Ticking Bomb
King Mafia and Mago
Ticking Bomb
The young boy hops descending the stairs as he hummed his favourite melody. Mago woke up in a good mood which was rare for his life, took his shower with a bright smile and blessed himself with some clothes rather expensive than his own.
Of course, he has chosen from the kingâs closet.
Excitement bubbled in his mind, and the boy jumped from the last stairs, stumbling in the middle, and swiftly landing in some strong arms. He giggled loudly patting at the olderâs chest to let him down.
Jayce, who was the one catching him in the first place was watching him from the start. He was about to ask Mago when Mago landed his small body in his arms and giggled as if he has achieved something big and super funny.
âyou could have hurt yourselfâ Jayce said a little complaining but Mago shrugged leaving the olderâs warm embrace and turned to look at him properly.
âbut I didnât rightâ¦.thanks to you,â he said while straightening the clothes that were a lot of sizes bigger on him. Jayce couldnât help himself but smile at the younger and ruffled his hair earning a glare from Mago.
Well not everybody is fond of ruffled hairs
Jayce stepped back a little from the feral kitten who looked like he was disturbed from licking his fur.
âso uhâ¦.did you talk to King about the party?â he asked changing the subject and was successful when Mago relaxed on his spot, smiling once again.
ânope,â he said popping the âpâ in nope. Jayce looked down with a saddened smile. Maybe he was expecting more from this new boy. Perhaps his fate was hard to change.
âohâ¦you didnâtâ he said with the same smile guilt trapping the younger who looked unfazed in all honesty.
âI told you I will think about it didnât I,â Mago said a little pressured by the way Jayce looked at him. Mago felt like he was forced and let me tell you something. When Mago is forced to do something, either he refuses it completely or destroys it completely.
âPeople say this shit when they canât do shitâ a new voice merged from the kitchen. Mago tilted his head to look at the intruder and then scowled at the rising star known as Garry.
âGarry!â Jayce hissed at his brother.
âdonât waste your time brother. King hasnât allowed this showpiece here to demand from him. If he is still thinking that means, itâs a no from my stubborn nephewâ Garry uttered pointing at Mago.
The boy looked at Garry with something burning in his eyes.
Maybe rage or hate.
That was one piece of shit Mago was dealing with and he needs to be flipped off with a certain degree of rudeness and so he made up his mind.
He walked a few steps ahead and stared right into the tallerâs soul, gesturing him to lean down while he stood on his tippy toes.
Garry obliged with a smirk, nearing that boy was a dream. His fruity scent was doing something to Garryâs heart and well other parts too.
âthe man you say in your nephew is wrapped around my pinkieâ Mago muttered in a slow, steady, gritted whisper wiping the smirk off Garryâs face.
âI will suggest you watch your back. you know, in case I dropped some bad words about you regarding me in his earsâ the boy finished with a smirk. Jayce clasped his hand over his mouth dramatically knowing what can King do to his brother.
âSayonaraâ he chirped skipping away from the now glaring Garry and shocked Jayce.
âwhat is he?â the man asked with a chuckle that was nowhere amused.
âa ticking bombâ Jayce replied watching Mago as he turned the corner.
â¦â¦
Mago released a long breath after turning to the corridor of the kingâs office. He was good at acting, he knew that but certain acts take more of his stamina and courage which is not what he has in abundance.
Threatening someone without a solid backup is not worth a life right?
Reaching the giant door, he sighed in appreciation when there was no Charlton standing at attention. There were some other guards but they didnât stop him when Mago started to pound on the door.
Civilized behaviour doesnât work here in this mansion, Mago has realized that.
â¦â¦
King and Charlton were busy watching video footage over a laptop screen when they both flinched at the way the door was beaten down. they exchanged some unamused glances before King nodded at the guard and Charlton marched towards the door to open it.
As soon as he opened the door, he found Mago with his raised small fist in the air and eyes shining with excitement. Charlton felt himself melting at the younger.
Ahem!
âhey, Charlieâ Mago greeted while entering the room. Charlton coughed at his back and scowled at the younger who was yet again adorned in some baggy, large-sized clothes.
âdonât call me thatâ Charlton grumbled
âwhy notâ¦.itâs cool with your old shaggy personalityâ the boy replied eyeing the shining metal gun tucked in Charltonâs pants. He wanted to see it up close very badly.
âwhy you little-â¦â Charlton started but got interrupted by the voice of his boss.
âwhat do you want?â King asked in his roaring, dominant voice. Charlton stopped, bowing his head. Mago though, fully ignored King and rushed to the table near the window.
âohâ¦oh what is this?â he asked circling the small table as he racked the full frame of the shinning decoration piece. It was a pyramid-shaped hourglass with dim lights and an eye-catching texture of the sand.
âI need other recordings as soon as you can. Updates about new consignments, and yes the boy is due today so take care of it and when he comes, send him inâ King barked orders with a clenched jaw and Charlton hurried in leaving the room.
King resumed his work not bothering the younger who was now interested in some thick books on the shelves. The boy paced around the room until he reached King at his working table. He perched his butt on the table and picked the intriguing coloured paperweight.
âI got to learn something about you,â Mago said but got ignored cruelly when the king didnât even look at him.
âyour birthday is coming right?â Mago continued, pretty sure that king would listen to him now. King snapped his neck, glaring sharply at the younger who cowered but didnât let the man know.
Or so he thought.
âWho told you that?â he asked, voice laced with seriousness. King hated his birthday celebrations because of Jayce. Since the man entered their lives he made almost everything bitter which the king used to enjoy before. His birthday was one of that.
Jayce has celebrated his first birthday, after marrying Mr Xavier, with a great event. He went all out making arrangements and cooking his favourite food. King got to know it later in the day but when he did, his blood boiled and certain hatred took place in his heart.
