Twilight Sins: Chapter 30
Twilight Sins (Kulikov Bratva Book 1)
I grab Luna by the arm and haul her out from under my desk. She tries to beeline towards the door, but I spin her back and toss her down in my chair.
âWhat are you doing?â
âGetting what I was promised.â I grip her chin until her full lips part. âYouâre here to suck my cock, right? Thatâs why youâre wedged under my desk?â
She pulls away. âStop it.â
âThen answer me. What the fuck are you doing in here, Luna?â
âNothing.â She crosses her arms. âI was justâ ââ
âTell me the truth or I willâ ââ
âWhat?â She lifts her chin defiantly to meet my eyes. âWhat are you going to do to me, Yakov?â
I drop down in front of her and rest my palms on the arms of the chair. Luna cringes back against the headrest, but I follow her. I donât give her even an inch of space. Her panicked exhales mingle with mine.
âIf you were anyone else, youâd already be dead.â
She narrows her blue eyes. âBut Iâm not âanyone else,â am I?â
I was making a threat, but sheâs right. For some reason far beyond what I can comprehend, Luna is different. She stuck herself into me and I donât want to let go. Even though âletting goâ is exactly what I should be doing.
My knuckles are white from gripping the armrest. âWhy the fuck canât you stay out of it, Luna? I asked you to do one goddamn thing!â I shove the chair back. Iâm trying to keep you safe, and youâre making it really fucking hard.â
âAnd Iâm trying to trust you, but youâre making that hard.â
I shake my head. âI havenât given you a single reason not to trust me.â
âHa! Youâre kidding, right? Youâve barely told me anything! Iâve had to beg for bits and scraps of what is going on from you.â
âCount yourself lucky. I could have told you nothing.â
âYou probably think I should be grateful you kept this from me, too.â She grabs a folder off of the desk and throws it at my chest.
Benjyâs file. I havenât looked at it since the night I tracked him down to the bar. I could have shredded it once I was done with him. Iâve seen enough men after a fight to know which ones are going to get back up. Benjy isnât a fighter. Heâll stay down.
âMake whatever excuses you want, but you should have told me about this, Yakov. This was a lie.â
âThat piece of shit isnât worth lying about,â I growl. âHe isnât even worth talking about.â
âIs that why you didnât mention that you know him? Because he isnât worth talking about?â she snaps. âWell, I think itâs worth talking about that the man Iâm sleeping with has a file on my abusive ex in his desk. Are the two of you, like, working together? If this is some kind of setup, then⦠I donât even know how to make sense of that.â
âDonât fucking insult me, Luna. Iâd never work with Benjy.â
She throws up her hands. âThen what is happening? Is he the person Iâm in danger from?â
âIf Benjy was the problem, heâd already be dead.â
âI donât want to do this anymore.â She drags her hands down her face and takes a deep breath. When she looks up at me, there are tears in her eyes. âI canât do this anymore. I want to trust you. But I need more. Something. You said the other day that you wanted to tell me what is going on. So tell me, Yakov. Not all of it, but⦠something. Please.â
It would be better this way. If she left before I had to figure out how the fuck Iâm going to let her go.
But the broken look on her face doesnât give me a choice.
I close my eyes and sigh. âThe men who killed my father are after me and anyone close to me.â
âYou and I didnât even know each other.â
âDoesnât matter,â I tell her. âYou joined the list of people Iâm close to the moment you walked up to my table.â
She frowns. âWhy would they go after me? Iâm nobody. Isnât killing your father enough of a blow?â
The world is full of nobodies. Blank faces that make up the background of my life. Luna is not one of those people. Sheâs somebody to me, which is why Akim picked his target well. Anyone else and I may have let them die.
âIt was enough⦠until I got my revenge.â
âWhat does that mean? How did you get revenge?â
I shake my head. âThatâs not something you need to know.â
âOkay. Okay, butââ She takes a deep breath. âThey killed your father; you did something mysterious that I donât know about in retaliationâI get that. What I donât get is what in the hell this has to do with Benjy! Did you know who I was before we met at the restaurant? How is he involved in all of this?â
My molars grind together. I hate hearing her say his name. I hate that, even if I had snapped his neck that night and tossed him to the curb like trash, nothing could erase the history he has with Luna.
âBenjy hurt you.â
âOkay,â she says slowly. âWhat does that have to do with you? Why do you have his file in your desk?â
âI told you when we walked out of that restaurant together that I would keep you safe.â
âBut Benjy happened years ago. Way before you and I ever met. He doesnâtâ ââ
I curl a finger under her chin and lift her eyes to me. âHe hurt you. You donât deserve that. So I took care of it.â
Her brow furrows as she begins to understand. âHow⦠how did you take care of it?â
I donât answer, but I can see Luna putting the pieces together. She looks at my left eye. The bruise is long gone now, but Luna remembers.
âThat night you came home with a black eye⦠that wasâ¦â
âA lucky shot,â I growl. âHe didnât get another one.â
Her blue eyes widen as what Iâm saying starts to make sense. Then slowly, Luna grabs my wrist. She twines her fingers through mine as she drops to her knees in front of me.
Her hair curls over her shoulders in golden, sleepy waves. She gathers them in one hand and pushes all of her hair behind her back.
âWhat are you doing?â My cock stiffens as she slides her other hand up my thigh.
âI already told you.â
Before she reaches my zipper, I yank her back up to her feet.
She blinks in surprise. âWhatâs wrong?â
âWhatâs wrong is that, if I come, I donât want to be in your mouth.â I push her back on my desk and her legs wrap around my waist. âIâm going to be buried deep inside of you.â
