Chapter 8: Shifting Sands
i belong to you
The charity event was just days away, and the school was buzzing with excitement. Decorations were being finalized, and rehearsal schedules were packed. Taeko was carefully orchestrating moments for Taehyung and Jungkook to be alone, ensuring Soojin couldnât disrupt the growing bond between them.

Morning â Auditorium Setup
Jungkook stood at the entrance of the auditorium, reviewing the finalized floor plan on his tablet. The hum of activity around him didnât faze him, but the sound of Taehyungâs voice calling out commands made him glance up.
âPut the floral arrangements on the left! No, not there! Ugh, why is no one listening to me?â Taehyung huffed, hands on his hips.
Jungkook walked over, his calm demeanor contrasting with Taehyungâs frustration. âYouâre yelling too much. No one can focus.â
Taehyung spun around, glaring. âOh, great. Another critic. If youâre so good at this, why donât you take over?â
Jungkook smirked faintly. âI donât need to. Youâre already doing fine.â
Taehyung blinked, his irritation faltering. âWait, was that⦠a compliment?â
Jungkook shrugged. âDonât let it go to your head.â
Taehyung couldnât help but smile. âWow, Jeon Jungkook, giving compliments. Whatâs next? You actually smiling?â
Jungkook rolled his eyes, but a hint of amusement flickered in his expression.

Afternoon â Soojinâs Interruption
During a break, Taehyung was reviewing the eventâs schedule when Soojin approached him.
âTaehyung,â she said sweetly, sitting next to him without invitation.
Taehyung tensed but didnât look up. âCan I help you?â
âI was just thinking,â Soojin began, âyou and Jungkook seem to be spending a lot of time together. Are you two⦠close?â
Taehyung finally looked at her, his gaze sharp. âWhy does it matter?â
Soojin tilted her head, her smile not reaching her eyes. âI just find it fascinating. Jungkook doesnât usually let people in, but he seems different around you.â
Taehyung raised an eyebrow. âAnd what are you trying to say?â
Before Soojin could answer, Jungkook appeared, his presence commanding.
âSoojin,â he said coldly, âdonât you have something better to do?â
Soojin looked up at him, feigning innocence. âI was just making conversation.â
âWell, youâre interrupting,â Jungkook said firmly.
Taehyung hid a smirk as Soojin stood up, clearly flustered. âFine. Iâll see you both later,â she said, walking away.
Once she was gone, Jungkook turned to Taehyung. âYou okay?â
Taehyung chuckled. âDid you just defend me?â
Jungkook looked away, embarrassed. âDonât read into it.â
âI think I will,â Taehyung teased, his smile softening.

Evening â A Quiet Moment
After the long day, Jungkook and Taehyung found themselves sitting in the empty auditorium. The decorations sparkled under the dim lights, creating an almost magical atmosphere.
âYou were amazing today,â Taehyung said, breaking the silence.
Jungkook glanced at him, surprised. âWhat do you mean?â
âTaking charge, keeping everyone on trackâitâs impressive,â Taehyung said earnestly.
Jungkookâs expression softened. âIâm just doing what needs to be done.â
âYou always say that,â Taehyung said, leaning back in his chair. âBut thereâs more to you than just responsibility, isnât there?â
Jungkook didnât reply immediately, his gaze fixed on the stage. âMaybe. I just⦠donât show it often.â
Taehyung turned to him, his voice gentle. âYou can, you know. With me.â
Their eyes met, and for a moment, the air between them felt charged. Jungkook looked away first, his cheeks faintly tinged with color.
âYouâre annoying,â he muttered.
Taehyung laughed, the sound warm and genuine. âAnd youâre impossible. But maybe thatâs why we work so well together.â

Taekoâs Journal â Late Night
Taeko grinned as he wrote in his journal, feeling accomplished.
âStep four: Make Jungkook notice Taehyungâs worth. Check.â
He leaned back, a satisfied smirk on his face. âNow, letâs see if I can push them closer tomorrow.â
