Chapter 508
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 50 8
Since Kevan came late, it was not long before Asterâs bedtime came around.
Normally, Aster would obediently go to bed on his own, without anyone reminding him.
However, today he was being stubbom and refused to leave the living room.
He clung to Kevanâs arm like gum, staring at him pleadingly with his wide eyes.
âUncle Kevan, canât you spend the night with me?â Aster begged sweetly, his eyes filled with anticipation.
Kevan didnât dare to give him a hasty answer. He turned to Larissa and waited for her response.
Naturally, Larissa rejected him immediately. âUncle Kevan is too busy tonightâ
The hope in Asterâs eyes faded, and Kevan himself felt a little disappointed.
Larissa detached Aster from Kevanâs body and pushed him in the direction of his bedroom. âWash up and go to bed now.â
Dragging his feet. Aster tried to gesture to Kevan as he walked away reluctantly.
Although Kevan didnât want to part with Aster, he was more afraid of Larissa. He could only shrug and gave Aster a helpless look.
When Larissa emerged from the bathroom after making sure that Aster had finished his bath, she noticed Kevan asleep on the sofa.
His brows were tightly knitted and there was a patch of stubble on his chin, making Kevan look old and weary.
It was obvious that he hadnât been taking care of himself over the past two days.
Larissa couldnât bring herself to wake him up. She brought out a blanket from her room and gently covered him with it.
As Kevan was a light sleeper, he immediately opened his eyes when he felt something on his body.
At that moment Larissa was hovering over him, smoothening the blanket over his body.
The distance between their faces was only a few inches apart, so much so that Kevan could clearly see the pores on Larissaâs face. Taken aback, he froze for a moment. Kevan couldnât distinguish whether he was still in a dream or he was awake in reality.
Larissa noticed his reaction and looked away, a hint of frustration on her face.
âDid I wake you up?â she asked softly.
Snapping out of his trance, Kevan croaked with a hoa rse voice, âNo.â
He propped himself up on his elbows and rubbed his throbbing temples. âIs Aster asleep?â
Larissa nodded.
Looking at how tired Kevan seemed, her heart softened. âHow about you sleep here tonight?â
âThereâs no need. I might disturb your rest.â Kevan declined her offer.
âItâs not a big dealâ Larissa said, feeling embarrassed.
Yesterday, she was supposed to keep an eye on him, but she ended up sleeping earlier and failed to take care of him.
Fortunately, nothing untoward happened, or else she wouldnât know how to explain it to Dylan.
âLetâs do as we did yesterday. You can sleep in my room and I sleep with Aster.â Larissa made the arrangements.
However, Kevan had a different opinion. âLet me sleep with Aster. He also wants me to accompany him.â
âYou must be exhausted. Sleeping with Aster might affect your rest.â
Larissa refused Asterâs request out of her consideration for Kevanâs health.
Of course, the phone call earlier had also left her feeling troubled and distracted.