Jayce had ruined Kingâs day by removing every single picture of his mother from the extended living room where he has organised the party. The pictures and paintings of his mother were precious as she was known to be the queen of Mr Xavier, the former mafia king.
On top of that, Jayce had unknowingly worn Mrs Xavierâs favourite jewellery giving an impression of him taking over her throne in the mafia completely. Murmurs and murmurs about the new queen were all king could hear in the lounge.
That day King shouted at Jayce for the first time. Snatching the necklace adorning Jayce's neck, King growled at him in anger.
That necklace was very important to his mother and after her, to the king.
Jayce, in his defence, cried and said that he sees the king as his own son. King growled at that and threatened him not to try and form relations with him.
âhe is your husband, I am not your anything!â he had screamed marching away from the living room. Mr Xavier didnât say anything at all this time. He gathered the broken Jayce and comforted him politely but that couldnât mend his broken heart.
Since that day Jayce has tried every possible thing so he could win the kingâs heart but it was to no avail.
âno oneâ King heard Mago saying but he knew where it was coming from.
âI know who is that bitchâ King muttered with gritted teeth.
âoh wellâ¦â¦makes my work easy soâ¦..he is organizing a part-â¦â Mago started but the king stopped him.
âThere is no partyâ¦..â the king announced with his eyes strict and tone firm.
âbut he has planned so much,â Mago said as a matter of fact
âI donât give a fuckâ King answered with the same tone.
âwhat has crawled up your ass early in the morningâ¦â¦you are so rudeâ Mago whined laying back on the table. He was laying flat on the table with his legs dangling from the corner, King watched him and found his anger vanishing from his mind when he looked at the younger wearing his clothes.
âThere is going to be no celebrationsâ¦end of the discussion,â the king said again but this time with a little softer tone. Mago raised his head to put it back on the table, staring at the ceiling design.
âdonât get all grumpy on me, boyâ¦..I was just sayingâ he muttered tiredly. At the back of his mind circled the words Garry has said to him earlier.
He was indeed unsuccessful in earning an approval
âdonât push my buttonsâ caught Magoâs attention. He raised his head again and sat up properly. King was still glaring at him but the look was nowhere scary.
âwhat button huh?â he asked with mischief swirling in his eyes.
âthis button,â he asked as he booped Kingâs nose with his tiny chubby finger making kingâs eyes go wide. Mago giggled loudly and when King tried to reach for him, to catch him, the boy scrambled off the table to rush behind the sofa like a naughty, excited kitten.
âlet me work nowâ¦..get outâ King chuckled while pulling his laptop in front of him again. Mago ignored him yet again, pacing around the room to look for his interests.
â¦â¦.
There was a knock at the door. King permitted the outsider and the door opened to reveal Mickey and Charlton. The boy entered to find Mago laying on his stomach on the fluffy rug with a bowl of dry cereal next to him and a sheet of world map splayed in front of him on the floor.
The boy was immersed in his map scrutiny.
âdid you find anything?â King asked and Mickey uttered a âyes Kingâ loudly, successfully taking the attention of his best friend Slash's soulmate.
Mago jumped right up and into Mickeyâs arms. the older pinched his cheeks and like a mother would do, checked his body for anything unusual. King watched them with a bored expression well aware of Mickeyâs tactics when he purposefully talked loudly.
âyou look expensiveâ Thatâs the first thing Mago said after engulfing his friend in a bone-crushing hug. The older of the two was cladded in an expensive-looking jacket, some black branded jeans and a turtle neck made out of wool.
âperks of being kingâs employee I guessâ Mickey said briefly not wanting to talk freely in the kingâs presence.
âsince when are you working for him?â Mago asked with a raised brow and big eyes. A combo perfectly set for baby cactus with soft spikes.
âsince a week or soâ Mickey replied with a smile charming on his face.
âAre you two done?â King asked boringly, impatient as he stared at them. Mago looked between King and Mickey before marching towards the mafia boss.
âyou know who he is right?â Mago asked and King raised his perfect daunting brow in question.
He doesnât know who Mickey is
âhe is Magoâs soulmate.â Mago clarified the doubt swimming in the kingâs eyes.
Oh yeahâ¦right
âif anything happens to him during your workâ¦..â he stopped as he placed his tiny thumb across his neck and did a slicing motion from left to right, threatening King for his life.
Mickey looked proud, King looked nonchalant and Charlton snickered at the scene. That said Mago retreated back to focus on his world map.
About forty-five minutes later, King and Mickey were done. Mickey told King about what he saw at the club and king assigned him some new work. It was time for Mickey to go now but before that, he had to ask something.
âkingâ¦.uh, I need a favourâ he said and the king looked at him signalling him to continue.
âI wanted to take Mago out for the dayâ¦â¦a whole day if possibleâ he explained.
âfor what?â King asked looking at the younger who was already looking at them at the mention of his name.
âitâs his birthdayâ¦..day after tomorrow actuallyâ Mickey said feeling Mago creeping behind him.
âitâs my birthday?â the younger asked making King look at Mickey in question.
âyes, Dumboâ¦â¦âMickey flicked at his forehead before pulling out a bar of chocolate and presenting it to Mago.
King didnât say anything for almost two minutes before he stood up ready to leave.
âitâs my birthday the day after tomorrow too and we are organizing a celebration. You should join us as wellâ the mafia boss said at the speed of light already reaching the door.
âWhat party? You said no party periodâ Mago countered with a confused yet accusing look.
âI donât know what you are talking about,â King said leaving them alone with Charlton.
âi donât KnOw WhAt YoU aRe TAlkiG aBoUtâ Mago mimicked with the powerful roll of his eyes making Mickey chuckle at him.
â¦.
