My Brothers Possessive Best Friend 20

My Brothers Possessive Best Friend

A shiver came over my body. I knew she was here. I just knew it. Looking over at Blake I could see that his attention was on Amelia as she stood at the kitchen counter with Carly having a drink. Logan had left my side to go play basketball with Steven. I could hear them from here. Feeling the couch dip beside me I looked over and saw Sam, Carly’s brother, sitting beside me with a grin on his face.

“She’s pretty cool you know.”

“What?”

“Ruby. You look like her, a lot.” He dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out some hubba bubba. “And sort of act like her.” He put his hand that held the gum in front of my face. “Gum?”

“No you’re good thanks.” He smiled and sat there next to me silent. Gerald and Sophia, my mother’s adopted parents walked towards Blake and sat down either side of him. I had to bite my lip at his expression. He wasn’t one for close proximity unless he initiated it.

“Lacey.” I jumped at the sound of my dad’s voice. I hadn’t heard the door open. “Blake.” Blake walked over to me and offered his hand to haul my ass off the couch. We both followed him wordless. We knew exactly where he was taking us.

She stood facing the fire. All I could see was the long curly black hair that cascaded down her back. Dad stood beside us. “Go to her.” He whispered softly.

Blake took my hand and squeezed it tightly. Walking to the fire her head snapped into our direction before we’d even got our feet off the rug.

She looked at us both with a small sweet smile on her face. “My babies.” She whispered. Blake let go of my hand and ran to her. Wrapping his arms around her and looking like he was suffocating her. She let go of him and that’s when I got a good look at her. She was a bit taller than me, covered in tattoos, and dressed in black.

“Lacey.” She said. “I’m sorry.” I didn’t know I was crying till she brought her hand to my face and wiped my wet cheeks. “I’m so sorry baby.” She kissed the top of my head and wrapped her arms around me. “I’m never leaving you ever again.” I felt Blake’s arms around me and soon I was in the middle of a hug with my mother, dad and Blake. I laughed at the thought. And then my Mother stared laughing. And then Blake and dad followed suit.

What felt like hours the four of us sat there talking about whatever came up. What broke our conversation was Grandma bursting through the door with earphones in her ear and screaming the lyrics to the song she was listening to. I had tears coming out of my eyes when Logan had came in to the room and the pair of them started doing the running man together.

“Oh yeah, hit it baby cakes.” My grandma near enough shouted. Logan laughed and made his way over to me. Grandma took her earphones out and smiled at dad. “Ello sweetheart.” She winked at him and squeezed his cheeks.

“Mom stop that hurts.”

“Well it hurt ten times worse when I squeezed you out so I’m squeezing back for the rest of your life.”

“MOM!”

“Burn!” Ruby started laughing. When everyone had calmed down Ruby looked at both of us.

“I’m not going to lie to you. Jackie has people working with her, you know this don’t you?”

We both nodded.

“And you know that I’m adopted. That Sophia and Gerald aren’t my real parents.”

We both nodded again.

“Well the people working with Jackie are.”

I couldn’t help the small gasp that escaped my lips.

“Why would they do this?”

“Well, long story short, all three of them are not well. And they have connections that put all of us at danger. That’s why we stick together. We don’t want to hurt them we want to put them somewhere where they aren’t going to hurt anyone.  But if they take the first swing then we’re not backing down.”

Logan squeezed my hand before speaking. “So what’s the plan then?”
