Chapter 1019
Julian’s Stand-In Wife
With Simon around, Diana couldnât fully let go.
She had to suppress her happiness. She needed to take Simonâs feelings into account.
âYou go and play with the kids. Iâll stay here with Simon,â she said.
âItâs okay. The attractions theyâre playing are child-friendly. Iâve arranged for an assistant to watch over them, so safety wonât be an issue. You can go play on that one.â
Julian pointed to the carousel.
âWeâll be waiting for you outside the carousel. You can see me and Simon anytime.â
âThatâs right,â Simon said. âYouâre already here. Wonât you be disappointed if you donât go on any of the rides? Go ahead.â
He smiled. âMy brother and I will be waiting here. Just look up, and youâll see us.â
This was Simonâs way of saying he was fine with Julian accompanying him.
When Simon called Julian his brother, Dianaâs heart skipped a beat. She instinctively glanced at Julian.
Fortunately, it seemed he was immune to the term now.
âGo ahead,â Julian said.
Encouraged by their words, Diana hopped on the carousel.
Despite her age, it was her first time experiencing such a ride. âI used toâ¦â
She was overjoyed.
With a cheerful voice, she said, âI used to think this was only for kids. Turns out, adults can have this much fun too!â
Julian smiled. âYouâre not an adult, youâre a princess. My princess.â
Diana didnât deny it. They seemed to be unable to look away from each other.
Simon couldnât keep smiling any longer.
âI want to get some fresh air in a less crowded area,â he said.
Julian wouldnât let him move. âCome, now. Donât you like Diana? If Diana sees you leaving, sheâll think youâre upset.
Are you willing to make her unhappy? Surely not.â
Answering his own question, he kept Simon in place. âJust wait here.â
Then, he glanced at Simon again. âActually, youâ¦donât want to wait with me, do you?â
Simon didnât speak, but his eyes betrayed him.
Julian chuckled. He took off his coat, along with Dianaâs bag and the twinsâ water bottles, and placed them all in Simonâs lap. To Simonâs surprise, Julian walked towards the carousel.
âThanks for holding down the fort, little brother. Since you donât want to stand with me, Iâll reluctantly stay with your sister-in-law.â
He turned to Diana, looking slightly upset.
âSimon doesnât like me.â He forced a bitter smile. âYou know, he calls me brother on the surface, but in his heartâ¦â
Julian waved his hand dismissively, appearing unwilling to elaborate further. He signaled the carousel operator to stop the ride momentarily.
Before Diana could react, he joined her and sat behind her on the carousel horse. âBut he does like you. He likes you so much that he actually asked me to play with you, just to make you happy.â
Diana found that a bit hard to believe. âDid Simon really say that?â
âOf course,â Julian replied, holding Dianaâs hand. He beamed, and swung her arm playfully as he shouted loudly at Simon. âBrother, Iâm accompanying Diana on the ride. Are you happy about it?â
Listening to Julianâs triumphant words, Simonâs face nearly turned green with envy. Nonetheless, he could only force a smile and shout back loudly, âYes, Iâm happy.â
What would Diana think of him if he said he wasnât happy?
She might see him as petty.
Julian was putting Simon in a tight spot, not allowing him to complain.
However, Simon could do nothing. He could only laugh and say, âHave fun, you two.â
Of course, Diana couldnât continue enjoying herself. She felt uncomfortable leaving Simon alone in his wheelchair while her family had fun.
However, Julian didnât let her go.
âHeâs trying to be kind. Given his personality, wouldnât he think youâre looking down on him if you insist on leaving the ride? He wouldnât want you to cater to his emotions. Heâd really hate it.â
Simon was determined. It was precisely that determination that often put Diana in a dilemma.
Now, she was caught in a similar dilemma.
