Chapter 24: What Now

While we were sitting in the grassy area I noticed that in the distance there was a mini concert going on. Some local bands were playing.

"Ash can we go check it out?" I said with some excitement. I love music.

"Yeah why not?" He said getting up and then helping me up.

We walked to the concert area with his arm around my shoulders and my arm around his waist. A lot of teenagers were there standing up and dancing to the bands music. They were actually really good. They also had food trucks and little stands you could buy things at. It was like a mini street fair. We walked getting lemonade to sip on and looked at what some of the stands were selling. Finishing our drinks I noticed a new band had come on stage and they were playing covers.

"Ohhh Ash can we please go dance?"

"This isn't the type of music I even like to dance to." He said in a 'are you serious' tone.

"Please, pretty please with a cherry on top?" I said with pouting my lip.

"Ugh fine, only for you but if anyone from school sees this you're in trouble!" I laughed at that and pulled him to where everyone was dancing. The band starting playing 'What Now' by Rihanna and everyone started getting excited. Yes it's kind of a slow song but has such a cool beat. Everyone was waving their hands in the air and looking around at all the lights, the people, the stars this is the kind of stuff I live for.

Everyone was singing along smiling and having a great time. I could see Ash staring at me every once in a awhile but I acted like I didn't notice. He was smiling as I sang to the song with everyone else.

We noticed it was getting a little late and we have school in the morning. Ash drove us back to his house and as soon as we entered his room we decided to go straight to bed. I fell asleep with Ash running his fingers through my hair.

It is finally getting cold in California meaning all the great holidays are coming up like Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I hope it doesn't go by to fast because I'm not ready for the school year to end. I'm dreading moving to New York.

"You ready?" Ash came into the room as I finished putting on lip gloss.

"Yeah, lets go." We hopped into Ash's truck getting Starbucks before school since I was really wanting it this morning.

I played some calming music for the car ride. Even though I'm super tired in the morning I can never it enough of the way the morning sun looks. I love that when its super chilly outside the sun can still give you a little warmth and it's so pretty. I also like the smell outside in the morning cold for some strange reason.

When we got to the Starbucks drive thru I order a white mocha frappuccino and Ash order a ice coffee. Yes getting cold drinks in the cold is not a good idea but its so good I can't help it. I'll be more cold than I already am by first period.

Getting to school it almost felt like we got there late since so many people were here as well. Usually I come super early the school is almost empty. Must be the nerd in me. Ash opened the car door for me and we both walked into the school. I guess since we got here kind of late more people are knowing of our relationship status and couldn't keep their eyes off of us as Ash walked me to my first class. We were right on time because the bell rung a second after and he kissed me on the check before he walked to class himself.

Ash's P.O.V

After walking Adri to class I went in the direction of my classroom but as soon as the bell rung and she went inside her class I quickly changed directions and headed towards the parking lot to meet up with my brothers. I don't want Adri to know I'm skipping class to smoke in fact I don't want her knowing I still smoke at all. I want to give her the best of me 24/7. If she found out I was skipping to just smoke with my brothers she'd be very disappointed.

I wish I could stop. I wish It wasn't hard for me to stop. I wish I didn't have to skip class to do it but it's not like I can do it at home when she's always with me.

"Hey man." Jared said as we did a small hand shake. I did the same with the rest of my brothers.

"Dude glad you came out, you haven't hung with us since you've gotten your little girlfriend." Hayden said,

"Yeah sorry about that guys. I've been caught up a little bit. I'm just trying to spend as much time with her as I can before she has to move."  I said as I lit up a cigarette.

"Yeah, we can tell she means a lot to you." I shrugged. I couldn't let my brothers know my heart jumped out of my chest every time I saw her.

"So Jared, what about you and Kylie" Chad asked.

"Oh that, it was a hit it and quit it type of thing." We all laughed and he gave Chad a fist pump.

"Yeah she came up to me and wanted me to tell Adri she was sorry but no way in hell am I doing that. Shit like that is unforgivable. Then Adri saw us talking but I tried to play it off cause I'm not saying a word, I hope the little bitch doesn't come up to me again." I explained to the guys.

"Yeah she low key crazy." Jared agreed.

"Dude can we go roll a blunt?" Brock mentioned.

"Hell yeah lets do it." Blake said and we all went to go sit down by our usual spot. We threw our cigarettes onto the pavement as we rolled the blunt.

"High before school is the best, you get to ignore all the bullshit these teacher speak." I chimed in. We were all passing it around getting pretty high. It's the best feeling in the world laughing at the smallest things that happen.

