My Brothers Possessive Best Friend
BLAKES POV
Going to the trunk of the car I grabbed my bag and chucked Loganâs at him. In my back pocket I could feel my phone vibrating. Recognizing the number I answered immediately.
âGrandma?â
âBlake! Listen to me and listen to me carefully okay. There is a woman in your house. She is not safe and will have a gun on her and probably a few knifes. What I need you to do is act as normal as possible. Donât raise any suspicion. And stay together! She knows that Logan is with you. Iâm on my way sweetie, stay safe!â
She hung up stay after that. I stood frozen on the spot for a second before everything sunk in. Fuck Lacey!
âWhatâs up Bro?â Quickly telling him the brief version of what Grandma just told me. His stance went rigid, probably just like mine. We walked in to the house, trying to keep as calm as possible. I could see Lacey standing in the doorway to the kitchen. She didnât look like herself.
âLacey?â She didnât look my way so I ran over to and shook her. She still didnât look at me.
âDonât worry about her dear. Just a little shaken up thatâs all.â The lady stood there with the picture that Grandma took of me and Lacey when we were at the beach years ago.
âAnd you would be?â
âI would be your Mother dear.â
âThatâs bullshit!â
âDarling, use language of that sort with me again I will see to it that you get consequences.â She is not safe and will have a gun on her and probably a few knifes.
âWell youâll have to understand when my sister is in this state and youâre trying to say that youâre my Mother when you clearly are not.â
âHow can you be so sure?â I felt Lacey step behind me and wrap her arms around me waist. Damn Lacey I know youâre going to be pissed and Iâm so sorry.
âBecause the last time I saw my Father a year ago he gave me a photo of her.â There was a silence in the room. Laceyâs hold on the back of my shirt loosened and she went to stand next to Logan who wrapped his arms around her immediately. Looking back at the women I noticed that her whole demeanour had changed. I took a step closer to Logan and Lacey.
âJesus Christ what made he give you a picture of that old hag? Father son heart to heart? Something to cry at whilst you sleep at night?â She laughed and threw the photo unexpectedly at the wall behind me. Making me duck to hit the flying glass. âHow fucking pitifully.â
âLet him take her away.â I said instantly, pointing at Logan and Lacey.
âNo! She stays and so does her boyfriend.â From behind me I heard Lacey gasp. Really? She really think that I didnât notice?
âFine. What do you want?â
âI want the revenge that Iâve been waiting for the past 20 years. And you and your sister are my way of getting it.â She began to walk around the Island, dragging her finger along the counter top.
âRevenge for what exactly?â Just keep her talking until Grandma gets here. Dear god I hope sheâs called the cops.
âNow now now, that would reveal the story to soon. And we donât want that do we?â
âYou tell me youâre the one who broke into my house and started throwing shit.â
âWhat did I tell you about your language!?â Her fingers twitched towards the inside of her jacket. To her gun no doubt. I could feel my heart rate picking up.
âOkay okay heâs sorry.â Logan piped up from the corner. âWhat are you going to do?â
âAw, so the boyfriend does have a voice. And in answer to your question darling, everything that she did to me, just ten times worse.â
âWhat who did to you?â Lacey let go of Logan and stood next to me. Logan was straight behind her and stood on the other side of her.
âYour Mother dear. Your birth mother. The one that gave birth to you and ran out of fear because she knew that we would come looking for her, and for you two. You belong in the family. But she thought she was better than the rest of us. She thought she was better than me! She took everything away from me. So Iâm going to take the one thing away from her that she cares about. Well the two things that she cares about.â
âThatâs not happening Jackie.â Grandma! âAnd I should warn you that he is on his way.â
âLet him! He can make this all the more entertaining.â She smirked and advanced towards the fridge, helping herself to a bottle of water before sitting back at the island, facing all of us. Grandma stood in front of all of us in a protective stance. It was only then that I noticed the revolver poking out of the back of her jeans.
My Grandmaâs packing heat!
âWhoâs coming?â Lacey asked. She had fully come out of her shocked state and to be honest, she looked pissed.
âYour Dad Lacey.â Grandma didnât take her eyes off of the wom- Jackie, and stayed in her protective stance. And almost on cue the door bust open and my Dad come through. He hadnât changed much over the last year. His black hair was slightly longer and I noticed a small scar, almost an inch and half long, going through his eyebrow.
He gently grabbed Grandmaâs arm and pulled her back so that she was in line with the three of us. âMum, please.â She nodded compliantly.
