Chapter 388
Sweet Subterfuge
Larissa decided to visit the Rogers, fully aware that she was the one responsible for the trouble that had arisen. She understood that it wouldnât be fair for Kevanâs parents to bear the blame for her actions.
Bemard and Maria were in the living room with gloomy expressions. As soon as they spotted Larissa, they lunged toward her in a frenzy. You vicious bitch! anything happens to my grandson, I make sure you pay with your life!
Maria, with her long nails, swiftly left three bloody marks on Larissaâs face in a split second. Violet couldnât act fast enough and was only able to pull Larissa away after the latter had covered her face.
âCalm down! Listen to what Lari has to say.â
âWhatâs there to say? Will she admit to what she did? Iâve never seen such a vicious woman. Nana is her sister! How could she do that to her?â Maria glared at Larissa.
Larissa maintained a resolute gaze and replied. âI did not push Lana. She fell on her own, you truly wish to debate this matter, I actually pulled her to prevent her from falling of the escalator. Otherwise, she would already be experiencing a miscarriage rather than just an unstable pregnancy.â
âYouâre lying! Maria shouted at her. Her highâpitched voice made Larissaâs ears hurt.
âIf I had known that saving your grandsonâs life would result in me ending up like this. I should have let go of Lana. At least it would have been worth enduring your beatings and scoldings then. I suppose none of you really care about what the truth is. You only want me to shoulder the blame. If thatâs the case. I wonât waste my time here. Just think whatever you want. I donât care. I just want to remind you that Iâm divorced from Kevan, so if you want to find me, donât come here.â Larissa smiled, but there wasnât any joy in her eyes.
Everyone in the Rogers household was shocked. They couldnât discem whether it was Larissaâs unwavering determination or the revelation of her divorce from Kevan that had taken them aback.
Then, Larissa bowed toward Kevanâs parents and said, âIâm sorry for causing you two trouble.â
When she rose from her bow, she turned toward Maria, pointed at the wound on her lace, and said.
âThis is my gift to you as your daughter, a way for you to release your anger. If you remain unsatisfied with the outcome, you can get Lana to make a police report. Iâm willing to confront her in court.â
Without caring for their reactions, she straightened her posture and walked out of the Rogers residence. On the way back, she called Wendy, âGet prepared. Once my visa is approved. Iâll be coming to you.â
Wendyâs screams echoed through the phone, but once she calmed down, curiosity took over. âWhat made you come to this decision?â
âNothing.â Larissa said. She just wanted to escape from that environment, so it didnât matter where she went. She thought going to where Wendy was might make her feel better.
Wendy found a suitable local language academy and emailed her resume to the graduate supervisor of her universityâs hotel management major. Half a month later, Larissaâs visa was approved.
During this period, she never left the house other than going to the embassy. The Rogers family did attempt to contact her, but she had blacklisted their phone numbers, Since she had decided to bid farewell to her past, she didnât want to bother herself with any more troubles from the previous chapter of her life.
When Lanssa lett, it was May. The atmosphere mimored her somber mood on that particular day with a light rain. Her tax was stuck in traffic, so the driver struck up a conversation with her, âMiss, where are you heading?â
âIâm going to study abroad, Larissa answered âThatâs great? The driver looked at her through the rearview minor and couldnât help but express his doubts, saying, âBut are you going alone to the airport? Arenât your family going to see you off?â
At the mention of family, Larissa smiled wryly and said, âNo, theyâre busy.â
The driver complained on her behalf. âNo matter how busy they are, they should make time to send you all, shouldnât they? After all you might not be back for a few years once you leave, right?â