"GENTLEMEN!" Shit. It's the principal. I dropped the blunt and smashed it with my foot as fast as I could but it was useless as he saw us all smoking before he even said "gentlemen". There was no point in running when he knew exactly who we were.

He escorted us all to his office and made us sit down while he lectured us on skipping class and smoking on school property. I wasn't surprised when he gave us all after school detention which annoyed the crap out of me. The only thing I had to do now was to keep Adri from finding out. I don't know how she'd react since she has already assumed I stopped with all this bullshit.  I wanted to. I wanted to stop for her. It's just so hard.

Adrianna's P.O.V

P.E finally came around and once I was changed into the P.E shorts and shirt I quickly ran to Ash and gave him a huge hug.

"Hey there." I smiled.

"Hey there cutie." He said as he gave me a quick peck holding my chin. Every time his skin touched mine I always got the goosebumps.

"Why do you smell like smoke..?" It was super strong not just cigarette smoke but weed. I knew right away why he smelled like that.

"I do? Well I saw my brothers for a bit before I came to P.E and you know they smoke so that's probably why." He tried to explain but I knew he was lying to me.

"Ash you're lying."

"No I'm not, I didn't smoke." He said nervously. I decided to let it go, for now.

"Alright, guys time to run the mile." The P.E teacher announced. I began running without Ash so I could think to myself,

I mean if he was smoking should I be mad? Or should I let him do what he wants. Am I being over dramatic?

I didn't want him to feel like I was controlling him I just don't want him in a habit that is dangerous for his lungs. The day ended and I was on my way to Ash's truck when I noticed Ash wasn't there yet. Where the heck was he? So I climbed on the tailgate and sat on top of it waiting for him.

To Babe: Where are you?

I waited a good five minutes and still no text back. I was actually getting worried.

To Babe: I'm getting worried.

I decided to walk back in the school and when I passed the library door something caught my eye. Through the library door window Ash and his brothers were sitting there looking bored pretending to read books.

"What the heck." I said to myself. I opened the door and all of there heads turned towards me. Ash just put his head down in a way that looked like he was ashamed of himself. Why was he in detention in the first place. I rolled my eyes and decided I'd just walk home. Walking out the school doors I accidentally bumped into someone and that someone was Kylie. She looked at me with sorry eyes but I just ignored her and started to walk to Ash's.

I walked through the door very annoyed and through down my backpack.

"Wow there, what happened with you?" Talia, Ash's mom spoke to me. I didn't realize she'd be in the kitchen.

"Nothing, sorry." I didn't want to snitch on Ash and his brothers that would probably cause a lot of problems.

"Just had a weird day, thats all." I continued.

"Oh okay then, Where's the guys?"

"Uh I think they went to go get food or something. I wasn't hungry and I'm pretty tired so I came here." I felt bad lying to Talia but I didn't want to be the one to tell her that her sons are way different at school than they are at home.

"Oh alright well if you get hungry let me know and I'll be happy to make you something."

"Okay sounds good, thank you." I said as I picked up my backpack and walked upstairs to Ash's room.  I changed into an over sized sweater and shorts and got into his bed. I'm not going to bring it up when he gets home. I'm not even going to ask why he got detention because I have a pretty good idea why.

Ash's P.O.V

I screwed up. I realize that now, I could tell when Adri saw me in detention. I just need to be honest with her. When we finally finished detention we got home and my mom seemed pretty happy telling us about her day.

"So what did you boys go eat?" Eat? What is she talking about? Wait that means Adri covered for us.

"Eat? We di-" Brock started to say but I cut him off.

"We went to in-n-out" I quickly stumbled to say.

"That sounds good and you didn't think to bring anything home for your own mother?" She said as she pretended to be hurt.

"Sorry mom, next time I promise." I said as I walked upstairs expecting for Adri to be in front of my face yelling about why I was in detention. To my surprise she was fast asleep snuggled in all the blankets. I let her sleep and it was getting pretty late so I was getting ready for bed by this time.

When I laid down and turned off the lights Adri turned her body and wrapped her arms around my chest. It took me by surprise I thought she'd be mad at me but I chose not to say anything and just cuddle her back.

It was about 10pm when I heard the doorbell ring. My mom came into my room with a worried look on her face.

"Adrianna's dad is here." My heart dropped.

I could tell Adri heard that loud and clear because she shot up from the bed in a panic.

"What now." Is all she said.
