Larissa wasted no time and transferred the money for the medical expenses to the agent along with compensation for the hardship he had been through. She also sent several messages apologizing, but he ignored her.
Then she contacted Andrew and said. âThe tenant claims they havenât received the refunded rent from you. Can you please send me the transaction records?â
Andrew sent her a screenshot from a mobile banking app, showing that he had transferred over ten thousand dollars to an account a lew hours ago. The amount matched the rent paid by the tenant.
Without hesitation, Larissa look the screenshot and went straight to the middle-aged coupleâs place.
When she rang the doorbell for the first time, they didnât open the door at all. Instead, they shouted at her through a wooden panel, saying, âWeâve already paid the rent, and weâre not going to move out
âBut Ms. Levangeâs son said he refunded the rent to you.â Larissa stood by the door, ensuring her voice could be heard inside. âHe even Sent me a screenshot of the transaction record.â
âWhat transaction record?â The man inside grew angrier. âThey havenât returned the money at all.
Where did the transaction record come from? Are you all trying to scam us together?â
His anger seemed genuine, and considering Andrewâs history, Larissa began to doubt the authenticity of the screenshot.
âPlease open the door,â she softened her tone. âI just want you to see if this account belongs to you. If it doesnât I look for Ms. Levange.â
There was silence inside the house for a while, and Larissa patiently waited until the man finally opened the door. He only opened a cr ack, holding onto the door panel with one hand and a broom in the other, fully prepared to defend himself.
âWhereâs the screenshot?â He stared at Larissa warly, his eyes as red as his face, and he reeked of alcohol when he spoke.
Larissa frowned slightly, holding her breath to prevent hersell from showing an uglier expression. She extended her hand, holding her phone high so that he could see it. The man scrutinized it carefully, comparing each digit on the screenshot with the bank card number.
âYou scammers! How dare you forge my account The manâs expression suddenly changed, and he began to swing at Larissa.
Larissa had been hit on her right shoulder by Andrew with an ashtray and by Janine with a bag. And now she was hit by a broom. The pain made her break out in a cold sweat, draining the color from her face, even her lips turned pale.
âYou scammer! Do you think you can fool me?â The man mercilessly struck her other shoulder.
Unable to hold back, Larissa cried out in pain, covering her right shoulder and quickly stepping back two steps. The man chased after her,
continuously swinging the broom at Larissa.
âHow dare you scam me of my money, stu pid woman! I make you pay for scamming me! Iâll make you pay!â
âStop it! Otherwise, I call the police!â Larissa used her hand to block the broom swung at her while reaching for the elevator button.
But both elevators had gone up to the higher floors and kept ascending. She didnât know when they would come back down.
âYou want to call the police?â The man didnât take her warning seriously at all, âIf you have the guts, go ahead and call the police! Let them
amrest you, you fraudster
Every strike from him was ruthless, and the hard stick hitting her body burned with pain. Tears streamed down Larissaâs face. Giving up on waiting for the elevator, she clung to the last glimmer of hope and rushed to the opposite door, pounding on it with all her strength.
âMaria! Maria, open the door!â she shouted with a h oa rse voice.
âLarissa?â Maria Durham opened the door, utterly confused. When she saw the man chasing and hitting Larissa with a broom, she panicked and shouted, âWhat are you doing?â
