Chapter 1550
Julian’s Stand-In Wife
âHe doesnât need to be jailed,â Fanny said, confused. âOne word from him, and his lawyers will be able to exonerate him. I just donât understand why heâd rather go to jail.â
âHe wants to pay for his fatherâs sins,â Diana said with a sigh.
Fanny didnât know what to think of that. Was Oliver innocent, or not? He even went to such great lengths to stop her.
Yet, the moment she declared that she would never compromise and would rather be under the protection of Diana than to be involved with Oliver, he clearly looked like he was in a daze.
Diana noticed that Fanny hardly smiled over the past few days, and rubbed her hand comfortingly. âHe just wants a clean start with you.â
Fannyâs heart shook. She couldnât sleep the entire night.
The next morning, she told Diana, âTodayâs the day of his trial and sentencing. I want to see him.â
Diana asked Julian to send a few bodyguards with Fanny on her trip there.
When she returned, she looked as if a heavy burden had been lifted from her shoulders. Her eyes shone with hope.â Diana, I will wait for him.â
They would start afresh when he was done undoing all the wrongs his family did.
When everything had settled down, Diana was well into her pregnancy. Julian treated her like a fragile doll, cautious and worried about everything.
Aside from burying whatever was left of Simonâs remains, Diana stayed in bed most of the time. She didnât even leave her bed when Professor Lemmingtonâs wife came over to ask about Jim.
âJim received his just punishment, but what about Enzo Jennings?â
Enzo definitely had a hand in both Anna and Professor Lemmingtonâs death.
âThe Jennings familyâ¦â Diana mumbled under her breath after Mrs. Lemmington left.
The Jennings family were a thorn in her chest. Even Nina was affected by that family.
Things were going well between Nina and Marcus right now, but Diana had a feeling that Nina hadnât let go of Vans yet.
Meanwhile, Vans was still as stubborn as ever.
âJulian,â she said, wanting to discuss things with him. âTalk some sense into him. Vansâs medical skills have seen vast improvement. Many people who want him as their surgeon, even if he keeps a low profile.
âHe would have everything, even if he left the Stanley family.
âWhy is he trapping himself unnecessarily?
âHe shouldnât be using his mother as an excuse. If he truly loved her, he would help her overcome the demons in her, instead of allowing the demons within to swallow her whole and letting her stay by the devilâs side all her life.
âAll the more he shouldnât allow the love of his life to suffer for his sake. Thatâs what a coward would do.â
As long as Vans could come round to things, as long as he was courageous enough to resist, the insignificant Stanleys would have nothing over him and would have no control over him.
Julian was convinced. âIâll talk to Vans.â
One month later, when Diana was lying on the bed for some rest, she received a call from Nina.
Nina wanted to come and visit her, and ask Diana what she wanted to eat. She had been visiting almost every day as of late. She wanted to make up for Dianaâs previous pregnancy, when the latter had no one around her.
âNothing much,â Diana said after pondering for a moment. â No, wait! Bring me some ice cream!â
Julian refused to let her eat ice cream, and she wanted to seize the chance while he was out today to have one.
Nina agreed to it.
When she entered Dianaâs room, Diana closed the door excitedly and waited for Nina to bring out the ice cream.
She tore the wrapper open, and eagerly took one bite.â Delicious!â
Nina didnât dare to let her eat too much. âSlow down.â
Diana had half of the ice cream before Nina took it away from her. âIâll give you more tomorrow.â
Diana was going into labor anytime now. She had to remain emotionally calm right now.
Diana felt slightly disappointed, but she agreed to it. After cleaning up and destroying all evidence, they began chatting.
