Chapter 108
Sweet Subterfuge
Dylan immediately called Kevan. The call went through, but no one answered the phone.
In a state of panic. Dylan didnât have time to wait for Larissa, who was following behind him. He ran to the nursesâ station in a hurry.
A missing patient was a big deal in any hospital. In addition, everyone was still reeling from the recent suicide case. All the nurses had left to search for Kevan, leaving only one nurse on duty at the nurses station.
At Dylanâs request, the nurse made an announcement over the loudspeaker, âMr. Rogers, your friend is walling for you in the ward. Please return as soon as possible when you hear this announcement!
In a daze, Larissa realized the gravity of the situation.
âShould we check the surveillance lootage?â she asked Dylan.
âLetâs wait a bitâ Dylan replied without looking up as he fiddled with something on his phone.
âGo to the ward and wait for Kevan,â he added. âSo that if he comes back, someone is there waiting for him,â
Larissa followed Dylanâs instructions and went to the ward as she knew she couldnât be of much help.
The announcement was broadcasted throughout the hospital every two minutes.
As time passed, Larissa became increasingly anxious as negative thoughts filled her mind.
After nearly half an hour, Dylan returned with Kevan leaning on his shoulder. Larissa quickly went up to them, âWhere did you go? Her tone was reproachful because she was nervous and worried sick for him.
Kevan didnât look any better from when they left, in lact, he seemed even paler. There was a disturbing patch of dried blood on his right hand from pulling out the IV needle midway through the drip. In addition, he did not put any pressure on the wound to stop the bleeding.
âI met an acquaintance, thatâs why I went out to chat with him for a bit.â Kevan hid his right hand behind his back discreetly, his lace devoid of any expression.
âIs taking to an acquaintance more important than your own health?â Dylan shoved Kevan onto the bed and glared at him âLie down and stay still! Iâll get the nurse to reinsert your IV drip.â
Dylan had taken the words out of her mouth so Larissa said nothing. Hands hanging by her side, she stood aside in silence.
âWhen are you going back to work at the Regal Dynasty Hotel?â Kevan asked her suddenly.
Startled. Larissa replied honestly, âTomorrow,â
Kevan furrowed his brows slightly. âSo soon? Canât you postpone it for a few more days?â
âTve been on leave for over a week already,â Larissa answered.
The amount of leave she had taken during this period was more than what she took for the previous year entirely. Her yearâend bonus was going to go down the drain.
âTake a few more days off,â Kevan suggested. âTravisâ family might cause trouble at the Regal Dynasty Hotel However, Larissa had already considered these factors. âI will call the police.â
Since the messy affairs between her and Travis were now public knowledge, she no longer had to hide this issue from her colleagues. Instead, she could take a tougher approach to dealing with the Hardy family.
Kevan pursed his lips. âYou must be exhausted from the events of the past two days.â
*Iâm fine.â Except for nearly passing out when she had climbed up the mountain yesterday, Larissa didnât feel particularly tired.
âWhen I used to work day and night shifts consecutively, I was much more exhausted than I am now,â
she continued.
Unable to think of any other reason for Larissa to extend her leave, Kevan ordered with a stern face, âAnyway, you canât go to work next week. Il notify your general manager in a moment.â
Larissa found his insistence absurd. âWhy?â
Chapter TUN She had a feeling that Kevan was hiding something from her, but she couldnât figure out what I was.
âThereâs no specific reason.â Kevan had just finished speaking when a nurse came in with another IV drip.
âThis time, donât disappear midway before the IV drip is fully administered. You really scared everyone in the department just now.â she admonished.
With an indifferent expression, Kevan appeared unapologetic. On the other hand, there was a hint of impatience on his face at getting reprimanded.
It was Dylan who apologized on his behalf, âSorry for the trouble you went through. We will take good care of him.â
After the nurse finished setting up the IV drip. Larissa resumed the previous topic. âRegardless, Iâm going back to the hotel to work tomorrow.
Kevan looked up and fixed his eyes on her coldly.
However, his weak state made his gaze less intimidating than before.
Larissa met his eyes fearlessly, staring back at him,
