Chapter Wife 108
The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles)
Chapter 108 Noelleâs cheeks flushed bright red, especially when Rowena started teasing her. She felt her faceburning and shot Rowena a joking look of annoyance. âYouâre the one to blame!â
âWhat are you talking about? Why blame me?â Rowena asked with a teasing smile. âLooks like youand your husband are getting along well!â
Noelle bit her lip, a little embarrassed. She had called Charles her husband without realizing it untilafterward. âWell, heâs pretty nice,â she admitted. She thought about how Charles had always beenthere for her, helping her constantly since they first met.
Rowena grinned. âAs long as he treats you well, thatâs all that matters. I was worried about Xavierand Winter getting you down, but you seem just fine. Donât be shy. Youâre married now! Live ahappy life and bring him out sometime to meet us!â
âSure!â
It had been years since Noelle and Rowena last caught up, so they had plenty to talk about. However, Noelle was worried about Charles not having dinner at home. Since she had promised tobring him something to eat, she quickly made plans for another meetâup with Rowena.
Seeing Noelle so focused on her new man, Rowena felt reassured. âI guess I donât have to worryabout you two! Youâre really a couple of lovebirds. Letâs meet up again soon!â
After dropping Rowena off at her hotel, Noelle got a call from Charles on her way back. âWhatâsup?â
âGo on. Enjoy your time out with your friend a little longer!â he said.
âHuh?â Noelle frowned. âDidnât you skip dinner? I got takeout for you.â
âNo need. Iâve got to head out now!â came Charlesâs voice, mixed with the sound of shuffling. Noellepaused, not knowing what to say. When Charles did not hear a reply, he added, âI need to make atrip back to the old Hoffman place. Thereâs some business to take care of.â
âOh!â Noelle glanced at the takeaway box in the front seat and managed a weak smile. âThatâsokay, you can go on. Iâll just spend some more time with Rowena!â
After hanging up, Noelle felt an unexpected wave of sadness.
She knew she meant nothing to Charles, but hearing him refuse the meal still made her heart sink.
Charles quickly changed and drove to the old Hoffman house, nestled near Mystic Crystal Hill in thesuburbs. Sir Hoffman loved peace and quiet, so he had moved the family home there over thirtyyears ago.
-As Charles pulled up to the gate, a servant hurried to let him in. âYoung Master, youâve returned?â
Charles nodded through the rolledâdown window. âWhoâs here?â
âThe master and the old master are in, along with the second master.â
Charles nodded again and went to park in the garage. As he stepped out, a small figure wrappedaround his leg. Startled, he looked down to see a child with a round, bowlâcut hairstyle looking up athim. âUncle, did you bring me a present?â
This little girl was his sister Chloeâs daughter, Anna. She was his niece. Most people in the Hoffmanfamily 1/2 were a bit wary of Charlès, but not Anna.
+15 BONUS Charles quirked an eyebrow and bent down to scoop Anna into his arms. âHey there! What are youdoing here?â
âI came with Mom.â Annaâs big eyes sparkled as she looked up at Charles. âUncle, did you missme?â
âOf course I missed you!â Charles directed a rare smile toward her. âWhat about you? Did you missme?â
âYes!â Anna giggled and planted a kiss on Charlesâs cheek. âMom says you donât have a wife yet, soonly Anna can kiss you for now!â
