Chapter 627
Sweet Subterfuge
âIâm sorry. I had an accident a few years ago, and I donât remember anything from the past,â Kevan apologized with a smile, using âamnesia as an excuse for his lack of recollection.
âOh, right.â Only then did Wendy recall that Larissa had mentioned this before. She felt a bit annoyed with herselfâhad she been talking to a brick wall earlier?
Kevan continued to play his part, acting as il he truly had amnesia. âDid I know Larissa belare? No one has ever told me about it. Can you give me more details about what you said earlier?â
âForget it.â Wendy wasnât sure how to explain their complicated history in such a short time. âSince you donât remember, letâs just start fresh, shall we? Do you like Larissa?â she asked him earnestly.
Though he couldnât find the right words to express himself to Larissa, with Wendy, he responded smoothly. âYes. I do.â even though he blushed with shyness.
âDo you want to be with her?â
âYes.â
âDo you promise to treat Aster as your own and take good care of him without any blases?â
âI promise.â
âGood. Iâll help you. then.â Wendy admired his honesty. This surprised Kevan; he thought it would take more ellort to gain acknowledgment from Wendy.
As if she could read his mind. Wendy emphasized. âIâm helping you not for your sake, but because Aster really likes you. I want to fulfill his wish.â
Kevan responded with a simple âHmmâ and replied. âRegardless, I still have to thank you for that.â
âJust treat Larissa and Aster well if you want to thank me.â Wendy pointed to her eyes and then to him.
âIâll be keeping a close eye on you. If you ever act as despicable as you did in the past, I wonât hesitate to take them away from you.â
âYou wonât need to do that.â Kevan smiled. âUncle Gary would personally see to that.â
Wendy laughed, recalling the protective stance that Gary often assumed when it came to Larissa.
âYouâre probably rightâ
Kevan played with Aster for a while before leaving. Once back at the hotel, he finally had time to check his inbox, which was now filled with new emails. He hadnât given any orders to stop receiving updates, so his subordinates continued to send him information about Lana.
He clicked on todayâs email which contained several images of Lanaâs medical reports. The reports were full of professional terminology and various numerical values that he couldnât make sense of. But the one thing he could understand was the final diagnosis of HIV. In simple terms. Lana had been diagnosed with AIDS.
AIDS was an incurable disease, and Lana would eventually succumb to it. However, there was no guarantee that she wouldnât maliciously harm others or drag a few more people down with her during that process.
His expression tumed cold at the thought, and he quickly replied to his subordinaleâs email âKeep a close eye on Lana. Report to me immediately if you notice any unusual behavior.â
Within two minutes, another email notification appeared. It was still about Lana.
âMigrila kicked Lana out of the hotel Lana then went back to the Seymour family, but they also didnât welcome her. Now, sheâs gone to Yvetteâs ward.â
Yvette had already regained consciousness, but due to her brain injury, she was now mentally challenged and couldnât speak or take care of herself. Her injuries were severe, and she hadnât fully recovered yet. With Xavier in pilson, lan was no longer wiling to cover her medical expenses. Due to Yveiteâs lame and the publicâs attention to her case, the hospital didnât dare lo evict her and instead moved her to a regular ward, providing continuous care.
