Chapter 28: It's Impossible Between Us

Hearing those words, she had an epiphany.

Wait… Does he admire me? That explains his random introduction and flaunting.

Back in the Heavens, Goddess Jinli’s beauty and luck had brought her fame from all corners of the realm. She had seen countless admirers and fans then. Even amongst the beautiful and handsome Gods, she had a significant number of fans. She was so used to this one-sided and forceful declaration of love. In her eyes, Lu Zhengya was just one of them.

She glanced gently at Lu Zhengya, feeling somewhat speechless. She uttered in a deep voice, “That last sentence. That was your true aim, right? Everything else was just nonsense.”

Just a simple confession. Why did you need to ask your subordinate to invite me so many times?

Lu Zhenya’s head tilted at that statement.

Jinli twirled her silky hair within her fingers. “You should have said the important things earlier.”

His eyes lit up instantly as his heart pumped a little faster. “So you agree to it?”

“Agreed to what?” Confusion streaked across her eyes.

From her tone, Lu Zhengya knew that something was not right. His forehead puckered. “You don’t want to be my woman?”

Jinli’s face grimaced when she heard the bold statement, “What the heck! Why do I need to be your woman?”

Keeping his usual cool, Lu Zhengya stated the truth, “Countless women line up to get close to me. Even if I were to just give them a casual glance, that would be sufficient to send them to cloud nine.”

Her understanding of this man worsened. “Then, go find them instead!”

Time and again, Lu Zhegya had tried to get his point through Jinli’s dense mind. The constant failure had rendered him speechless.

Lu Zhengya couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief, “Bai Jinli, are you really stupid?”

Evidently, his patience had snapped.

However, Jinli had long ago lost all her will to talk with him.

With her arms fixed firmly on her waist, she glared at Lu Zhengya, “Let me ask that same question back to you. How many times have I told Mr Bai? I am not Bai Jinli. Don’t call me Bai Jinli!”

Lu Zhengya stared back blankly.

Wait, that’s the issue?

He suppressed his burning annoyance. “Don’t change the topic. We are not talking about that name.”

Jinli’s face tightened in anger, and she replied in a suppressed, tense tone. “My issue is much, much more important than your business.”

He was really dumbstruck.

Lu Zhengya’s head drooped. “You… you really refuse to be with me?”

Tilting her head, she inspected Lu Zhengya from many angles. Sincerely, she complimented sweetly, “Actually, you look very good!”

It’s just that your head seems underdeveloped.

Her unexpected compliment left Lu Zhengya in a daze. He had come to take Jinli’s everything, to make her his “little pet”.

Shouldn’t I be the one doing the appraisals? Since when do people get to judge me?

Should Jinli know of his thoughts, she would definitely think that this human thought too much.

She threw a final glimpse, and waved goodbye. “Time to go home.”

Utter disbelief crashed over Lu Zhenya with her closing gesture. “… You are rejecting me?”

Jinli affirmed, “Well, you may be handsome. But, it is impossible between us.”

“The reason being?” he insisted.

Truth be told, Jinli hadn’t considered the reasons. After all, she had never thought that a rejection needed a reason. In her long, long life, she had rejected multiple handfuls of Gods. Most, if not all of them, had left acceptingly after being turned down, only a rare few asked for the reason, and to them she may or may not have given an acceptable excuse.

Owing to Lu Zhengya’s pleasing aesthetics, she gave the question some thought before answering,

“In the past, many Gods… people attempted to woo me. I rejected all of them. You see, I’ve got to be fair to them, hence, I cannot accept you.”

In her heart, Jinli gave herself a pat on the back for her fairness to everyone.

Regardless of Gods, Spirits, Demons, Magicians or Humans, all treated as equals

Isn’t that simply logical?

Lu Zhengya was stunned. Indeed, he had considered the one-in-a-million chance that he might be rejected, but never had he thought that this would be the reason.

What a thoughtless, heartless and careless reason. Completely unacceptable!
