My Brothers Possessive Best Friend
Carly reminded me a little bit of that chick from that vampire movie that I was forced to go watch with some girl when Blake wasnât able to make it to his date on time. You know, the pixie looking thing. She stood in front of me, Blake and Logan, listing off all of the food items that they had in the cupboards.
âAnd then you have all the meats. Oh! And thereâs fresh OJ in the fridge as well if any of you want any.â She smiled at the three of us as we stood in our little line, me smack band in the middle of it. Sam, Carlyâs brother, got up from the table when heâd finished his food and walked over to us.
âItâs nice to meet finally. Heard a great deal about you both.â He smiled politely and shook all three of our hands. It was only then that I noticed that Logan stood slightly behind me. Ever since weâd got home heâd hardly said a word. Understandable, but still. Looking up at him he gave a me a wide, cheeky grin, making me laugh lightly.
âQuick question are you two like, you know, a thing?â Turning to Carly Logan answered before I had chance to take another breath.
âYes, why do you ask?â She blushed and pushed her arms behind her back, looking down at the floor.
âOh, just that you act really cute around each other.â Logan laughed lightly, agreeing with her. This seemed to make Carly feel a little more comfortable as she dropped her awkward stare contest with the floor and looked up to us smiling.
âCarly!â A light brunet, almost like caramel, hair coloured girl came running around the corner, making me turn in her direction. âCarly!â She whipped her head back and forth looking in all directions. She was almost my height and definitely had curves that would make a man look twice when she was walking down a street.
âThatâs Amelia.â Carly laughed. âNo relation, just a friend.â Amelia went running into the back yard screaming out for Carly some more.
âErm, maybe you should go see what she wants?â Blake said, not taking his eyes off of Ameliaâs retrieving body. Uh oh, like I havenât seen that look before.
âIf itâs urgent she would be screaming for Uncle Derek or Grandpa.â
âNot to sound harsh.â Logan said. âBut if sheâs no relation...what she doing with you lot?â Carlyâs strong stance directly in front of us faltered for a moment before she controlled herself and answered.
âWell, letâs just say not everyone has a great upbringing.â Â There was an awkward silence for a moment but it was broken by Amelia busting through the other set of kitchen doors.
âWoman! I call, you answer, marco, pollo, I thought we had this covered!â She ran over to Carly and grabbed her by the elbows, eyes wide with excitement. âYouâll never guess what I found out.â
âWhat?â Carly giggled.
âThe STD infested bitch cheated on him! Hah! Karma, one, fucker face, zero.â She started doing a little dance before she looked up at us, her attention zoning straight away on Blake.
âOh, er, hey. You must be Derekâs and Rubyâs kids...and the friend.â She smiled with her cheeks getting redder and redder by the second. Obviously clearly embarrassed by what weâd just witness here do. âLogan right?â He nodded and smiled.
âLacey?â I repeated Loganâs actions.
âAnd Blake.â Now this, this she almost whispered. I was surprised he even heard her. But by the way they were holding eye contact Iâd say that he wasnât even paying attention. âItâs nice to meet you all.â She said a little louder but her eyes never faltering from Blakeâs direction. Suddenly she shook her head, as if there was something in her hair.
âS-sorry, Iâve, erm, yeah Iâve got to go.â She rushed out before heading back the way she had entered. Me, Logan, and Carly looked up at Blake as he was again, watching the door that Amelia had just walked through.
âThat was interesting.â He muttered.