âJackie Iâm going to say this once and once only. For your own sake stay away from my kids. You should feel lucky that sheâs stayed away from you for this long but I can assure you that her patience is running on thin ice Jackie. You know what sheâll do, you grew up with her, and youâre her sister.â
âNo!â She screamed, reaching into her jacket and pulling the gun out, slamming it on the table holding the butt. âI am not nor was I ever her sister! I am not related to that ... to that scum! Derek she ruined my life! I want to and will end her!â
âLeave Lacey and Blake out of this Jackie! It has nothing to do with them!â
âIt has everything to do with them! She was the favourite! She was always the golden girl. Daddyâs little princess and Mummyâs little star. Even Steven paid more attention to her than he ever did to me! For my whole life they pushed me out while they went out of their way to make the poor little adopted girl feel welcome. Feel like she was a part of the family. And then she has the mordacity to then turn my own children on me! No one loves me! No one cares!â Her eyes watered up as her voice cracked.
âShe didnât turn them on you. You did that by yourself. You beat your own children. And when you was too drunk to do it yourself you made them do it to each other! You made them believe that they were nothing more than a piece of meat for you to take your frustrations out on! All she did was made them see sense. She made them feel like a human being!â
âNo! She took them away from me. So Iâm going to take hers away from her and donât think that you can stop me. I have people helping me.â She got up smirking to herself. âAnd theyâre willing to go to any lengths...just as I am.â She began walking past all of us, heading for the door. âDonât think you can stop me Derek. Whatâs coming will happen and there is no stopping it. And you can tell your wife to fuck off!â And then she was gone.
Everyone was silent and staring at Jackieâs retreating form as the door closed. Before I had time to think I was enclosed in my Fatherâs arms along with Lacey. We were stuck like this for a moment before Lacey shoved her way out of the embrace. âNo! What the fuck was that!?â
âLacey Iâm sor-â
âNo! No Dad! I havenât seen you for nearly 2 years straight and I found out you made a special visit to Blake! And gave a picture of Mom!â
âNone of that was planned. I know how you feel baby girl and Iâm sorry. But you donât know the whole story.â
âOh so thereâs a story! Oh please enlighten me!â I tightened my hold on Lacey.
âThat was Jackie your auntie. Your Mother was adopted by a couple called Gerald and Sophia. They already had two children; Jackie and Steven. When your mother was 16 Gerald was arrested. Jackie had accused him of...abusing her, in more ways than one. The accusations turned out to be all lies but after that Jackie, she, she turned into something that wasnât healthy. She started hanging around with the wrong group of people. Bad people. She had them follow your Mother, everywhere she went, and they would torment her, beat her to stupidity. She never did anything in retaliation. I was working at the hospital when I met her. She was near to death. I cared for here until the day that the casts came off. From then everything that happened between me and your Mother, just, well, happened. And before I knew it I was holding you both in my arms. When Jackie heard about you two, thatâs when she started to get really nasty. It was after the whole mess with her children, which you already know about. She lit fire to our house, with you two and your Mother still inside. She made it out with both of you just in time before the whole place went down. Lacey, that scar you have on your right leg, Jackie did that with a knife. Blake, the headaches you get, she dropped you down three flights of stairs, head first, when you were 1 years old. Itâs a miracle that youâre still alive. Jackie was, is so filled with hatred that she is not stable. We called the cops, we did the law route of trying to get rid of her, but there wasnât sufficient evidence. How, Iâll never know, but she kept on and on. Your Mother knew that what she really wanted was to see her suffer. So she did what she thought was right, she separated herself from the both of you. Thatâs why you havenât had a Mother all this time. Itâs because she was trying to protect you. But Jackie has found you again somehow. We need to keep you safe, and you to Logan.â
I stood drilled onto the spot hanging onto Lacey. For all this time I believed that my Mother was simply someone who couldnât give a damn about the two of us. All my Life I had thought that my Father was a man filled with grieve over a love that was returned by snapping him in two. Leaving him with children that he didnât want. Making him a hollow man.
Now all of sudden I have a loving and caring Mother and Father and a crazed, bitch ass of an auntie.
âYou do realise how fucked up this sounds right?â Lacey ran a stressed hand through her hair. âHow am I supposed to believe a word that comes out of your mouth!?â Logan placed a warming hand on the small of her back. He obviously doesnât care about my presence anymore.
âLacey I know that I havenât been in your life as much as I should but donât think for one second that I havenât made sure that you were safe. It needed to be like this. The more cut off we were the better. She wouldnât have made the connection and found you. But a couple months ago, when I went to visit your grandma to give her some money, to help with, well you know. Jackie must have followed me.â
âThat doesnât answer my question.â She said sternly.
âCome.â He said, not waiting for a response and just walking straight to the door.
âWeâre not going anywhere with you!â
He stopped in his tracks.
"I'm keeping my children safe."
