After sending Madam Liu away, Lu Sheng passed the silver taels to Lu Ran.
âGrandma gave these, but I still have a dozen silver taels. Brother, if you have nothing to do, go back to school and study.â
âWhere did you get the money from?â Lu Ran frowned.
Madam Liu managed the Lu Familyâs finances, and she had even embezzled Madam Heâs dowry, only leaving a jade bracelet for Lu Sheng.
Back when her grandfather was still alive, a rich man had given the jade bracelet to him as a gift of gratitude for saving his life.
Lu Sheng said, âFather gave them to me before he left.â
Lu Ran mockingly scoffed. âHe still has some conscience left.â
âSo, will you go back to school and study?â Lu Sheng asked.
âIâll wait till next year. Thereâs no one here now, and we canât just neglect the farmlands.â
As Lu Ran spoke, he moved the things at the side to the kitchen.
âI can manage the farmlands!â
Lu Sheng followed him in and said, âBrother, donât worry. Iâll take good care of them.â
She was amazing at farming.
When she used to live in the mountains, she had farmed a few acres of land there by herself.
Of course, she had secretly looked for help when her Master was not around.
That help was the black clouds.
âYou?â
Lu Ran chuckled. âYou can take care of the farmlands?â
Although Lu Sheng regularly did household chores, she rarely farmed.
Even though she would help the family during harvesting, she was busy with the chores at home for the rest of the time.
âOf course!â Lu Sheng said, âBrother, just go and study. I can do it myself!â
It was Madam He and the ownerâs final wish that Lu Ran turn over a new leaf and study. She had to fulfill it for them.
Looking at her serious face, Lu Ran became a bit doubtful. âAre you sure?ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âDefinitely!â Lu Sheng smiled. âOur farmlands arenât that big. I can manage them.â
âAlright.â
Since his sister was so eager for him to go back to study, he could not just brush off her goodwill.
He could come back to help out during his break.
âIs the money enough to pay for the school fees?â
Lu Sheng felt a bit troubled.
As she could not earn money yet, she did not know if the amount she had now was enough.
âItâs enough.â Lu Ran smiled and only took the six silver taels which Madam Lian had passed to them. âKeep the rest for yourself.â
âAre you sure?â Lu Sheng asked in an uncertain voice.
âItâs more than enough!â Lu Ran laughed.
She nodded. âOkay, then. If itâs not enough, tell me. Donât try to be tough.â
As she looked up, she realized that the sun was already setting.
Lu Ran started busying himself in the kitchen, while Lu Sheng and the two younger siblings plucked the vegetables in the courtyard.
Suddenly, someone flung open the door of the courtyard. A few muscular and skinny teenagers walked in.
The teenager leading the pack had a blade of grass hanging from his mouth, and he looked like a hoodlum.
âLu Ran! Is Lu Ran here?â
Lu Sheng lifted her head and indifferently stared at them.
âOh?â
Sun Huâs eyes brightened. âWhere did this beauty come from? Youâre prettier than Lu Ning.â
When Lu Ran heard the commotion, he came out. His expression changed after hearing Sun Huâs words.
He strode forward and blocked Lu Sheng and the rest. With an icy-cold voice, he asked, âSun Hu, why did you come here?â
Someone like Sun Hu was not even worthy of his sisterâs toe.
âThis must be Lu Sheng.â Sun Hu stroked his chin, longingly gazed at Lu Sheng, and said, âI heard that a scholar broke off his engagement with her, and the county magistrate also doesnât want to marry her.â
âBrother Ran, since your sisterâs reputation is already ruined, why donât you give her to Brother Sun? Perhaps, he would be happy and reward you with some silver taels.â
Someone standing at the side frivolously said.
âWhat did you say?â
Lu Ranâs expression darkened, and he immediately kicked the teenager who had said so, sending him tumbling onto the ground.
