Chapter 1530
Julian’s Stand-In Wife
Marcus glanced at her. âNina Ashlee.â
His tone was not heavy, but it carried a chilling undertone that made oneâs hair stand on end.
Nina realized she had misspoken, and had angered Marcus.
She quickly told Sean, âI need to do something with your godfather, so Iâll hang up now!â
Without waiting for Dianaâs response, she promptly ended the call.
âDo something?â Marcus leaned in so close that he was almost nose-to-nose with her.
The assistantâs eyes widened in alarm.
He wanted to shout a warning, âMr. Jensen, stay calm! You canât kiss her!â
But he didnât.
With an eerie tone, Marcus asked, âDo what?â
His hand gripped her chin tightly, almost as if he intended to crush it, and he leaned in closer.
Nina could practically see every detail of his smooth skin and the subtle tremble of his thin lips.
Ninaâs heart skipped a beat-not out of romantic feelings, but because the man before her was undeniably captivating.
Unlike Vans and Julian, Marcus exuded a chilling allure. Yet, his eyes were deeply passionate.
No wonder he consistently topped the entertainment charts as the most handsome man, according to public polls!
âN-Nothingâ¦â Nina tried to avert her gaze to avoid his penetrating stare, but Marcusâs grip only tightened.
âIf I hear you speak like that again, it wonât be as simple as that.â
His words were ambiguous, yet his chilling tone made Nina think otherwise.
âIâm sorry,â she quickly tried to explain, âmy godson was worried about me, and to reassure him and his mother, I just w Marcus wasnât interested in her explanations. He interrupted her, âDo you know Fanny Smith?â
Fanny!
Ninaâs full attention was instantly captured. âYes! I know her!â
She had discussed Fanny with Diana during their phone call yesterday, and now, Fannyâs name was making headlines.
Diana had sounded deeply concerned about it.
âMr. Jensen, do you know Ms. Smith?â Nina asked.
Marcus hummed in response before saying, âYou canât go home today.â
He glanced at the back of the car. âNeither can I.â
Whether it was Nina or his home, both were likely surrounded by the media, waiting to capture a photo of them together, confirming their relationship.Books Chapters Are Daily Updated Join & Stay Updated For All Books Updatesâ¦
Nina understood the gravity of the situation.
âYou absolutely cannot have any relationship with me.â
Forming a connection with her would be even worse than getting involved with the female celebrity Nina had photographed. At least that wouldnât completely tarnish his reputation!
âIt seems youâre quite self-aware, Ms. Ashlee.â
Nina felt the manâs words carried a mocking tone, yet his expression remained serious, making it hard to pinpoint any flaws.
She pretended not to catch the sarcasm, and said earnestly, âTodayâs incident started because of me. If anything happens in the future, Iâll definitely help you.â
âThereâs something right now.â
Marcus seemed like a wolf, ready to ensnare her from the moment he laid eyes on Nina. He instructed his driver, âGo to the location I gave you earlier.â
It appeared his visit wasnât solely related to the false reports about him.
Ninaâs heart started pounding. âAre you here today because of Fanny?â
Marcus nodded. âSheâs my benefactor.â
Now that Fanny was in trouble, he couldnât remain uninvolved.
The car sped away skillfully, and thanks to the driverâs expertise, they managed to lose the trailing media vehicles after a series of turns.
Thenâ¦
The more Nina observed her surroundings, the more familiar they seemed.
Soon, she exclaimed in surprise, âIsnât this the house Diana bought before?â
âDianaâ¦â Clearly, Marcus recognized the name and didnât avoid it. âFanny currently resides here.â
Fanny found herself cornered and dared not roam the streets aimlessly, fearing Oliverâs people might capture her. After thinking it through, she could only seek refuge in this house where Diana once lived.
She knew Oliver had sold this house to Diana. Oliver probably never anticipated sheâd seek shelter here.
