Chapter 314
Sweet Subterfuge
After Violet left. Kevan sat alone in the living room for a long time. He knew his mother was just speaking out of anger and wouldnât actually sever their relationship.
Based on his understanding of her, she would most likely try to convince Larissa instead since she couldnât get through to him. Hence, he felt it was necessary to give Larissa a headsâup in advance.
The next morning, during breakfast, Kevan probed, âHas my mother mentioned anything about having children to you these past few days?
Larissa was surprised. âShe mentioned it to you too?â
âYes,â Kevan nodded.
âHow did you respond to her? Larissa asked anxiously.
Luckily, she hadnât said anything the day before. Il Kevanâs madeâup reasons didnât match, his mother would begin to suspect something âI told her that I donât like kids and donât plan on having children,â Kevan said.
That astonished Larissa as she never expected Kevan to shoulder the blame himself. She couldnât help but applaud his courage.
âSo, how did she react? Did she compromise? Larissa asked.
âNo.â Kevan replied as he took a sip of his steaming hot coffee. âSince she didnât convince me, sheâll probably try to convince you instead.
Regardless of what she says, you have to firmly insist that itâs me who doesnât want children and that you canât change my mind.â
Larissa held her mug, feeling the warmth of the hot milk through the cup, spreading to her palms. âIs that really necessary?
She didnât fully agree with his approach.
âWeâre bound to get divorced sooner or later. Why donât you just tell her that weâll have children in a few years. At least it will pacify her for now.â
âAs Iâve said it before.â Kevan stared at her intently, his sharp gare carrying a clear warning. âWe wonât get divorced, and youâre not allowed to entertain such thoughts again.â
Larissa scoffed, âDidnât you say that because your lover hadnât gotten a divorce back then? if you donât get divorced, are you planning to keep dragging her along without giving her a proper answer?â
Kevan didnât want to continue the conversation with her, Hence, he gulped down his remaining collee, scalding his tongue in the process.
âIâm going to the company. Remember what I said.â
Normally, Violet would arrive just in time for lunch, but that day she came over more than an hour early.
That wasnât the only thing out of the ordinary.
This time, she brought several people along, each holding a large cardboard box, while she cared a pink cage containing a white and brown purebred Ragdoll call Wheeling herself to the door, Larissa lell overwhelmed by the grand scene.
âMom, whatâs all this?â
Violet directed the people to move the cardboard boxes into the kitchen and then placed the cage on the floor, gently taking out the quiet little kitten from inside..
The kitten was probably two months old at most, and the short fur of its small body looked clean. Its eyes were as clear and light blue as the sky, beautiful and profound. With just one glance, Larissa fell deeply in love.
âDo you like it?â Violet put the kitten on Larissaâs lap, bending down to gently stroke its back.
The little kitten lay there, closing its eyes in contentment.
âI love it!â Larissa nodded enthusiastically. âItâs so beautifullâ
No one could resist such a cute animal Larissa was the same; she wanted to hold the kitten in her arms and squeeze it tightly.
Violet smiled with satisfaction. âIâm glad you like it.â
After Larissa hugged the kitten for a while, she asked Violet. âAre you going to keep it yourself?
âNo.â Violet shook her head. âOne of my friends has a pair of these cats at home. They recently had a litter, and now theyâre giving them away. Since you mentioned feeling lonely at home yesterday, I asked her for one. It can keep you company and make you less lonely.â
Larissa was almost moved to tears.
âThank you, Mom!â She held the kitten even lighter.
âYouâre welcome.â Violet said with a smile.
Alter the people put the cardboard boxes in the kitchen, they came back to the living room.
