Chapter 28
Through the Storm
Nia sat at a dimly lit table in the back of a local lounge, the soft hum of conversation in the background as she took another slow sip of her drink. She wasn't alone this time. Across from her, a tall figure in a black hoodie and baseball cap sat, his face partially obscured by the shadows, his eyes cold and calculating.
"What's the move?" Nia asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes darting around the room as if she were being watched.
The man leaned in, his voice low. "You're sure about this? Von's been getting too comfortable. You need to handle this, or it's gonna get worse."
Nia smirked, fingers tracing the rim of her glass as she nodded slowly. "Yeah, I've been thinking about it. Selena's been all over the place with Von, and it's time to remind her of where she stands. She needs to learn her place."
The man's lips curled into a sinister smile. "I got a few people who owe me favors. We can make sure she gets the messageâsomething that'll get Von's attention. But it's gotta look like an accident. We don't want to put heat on ourselves."
Nia's eyes gleamed with determination, a coldness settling over her. "No accidents. Make it loud. Make it known. Let her feel it, and let Von feel it. He'll understand that he can't just bring anybody into his world and act like nothing's gonna happen."
The man's gaze flickered to Nia, his tone taking on a darker edge. "It's risky. One wrong move, and everything goes south. You ready for that?"
Nia leaned back, her fingers tapping lightly on the table as she considered it. "I've been ready. I'll handle it. Just get it done."
The man stood up slowly, his shadow stretching across the floor as he placed a card on the table. "I'll make the call. We'll be in touch." He turned, disappearing into the crowd without another word.
Nia sat there for a moment longer, a twisted smile creeping across her face. She'd been playing the game for too long to let someone like Selena come in and disrupt everything. The plan was setâsoon, Selena would understand exactly what it meant to cross someone like Von.
And when the dust settled, there would be no one left to stand in her way.
