Chapter 277
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 277
Kevan got straight to the point, informing Larissa, âYou canât be transferred back to Covenford for now.â
âWhy?â Larissa was in disbelief. She wondered if even Kevan couldnât handle this matter. Could it be that Edmund held a higher position
than him in the group?
âActually, it was Grandpa who transferred you over.â Kevan couldnât think of any other excuse, so he decided to tell her the truth.
âAs you know, Grandpa isnât doing well from our last visit. He felt that his days are numbered. He also felt lonely. Therefore, he hopes we can visit him more often.â
Larissa liked Roland a lot. It might be due to the lack of love she received as a kid. Therefore, she cherished elders that were kind to her. If
it was Roland who wanted her to stay â¦..
âThen I wonât leave.â
Kevan was shocked by how quickly Larissa agreed.
âDidnât you say you dislike Bartham?â
âYes, itâs because I donât like the Rogers family. However, now that I have people I like here, Iâll try to like this city.â Larissa sounded sincere.
Kevan stared at her side profile, looking at the slightly raised corners of her mouth and the strange brilliance in her eyes. Suddenly, he felt
a flutter in his heart and hugged her.
âThank you,â he murmured, his head nestled on her shoulder.
Larissa thought he was thankful on his grandfatherâs behalf, so she gently patted his back and said, âNo need for that. Letâs visit Grandpa
when youâre free.â
âOkay.â Kevan hugged her even tighter after that. He decided he would never let go of her in his life.
Edmund got the news and went to Larissa. âYouâre not leaving?â
Larissa didnât want to answer him. Although she stayed for Roland, it was still a fact that Edmund was the one who applied for her to be
transferred here without her permission.
In addition to the heads-up Kevan had provided, Larissa had resolved to distance herself from a superior who did not value her opinions. Nonetheless, considering the long-term nature of their working relationship and the fact that he was her superior, she knew better than to display a negative attitude toward him.
âYes, unfortunately, the headquarters did not accept my application.â She pretended to sigh. âI have no choice but to comply with the orders given.â
âActually, Bartham is a great place.â Edmund pulled out a chair and sat down. He was trying to brainwash her. âThe Regal Dynasty Hotel in Bartham is the most valued hotel among our branches. If you do well, you are more likely to get a promotion than in Covenford. Plus, not that Iâm praising myself, but youâll come to see that Iâm a good leader after we get along. Iâm easygoing and never give my subordinates any pressure.â
Larissa hoped he was a cold guy like his cousin and wouldnât pester her frequently. She showed him a fake smile and responded briefly to his lengthy monologue.
âItâs going to be the New Year soon,â Edmund abruptly changed the topic, veering away from their previous discussion.
âAre you going back to Covenford?â
Larissa had already agreed to stay with Kevan during New Year, so she wonât be returning to Covenford.
âIâll probably stay in Bartham. My family is here.â
Edmund didnât seem surprised. It was probably because he had conducted some investigation into her background.
âIâll be here too. Can I ask you out for the New Year?â
