Chapter 103
She Approved the Split He Fell Apart
103 Grew Up With Love Scarlettâs POV âAre you sure you are okay? You can cry if you want to Adrian asked for the third time I got back into his car. I told him he didnât have to wait for me, but he was still where he parked when I came out, just as surprised as I was when he saw me.
Iâm not that sad. Not like when I found out about the truth of my âfamilyâ, about how each one of them betraded me and wanted to cut things off me. They bought my life for their beloved daughter, whatâs so wrong in that?
Iâm actually happy now that their daughter is finally cured. They donât need me anymore.
âAva is perfectly okay now. Her status is stable,â I tell Adrian, feeling a longâlost lightness, âMaybe they wonât even chase after me if I were to tell them that Iâm leaving.â
âSheâs cured only by exploiting you!â Adrian rolls his eyes, complaining resentfully âI mean, to think about it, they paid for my life and my education, I would have dealt with them if they straight up told me that the condition would be providing her my blood and bone marrow, or more, your know?â Iâm surprised at how my whole life is such a big joke, yet Iâm able to laugh at it, genuinely, âFor an orphan who might not have a decent future, donât you think I also got a lot out of it?â
âIf they no longer need your blood, then you donât have to leave in such a hurry,â Adrian suggests with a cautious tone, âYou have friends here, and a job, need I remind you?â
âThere are so many better stories out there than my flat true love romance!â I lie back into the seat, laughing with him, âFrom one to ten, how much did your misplaced affection play in that decision? I want to know.â
Adrian shoots me a plaintive glare, but infected by my good mood, he laughs in the end: â...Five....
âI knew it!â I hit him on the shoulder, rolling my eyes to the sky. He puts on a painful look, umbling something about that only got me a ticket to his office, blah, blah, blah.
I canât hear it. Iâm drowning in the lightness of a huge burden off my shoulders. This is the place where I threw out my torn flight tickets with Aurora not so long ago. That time even the bright sun out there in the sky looked dim because I was mourning over my lost freedom.
Now I have got it? Even the black cloud over us looks artistic!
I have got my health, my education and my ability to support myself, my friends who care about me, and a real family waiting for me on the other side of a fewâhourâlong flight! I have got my freedom, AND got the weight of Avaâs life off my shoulder!
Nothing could ruin such a day because no one could stop me, not even Sebastian.
Goodbye, my first, and ever, love. It wasnât the best one, but it started with me being saved. Iâm glad I grew up with love in my chest, and maybe one day, I could smile when I remember the boy who saved me.
âWhat happened to your hard?â I ask, suddenly noticed a cut on the joints of his right hand. To look at it closer, his joints all look red.
âNothing...â Adrian raises his right hand briefly with an indifferent glance, adding when he sees my +25 BONUS suspicious eyes, âWould you believe me if I told you I put my fist through a wall?â
âBecause...of me?â I flinch backward, murmuring. Good thing Iâm leaving, which would be easier for him to shake off the âphantom limbâ of liking me.
Adrian shoots me a resigned look before bursting into laughter, âJust an accident!â
Ohh. I roll my eyes. He totally got mel âDo you think I could risk telling Aurora and Lilith about my leaving?â I pull out my phone, but not dare to dial, âCall me paranoid, but you have no idea...One summer I told ONLY Aurora about an escape, and Jack Fuller found me at night on the same day...â
âItâs fine, Iâll tell them once I land,â I close my phone, making up my mind, âThey can come to visit after. They wonât be mad...
right?â
âIâm sure they will understand,â Adrian says, glancing at me, âI donât think Jack Fuller can reach his hand far enough into the system, but I didnât book anything so there is nothing to be traced. We will get your ticket over the counter, and everything else you can replace.â
Thatâs the plan. All my stuff is with Aurora. She can bring them to me whenever itâs convenient for her. This is it, and nothing can go wrong!
âMiss Fuller?â
I froze when a guy in a black suit and sunglasses approached me by the gate of the airport right after I got off Adrianâs car when he went parking.
âBoss told me to wait for you.â
Blood drains from my face.
