her eyes reddened as well.
