Chapter 700
Sweet Subterfuge
âFools! Fools! What a bunch of fools!â
Accompanied by the smashing of items, a deranged roar echoed in the presidential office of Soaring Corporation.
The secretaries and executive assistants exchanged glances. They hung their heads low helplessly and continued their work as though they didnât hear the commotion.
Tony, the executive assistant soon received an intercom call. The number caused him to hesitate momentarily before he answered it politely, âMr. Harrington. Mr. Cody isnât at work today.
âI donât think I have the right to ask for his personal business. Yes. I shall relay the message once heâs back.â
Once the call ended, his colleagues began texting in the group chat.
âIs Mr. Harrington calling for a BOD meeting?â
âPlease, donât. Can he not cause trouble?!â
âThe King is on the verge of losing his sanity. Give him another blow, and weâre dead meat.â
âWhen will this end?â
âIf this continues. Iâm gonna resign. The pay is high, but the pressure as a presidential management staff is taking a toll on me. Weâre on tenterhooks whenever the King loses his temper. This is hell.â
âTalking about handling the pressure, can anyone beat me in that?â
Sighing, Tony rose from his seat.
He tidied his clothes and straightened his back. His soldierâlike expression spoke of determination and despair at the same time.
He informed the others. âIâm ready.â
The others cast him a sympathetic look.
He walked to the door to the presidential office. He knocked on the door only after taking a deep breath.
âMr. Cody.â he called, and the commotion in the office stopped.
Seizing his chance, he said everything in one go, âMr. Cody, Mr. Harrington called for a BOD meeting a moment ago. May I know when you will be free?â
Anxiously, he stood right there while waiting for an answer. However, all he received was stilling silence.
âMr. Cody?â Tony prompted gingerly. âAre you alright?â
This time, he received a response. Something smashed against the door, causing it to shake, Tony, who was surprised, took a stride backward.
âScram!â Cody shouted in fury. Tony ran back to his seat without a second thought. His heart was palpitating.
âThatâs hella scary,â he typed. âItâs Code Red, everyone. Do not provoke the King unless itâs something very important.â
âWho has the guts to do that? Thatâs suicide!
âSay, did something tick the King off? Is the company going bankrupt?â
âIâm not sure about that, but His Majestyâs project is a flop. We lost a lot of money. Thereâs nothing to fill the pit right now. Thatâs why Mr. Harrington has been calling in for a B00 meeting every single day.â
âLet me add something. His Majesty seriously gotta up his game. Heâs nowhere as capable as Mr.
Rogers. Anyways, Iâm gonna leave even il Soaring still manages to sustain itself. The King loses it every single day. I canât take it anymore.â
âNow that you bring it up. Iâm thinking of leaving too âMe too Cody, who was in the presidential office, was unaware of the ruckus outside.
After smashing the last item on his desk he flopped into his chair like a lifeless person.
