Chapter 397
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 397
Larissa smiled in her sleep. After deciding to keep the child, she would have to deal with the difficulties that came with pregnancy, Lucky for her, the child was well-behaved and didnât bring her much trouble.
Aside from experiencing an increased appetite and constant drowsiness, Larissa didnât feel much different than usual, it was just that it became more cumbersome for her to move about as her belly grew bigger with each passing day.
In the middle of July, Larissa received an email from a lecturer at Wendyâs university informing her that she had been accepted into a masterâs course. At the end of August, she officially went to university.
When the lecturer saw her pregnant belly, he didnât display any signs of shock or surprise; instead, he treated it like something he saw every day. He even advised her to take care of her health and not to overexert hersell.
Life as a postgraduate student was undoubtedly busy, but it wasnât too hectic. Of course, this was because the lecturers helped her out a little on purpose. Most of her days were occupied with attending classes and discussing her research with her tutor and fellow group mates. She would also hang out in the library, where she would spend time reading journals or working on her thesis.
I was almost New Yearâs again in the blink of an eye. The baby was expected to arrive at the end of January. Wendy checked the horoscope and found that the baby would probably be a Capricom. If only the due date was a little later, then your baby would be an Aquarius! Wendy expressed, with a tinge of disappointment.
âWhatâs so special about being an Aquarius?â Larissa responded, glaring at Wendy.
âAquarius babies are absolutely adorable!â Wendy huffed and pouted, then said meekly, âBut Capricom babies are pretty cute too. think Iâd better prepare two gold necklaces for the baby anyway!â
âOh, please calm down!â Larissa exclaimed, feeling helpless. âGold necklaces arenât necessary. Why would you need to get the baby two off them?
Over the course of the past eight months, Wendy diligently prepared for the arrival of the baby. She had not only cleared out a room for the baby but also bought everything a child needed from being a newbom till it was three years old. Among the numerous purchases, Wendy had bought clothes, shoes, diapers, milk powder, and more. However, at the moment, she was fussing over a gold necklace.
âMy child, my money, so I can do whatever I want. Itâs none of your business! Almost every time Larissa complained, Wendy would shut her up with these words, and every single time. Larissa would be left speechless.
When the contractions began, Larissa was discussing her thesis with her classmates in her tutorâs office. When the pain hit her all of a sudden, she clutched her belly and doubled over, letting out a moan of agony. The other students called for the tutor in panic, and everyone worked together to help Larissa downstairs. Then, the tutor drove her to the hospital and helped her inform Wendy.
Wendy wanted to stay with her in the delivery ward, but Larissa relused. She suffered alone inside for a few hours and finally gave birth to a chubby baby boy of about 15 pounds amidst the doctorsâ and nursesâ words of encouragement. The babyâs cries pierced through the exhaustion that had nearly lulled Larissa into sleep, compelling her to forcefully open her weary eyes.
As Larissa gazed upon her babyâs wrinkled face, tears streamed down her face. How ugly,â she thought. However, a profound realization followed-that the baby was her child. She had camed this child within her for nine arduous months and given birth to it after so much pain. For a fleeting moment, she actually didnât want to part ways with him.
