Chapter 519
Sweet Subterfuge
Larissa was taken aback, âHuh?â
Gary avoided her gaze and asked In a low voice, âWhat about your father?â
Although Larissa was trembling, she put on a smile and said. âMy mom said he passed away when I was very young. Iâve never seen my dad, and I donât even know what he looks like. Thatâs the biggest regret of my life. Because of this. I canât bear to let my sonâs hopes be shattered.â
Garyâs heart, which had just calmed down, began to ache again. He wanted to tell Larissa that he was her father.
But he was worried that she would blame him for not appearing all these years, and might even refuse to acknowledge him. He wouldnât be able to maintain even a simple friendship with her.
âDo you miss your father?â he tentatively asked.
âWhen I was little, I thought about him, especially when I was sad,â Larissa recalled the past, as if all the pain had disappeared, leaving behind a faint trace of melancholy, âBut as I grew up. I stopped thinking about it because I knew it was pointless.â
âWhat if your father suddenly appeared in front of you, could you accept him?â Gary asked again.
âMy father is already deceased, so if he appeared in front of me, he must be a ghost right? Larissa didnât take Garyâs question seriously at all and joked with him instead. âI definitely wouldnât be able to accept it. I might even scream in fright.â
âWhat if your father didnât pass away? Gary looked at Larissa, his gaze profound.
Larissaâs heart wavered, and she cast a strange look at Gary. âDo you know something?â Her voice was trembling.
Looking at her, Gary answered, âNo.â
In the end, he didnât dare to tell her the truth, Larissa didnât completely believe his answer. After all, his reaction was too strange. There had to be something more to it. Just at that moment. Lewis returned, breaking the strange tension between the two.
Gary heaved a sigh of relief.
âThe discharge procedures have been completed,â Lewis announced as he picked up the suitcase next to Garyâs bed. âWe can leave now.â âOkay.â Gary quickly stood up and hurriedly walked out of the room.
âLetâs go.â
On the way back to the hotel Larissa didnât ask him any more questions because Lewis was pres 15 present.
She dropped them off at the hotel and instructed the assistant to take care of them before she hurried to the kindergarten.
Both sides of the road leading to the kindergarten were lined with luxury cars.
Larissa circled around the area a couple of times before finding a space to park in the underground parking lot of a mall.
By the time she arrived at the kindergarten, it was already past 9 am, and the opening ceremony of the sports meet had already begun. The loud music made her instinctively quicken her pace.
Fortunately, she was acquainted with the security guard, so he didnât give her a hard time and let her in without a hassle.
The students were all gathered on the large sports field, and Larissa had to crane her neck before she finally spotted Asterâs class. Parents and children stood side by side, forming orderly lines. Almost every child had a pair of parents by their side, which made Larissaâs heart sink.
Aster must be feeling even worse by comparing himsell to other families.
âMommy! Mommy! Over here Asterâs voice rang from a distance.
Larissa followed the voice and saw her precious son jumping and waving at her, as well as the man standing beside him, Standing at a towering height, the man stood out in the crowd.
