Chapter 746
Sweet Subterfuge
Lewisâ question was too straightforward, and Larissa was not prepared.
âHuh?â Her eyes sparkled with something as she tried to lib. âI just thought that Dad was too much, so I said that to make him angry on purposer âSo, you feel nothing for Mr. Rogers? Lewis pressed her.
Larissa looked down. Her fingemails were digging into her palm. She did not want to let Lewis know how she felt. Still she did not want to lie either.
Lewis knew what a long silence meant. âI know your answer. His voice was mild. âNext time Uncle Gary does anything else. Iâll help you.â
Larissa looked up. Lewis was not looking at her, and his expression was still normal âDonât tell Uncle Gary about this.â He reminded her. âOtherwise, I be kicked out of the house.â
Larissa teared up because of how touched she felt.
Although Lewis had always treated her like she was his biological sister, their relationship only formed because of Gary.
She never expected Lewis to choose her when she was in conflict with Gary. But Lewis did exactly that today.
âLewis However, before Larissa could say anything heartfelt, Lewis interrupted her and said. âIâm only helping you because I think Uncle Garyâs not handling this correctly. I have no thoughts of matchmaking you and Mr. Rogers âBut I must say this in defense of Uncle Gary. Although he can be kinda bossy, heâs sill the person who loves you most in the world. Never ever doubt that.â
Larissa replied with a sob. âI know.â
âAlright.â Lewis pushed her ankle off of his knee before using tissues to wipe of the remaining medicine on his hands. He grunted in disgust, still able to smell the medicine. Frowning, Lewis quickly threw the tissues into the trash can.
Lewis stood up and asked Larissa, âWill you go home tonight, or will you stay here?â
He had massaged her ankle for so long. The swelling had reduced a little, but it still looked pretty hideous.
âIf you want to stay, Fl be able to take you to the company tomorrow.â
Larissa could not drive, and now that her ankle was swollen-
âIâm going home.â Larissa was decisive. âWendy will be working overtime for a week starting from tomorrow. She has no time to pick Aster up at all I have to do it myself.â
The soâcalled âIndustrial Summit was held at the hotel Wendy worked in. It just so happened that Wendyâs job was operational planning for big events.
So, everything, including venue decoration and deployment of people, was under Wendyâs job scope.
When she got really busy, she could not even go home, so forget taking care of a kid.
âHow can you pick Aster up with the way you are now?â Lewis assessed the situation before making a direct decision. âStay here. I will bring Aster here, and Iâll send him to school tomorrow morning.â
âThis is too far from his school, itâs not convenient. Larissa insisted on leaving. âI just twisted my ankle, I didnât break my leg. I can still walk. Besides, there are cabs everywhere in Westonia. Il I canât get a cab I can still get an Uber.â
The environment here was too unfamiliar for Aster. Larissa was afraid that he would not be able to sleep well at night. Besides, Glory Hill was too far from the kindergarten, One would have to wake really early to send Aster to school Rather than make Aster suller, Larissa would rather suffer hersell.
Seeing that Larissa was them and stubborn in her decision, Lewis said alter some thinking, âHow about this? Mr. Rogers will have to stay here for a while anyway, so you let him stay at your place and help you with sending Aster to school.â
âCould you help me tell him? Larissa did not reluse this.
âOkay.âLewis waved his phone at her. âIl text you the details of the arrangements laler.â
