All of the Wang family’s money had gone to protecting Wang Yang, and her money had made up for that. That meant that she had been using the Zhu family’s money to hide the truth of Zhu Baoguo’s death. At the thought of that, Mother Zhu’s expression changed. She felt as though her whole world was spinning and she could hardly breathe. She no longer had the will to live.

She was a Zhu, while her son and husband were Wangs. Therefore, they were a true family. She was nothing more than an outsider who had given birth to a Wang. How… how interesting!

“Mom, don’t scare me. Are you feeling unwell? I’ll get the doctor here immediately!” Wang Yang had seen the change in Mother Zhu’s expression, and he hurriedly pressed the button by the bed to summon the doctors.

Li Yayan had been like a painting this whole while. She had not even dared to take a deep breath while Wang Yang was talking to Mother Zhu, much less interfere in the conversation.

She had not had many interactions with Qiao Nan, and they had not been pleasant. But her instincts told her that Qiao Nan’s words had not been to sow discord. In fact, they were probably true. Even though Wang Yang was her husband, she shivered upon thinking that Wang Yang had plotted against Zhu Baoguo so viciously in his teenage years.

Others would have felt the slightest tinge of guilt. Wang Yang should have been content with the help that Zhu Chengqi had given him all these years. Unfortunately, Wang Yang’s eventual goal was still the Zhu family’s assets. Since he had not gotten hold of it, he had insisted on going through with a lawsuit against Qiao Nan.

There was one thing Qiao Nan was right about. Wang Yang should be clear of why Zhu Chengqi had not wanted to hand over the Zhu family’s assets to him.

It was just that Wang Yang had thought that he had cleaned up after himself perfectly and that all evidence had disappeared since twenty years had passed. Therefore, he had gotten so arrogant to the point that he feared nothing.

Unfortunately, there was no way of concealing the truth.

They would need solid evidence to send Wang Yang to prison. But the Zhu family’s assets were in Zhu Chengqi’s hands, and he didn’t need any evidence to hand them over to anyone. He hadn’t even needed to let Wang Yang know of his intentions before making his decision.

If Zhu Chengqi had already known about the truth behind Zhu Baoguo’s death, Li Yayan’s questions about the will would be answered. Had she had control of those assets, she would much rather have donated all of the money to others than let the person who had killed her son take advantage of it.

“What’s wrong?” The doctor rushed over and was furious upon giving Mother Zhu a checkup. “Didn’t I tell you that the patient is old and her physiological functions are much worse than an average person’s? She can’t afford to be angered. I just told you about that just now. But why are you guys so uncooperative? Do you not want her to recover? If that’s the case, it doesn’t matter how skilled we are since you’re angering her as we attempt to treat her!”

Doctors weren’t afraid of difficult patients but uncooperative patients and their families.

Li Yayan apologized to the doctor sincerely. She would do as the doctor said. Once Mother Zhu’s condition stabilized, Li Yayan suggested, “Dear, Mom’s still angry. She probably won’t calm down for now. She won’t calm down with you around either. If you don’t mind, I can take care of Mom for the time being. You can come back and visit her when her condition is more stable. Then, you can apologize to her. You’re Mom’s biological son. I’m sure Mom won’t be foolish when it comes to choosing between her son and her nephew.”

Li Yayan had never had any doubts about that. After all, she was a mother herself. She would never hesitate in making such a decision. “I think Mom’s angry about other things as well. Go back and think through it. You can come back and visit Mom after some time.”

Otherwise, Mom might very well get ill from anger.

Because of Li Yayan’s advice, Wang Yang agreed. “Alright, take care of Mom. I’m worried about leaving our son to a nanny too. Try to convince my mom. If you have any news, remember to contact me.”

Because Mother Zhu had suddenly gotten ill, Wang Yang had been in a panic. That was why he had not read between the lines of Li Yayan’s words and had not felt that she was blaming him for Zhu Baoguo’s death too. Mother Zhu’s illness had already thrown Wang Yang into a frenzy. How was he to know that his mom would refuse to believe him even after his explanation and her knowing that he had a conflict with Qiao Nan? His mom was even insistent that he had killed Zhu Baoguo, and she had even brought the entire Wang family into the picture!

Even though whatever his mom had said was true, this was the past. He no longer felt the same way toward the Wang family. Now, his mom was the closest kin he had apart from his wife and son.

Li Yayan stroked her forehead. In the past, she had been living in the capital with Wang Yang, while her son had been in Ping Cheng with her mother-in-law. When her mother-in-law came to the capital, her son naturally tagged along. She had been troubled that she had forgotten about her son! “Yes, when Mom left the house with me, she left him in the care of someone. It’s not early anymore. Hurry and pick him up. It wasn’t easy taking care of the elderly and children at the same time. Worse still, their family was going through tumultuous times, making it even more stressful. Li Yayan couldn’t help but hope for these days to end soon. It wasn’t as though money was all that important.

Qiao Nan did not care about anything that happened in the Wang family. The only thing that remained constant was her attitude toward Wang Yang.

Qiao Nan had thought that Wang Yang would no longer be able to continue with the lawsuit after she had met him. But she had not expected to meet him again so soon.

Of course, as Li Yayan’s husband, Wang Yang had chosen to meet Qiao Nan right as she was leaving her classes. Otherwise, Wang Yang would never have gotten the chance to speak to Qiao Nan since he couldn’t enter the Zhai family’s house.

“Do you have some time to spare?” Wang Yang glanced at Qiao Nan coldly and indifferently as though she was his enemy.

Qiao Nan was no stranger to that. After all, stopping one from getting rich was akin to killing one’s parents. That explained Wang Yang’s attitude. “So what if I have no time?”
