Chapter 1220
Julian’s Stand-In Wife
Diana leaned against Julianâs chest, gasping for breath. Her small face was flushed from exhaustion.
Julian feared hurting her with too much movement, so he quickly resumed massaging her to relax her muscles.
Diana lay half-reclined on the bed, comfortably enjoying the fruits placed within her reach.
âIs your knee hurting?â Julian asked.
He originally hesitated to bring up the topic, but he couldnât hold back.
âIn the future, donât kneel for anyone. If Iâm not around, let Noel handle things. If Noel canât handle it, just leave it be. You canât continue to neglect yourself like this.â
He held her knee, gently moving it back and forth. What Diana had suffered in the Jarvisesâ residence was nothing compared to the emotional turmoil she was experiencing now.
A spark of defiance lit up in her eyes. In Julianâs presence, she was undoubtedly the boss, and she adopted a commanding tone.
âWhat are you implying? Should I just ignore you if you get into trouble in the future? Am I that heartless in your eyes?â
Julianâs hands never stopped massaging her, but his voice suddenly turned melancholic. âIâd rather you were heartless.â
If she was heartless, she wouldnât have kneeled. She wouldnât have injured herself on the forehead.
She wouldnât have been running around while pregnant.
âAnyway, once Iâm gone, our considerable wealth will all be yours. What are you afraid of? Just donât bother with me anymore.â
The more Julian spoke, the more out of place it felt.
Diana became furious, and refused to let him continue massaging. She raised her foot and placed it on his neck.â Go ahead and die! If you die, itâll be just me and the children. Heartless scum.â
Hearing her unusual tone, Julian knew she was genuinely angry. He dared not say anything more that might upset her. Instead, he focused on her belly.
Rubbing it gently, he said, âI donât want to die. I wonât die so easily. Iâm just genuinely worried about you. I canât be with you every moment.â
At a time he couldnât ensure his own safety, he hoped she wouldnât do anything risky. Her primary duty should be to protect herself and the children.
âDo you regret remarrying me?â Julian asked.
âWhatâs wrong with you today?â
Diana sensed that something was amiss, and rolled over to press him beneath her. She held his cheeks between her hands and asked, âWhy do you keep talking about so many random things today?
Is it a side effect of Professor Hughesâs medication?â
âIt has nothing to do with that.â
Julian had been feeling quite comfortable after taking the medication so far, although he remained wary of Jimâs sudden appearance.
At the moment, he had no other option but to seek Jimâs assistance. These unapproved drugs flowing in his bloodstream did pose significant threats.
However, his priority was to stay alive to address other matters.
âWhat is it, then?â
âAfter Professor Lemmingtonâs passing, Mrs. Lemmington had a tough time.â
It wasnât about material hardships, but rather, emotional struggles.
âWhen I returned home today, I keep feeling anxious. I thought that if I really died by Enzoâs hand, then you and the children⦠Youâ¦â
âStop talking.â
Diana nestled in his arms, not moving. She held onto him tightly, as if she had found the safest place in the world.
âYouâll be fine. I wonât let anything happen to you. Iâll take this chance to ask Professor Hughes to help you thoroughly detox, and remove all those toxic substances from your body.â
But then, Diana suddenly sat up.
âWait a minute.â
Julian frowned. âWhatâs wrong?â
âWhy did you take the pill Enzo gave you?â
Given Julianâs character, even if Enzo held the twins as bargaining chips, he could still escape. It was hard to believe he would willingly take the pill.
âIâve already told you,â Julian replied. âEnzo threatened Sean. If I didnât take the medication, Sean would worry about you.â
âThatâs not it.â Diana didnât believe it. She got up, and kissed him on the face.
âYou better tell me the real reason you took the pill.â
Julian held her close. âUsing the seduction strategy, huh? Are you really eager to know?â