Weâd been in this place for easily over two hours now. Iâd be lying if I said that I wasnât staring at the door every two minutes wanting her, Ruby, my Mother, to walk through. For the last 18 years Iâd wondered what she looked like and by the end of today I was going to find out. I was going to have a mother by the end of the day. It felt like I was a five year old kid waking up on Christmas morning. But the memory of something that Blake has said earlier today dampen my spirits slightly.
The three of us sat at the table, alone. Carly had left to give us some room and go find Amelia and everyone seemed to be doing their own thing.
âYouâve had a picture of her for over a year and you never bothered to show it to me?â Blake sighed immediately and hung his head.
âI didnât think that it would have been a good idea.â
âAnd whyâs that?â He lifted his head and looked at me.
âBecause I didnât want to hurt you Lacey. Yeah I had the picture, but thatâs it. Iâve looked at that photo a thousand times and felt to laugh, cry, rip it up, and burn it, all at once. I didnât know what to do other then, just, well, look. I didnât want you being all confused and bringing up old feelings.â I huffed in annoyance. I wanted to be angry but the douche was only trying to protect me.
âWell?â
âWell what?â
âDo we look like her?â He gave me a half smile.
âYou more so then me. You have the same lip and eye shape as her. We both have her hair colour. You have the same smile as her and the same little glint in your eye when youâre happy.â I couldnât help the little chuckle that left my mouth. âAnd to be honest, she looks like a complete badass.â All three of us laughed.
My muma the badass.

Carlyâs POV
âWhat was that!?â I couldnât stop the smug grin that I knew was slowly appearing on my face. Amelia was my best friend and has been since we were in kindergarten. Letâs just say that we bonded over familiar experiences...
Sheâd been hurt so many times and especially recently with Simon. The bastard! After what he done to her heâs lucky Iâm not dashing his head through a window and then grabbing hold of his hair to drag his face back through the shards!
Cool Carly, itâs all cool.
Breathing in and out I jumped on the bed next to Amelia. It would take a blind blithering idiot not to see how beautiful she was.
âWhat was what exactly?â She was averting eye contact with me. I could read this girl like a book and she knew it.
âThat whole deal with Rubyâs kid. You know, tall, dark and handsome thing.â I winked and she blushed, again.
âNo idea what youâre on about, I was just saying hi.â She started to pick at her blue nail varnish out of nervous habit.
âAnd making the eye.â I uttered.
âNo I was not!â She gasped.
âAmelia.â I laughed. âYou are the worldâs worst liar and what makes it worse is that you know this and yet you still attempt to anyway.â She playfully shoved me in my side, making me fall back on to the bed. She soon followed suit and we were laying side my side staring up at the ceiling.
âOkay.â She said after a while. âSo I may have, possibly, maybe, been giving him the eye, just a tiny tad.â
âOkay you really need to brush up on your measurements if that is your version of just a tiny tad.â She jabbed me in my side as I teased her.
âSeriously! I need to stop throwing myself at the first guy I see and like.â
âAmelia youâre making yourself sound like someone youâre not. Youâre still a virgin for Christ sake.â She made several hushing noises whilst whipping her head about to make sure nobody was about.
âYes and I donât want the whole family to know alright.â I held up hands up in defence.
âHey, Iâm not judging.â She flopped back on to the bed and groaned in frustration. âSo you going to do anything about it?â
âAbout what?â
âYour little love crush on Blake.â
âJust shut up Carly.â

Derekâs POV
I was sitting in my office that I shared with my wife, Ruby, staring down at the last photo that was taken as a family.
Had we done the right thing?
All we wanted to do was protect them from Jackie and her lunatic, steroid hooked back up boys. Thatâs all a parent wants for their kid. For them to be safe and happy. Weâd gone through every possible possibility, and this seemed like the best one. Sure, it hurt like mad, it hurt both me and Ruby like mad, but at the end of the day, we just wanted our babies to be safe.
Iâd noticed that they had their own little unit, the three of them. Theyâd had each other to rely on for the past 18 years. I was well aware of Loganâs past. Thatâs why we so willingly let him into their lives. It would have taken a monster to send him back there.
I sighed, bringing the photo back in to focus again. Will they ever forgive us?
Suddenly I felt a hand curl around my shoulder and the soft kiss of my beautiful wife on my cheek. âDarling, youâll make yourself sick with worry. Theyâre here now, theyâre safe.â I smiled up at her. Sheâs shrunken out of her leather Jacket and this put all of her tattoos on show. Grabbing her wrist I twisted it lightly so that I could see the one that sheâd gotten in favour of me and kissed it.
âYouâre right, you should be the one worrying more than me.â She placed her hand on my cheek, pushing me into her direction. She looked me dead in the eyes and smiled. Jesus, she was so beautiful. Even after all this time and she still took my breath away.
âDerek.â She paused and gently pressed her lips to mine. âOur babies are home.â
