Chapter 208
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 208
Larissa closed the door and locked it from the inside.
The two people outside her door left after a minute, but they probably didnât go downstairs because Larissa heard the sounds of their doors closing, one after another.
Larissa kept her eyes open until dawn.
She did not sleep a wink, but no one came to knock on her door after that.
Breakfast was still delivered to her room by the household stall.
As Larissa was about to close the door, Reuben emerged from the room across from hers.
Glancing at the tray in her hand, he mouthed silently. âDo not eat that.â
After what happened last night, Larissa trusted Reuben more than anyone else in this house.
Throwing the pancakes and hash browns into the trash, she sat back and waited to see what would happen next.
As expected, someone knocked on her door again after half an hour.
âLarissa, are you awake?â
This time it wasnât Dorian, but Lana.
Larissa remained silent.
Lana twisted the doorknob but the door didnât budge.
She inserted the key to Larissaâs room that she had prepared earlier into the lock and unlocked the door.
However, when Lana entered the room, the first thing she saw was Larissa standing right behind the door.
She crossed her arms and stared at Lana calmly.
Lana was startled at Larissaâs appearance and dropped the key in her hand.
it fell to the ground with a loud clang.
âLari Larissa, youâre awake. Why didnât you respond?â Lana laughed dryly.
âYou woke me up when I was about to fall asleep. I got up to open the door for you, but you managed to come in by yourself.â Larissa bent down, retrieved the key from the floor, and casually put it in her pocket. âThis is the key to my room, right? Since Iâve lost my old one. Iâll take this instead.â
Lana opened her mouth to protest, but she finally relented. âAlright,â she said reluctantly.
âDo you need something from me? Larissa asked her.
âOh!â Lana seemed to have just remembered why she came. âDad came home, and everyoneâs in the living room downstairs. He asked me to come up and get you.â
âNo, thanks,â Larissa refused. âI just had breakfast, for some reason, I feel a bit tired. I need to sleep a little longer.â
This time, Lana didnât try to persuade her like she did yesterday. Instead, she smiled with glee.
âIf youâre tired, then rest well Iâm sure Dad will understand.â Lana said reassuringly. âBy the way, if youâre going to sleep, donât lock the door. Iâm afraid you wonât hear me when I come to call you for lunch. Dad said everyone must be present for todayâs lunch, no absences allowed.â
âOkay,â Larissa agreed.
As soon as Lana lett, she immediately locked the door.
Well, it seemed that everyone in the Seymour family was involved in this conspiracy. No one was an exception.
Larissa felt that she couldnât just sit and wait for her impending doom.
If she locked herself up in her room and refused to come out, they would definitely suspect something.
Besides, she couldnât go without eating or drinking for the next two days.
Larissa freshened up and changed her clothes. She decided to grab the bull by its homs and went downstairs.
As Lana had said, both the Seymour and Cole families were in the living room on the first floor.
However, the atmosphere was more solemn than what Larissa had imagined.
A dark cloud hung over everyone in the living room as they had gloomy expressions on their faces.
Forcing a smile, Larissa spoke up, breaking the mysterious silence. âWhy is everyone so quiet? What are we doing here?â
Upon hearing her voice, the expression on their faces changed abruptly.
âLari? Werenât you going to sleep? Why did you come downstairs? Yvette asked in surprise.
âI thought about it and decided itâs better to come down and say hello.â Larissa sat down beside Yvette and held her hand naturally.
Yvetteâs body stiffened and there was a hint of disgust in her eyes.
Instinctively, she wanted to pull her hand away, but she hesitated for a few seconds before relenting.
