Chapter 554
Sweet Subterfuge
Chapter 554
âMs. Seymour, someoneâs here to see you.â Larissaâs assistant intercepted her at the elevator lobby just as she returned from a meeting with a client. The assistantâs expression held a hint of unease, one that Larissa had never seen on his face before.
âWho is it?â Larissaâs steps halted as a wave of apprehension washed over her, causing her to cautiously glance behind him.
A trace of disdain flashed across his eyes as he replied, âItâs that female celebrity, Yvette, who has been caught up in a bunch of scandals recently.â He paused for a moment and asked curiously. âAre you acquainted with her?â
She didnât answer his question, Instead, she remained still as she inquired, âWhat does she want from me?â
âI donât know.â He shook his head. âShe seemed quite angry and had a pretty nasty expression on her face.â
Although Yvette spoke softly, and her attitude toward him was cordial, he was not her lan nor a greenhorn in the workplace. He could somewhat discern her underlying emotions beneath her calm lacade. Larissa had a premonition that Yvetteâs visit was connected to the article. In fact, she had anticipated that this day would come.
Yvetteâs reputation for engaging in transactional relationships and behaving arrogantly was widely known within the industry she used to be a part of. However, the part where she mistreated her daughter remained a secret known only to Larissa herself and the Seymour family. Given that the family now relied on Yvetteâs comeback to generate income and revive Cosmic Entertainment they certainly wouldnât do anything to jeopardize their own interests. Therefore, it was easy for Yvette to figure out who exposed her past.
Larissa took a deep breath and turned to her assistant, instructing him, âInform the security to come up.
Lead them directly inside it there is any commotion in my office laterâ
The assistant widened his eyes in fear. He wanted to ask something but hesitated. In the end, he replied, âOkay.â
Larissa pushed open the door to her office. Yvette was sitting on the couch, with a cup of lukewarm water in front of her,
As soon as she heard a noise, she turned and her expression changed instantly. She rose to her feet angrily. âWas it you?â she exclaimed. The corners of her eyes fed, smoothing out the line lines.
âWhat are you saying?â Larissa leigned confusion.
Maybe it was because she had distanced herself from her dark past for too long, or that she had rehearsed this moment countless times. In her head, surprisingly, she didnât feel the same lear as before when confronting the enraged Yvette.
âDonât play dumb with me! Yvette grabbed a decorative pillow and hurled it toward Larissa.
Larissa swiftly dodged it, and the pillow hit the cold wall behind her, bounced back, and eventually landed on the floor.
âMs. Yvette, you need to stay calm.â Larissa maintained a sale distance from her mother, âI have surveillance here.â She glanced up at the comer of the ceiling and said. âYou wouldnât want any more scandals to emerge, would you?
Yvetteâs expression froze upon hearing that. Moments later, she gnashed her teeth in Irustration.
âLarissa, how dare you?â
She glared fiercely at Larissa, her eyes reddening and filed with intense resentment.
Larissa lightly chuckled, neither confirming nor denying anything her mother had said. She bent down to pick up the pillow from the floor.â Is there anything else?â She then turned to open the ollice door, seeing no response from her mother. âMy time is valuable. If you donât have other business, please-â
She gestured with a hand signal indicating the way out.
A group of security guards had already been walling outside, and as soon as the door opened, they leaned in to look inside cautiously.
Yvette immediately noticed the guards in their uniforms. Even if she had the Intention to make a scene, she had no choice but to leave for the sake of her own reputation and dignity.
