Chapter 780
Sweet Subterfuge
Larissa did not sleep well. Previously, she was so cold that she was shivering. Alas, now she was so hot that she kept sweating.
Still, there was a somewhat cold hand that kept holding hers. It gave her strength.
When she woke up, the house was still dark. She stared at the ceiling for a while before she woke up fully. As usual, she rolled over to get her phone. But a strong grip pulled her back the moment she moved.
Larissa hissed before getting a good look at what it was. Only then did she notice the dark figure hallâ
lying on the bed. Even though she could not see the personâs face, she knew it was Kevan, He was sleeping with one arm pillowing his head. He was sitting on the floor in a twisted position so that he could stretch out his legs.
Her heart aching for him, Larissa pushed him using their joined hands. âWake up!â
Kevan did not sleep very deeply. He woke up the moment she called him. âYouâre awake?â He sat up.
His voice was hoarse from sleep.
Without waiting for Larissa to speak he felt her forehead.
âFever seems to be gone.â His voice was much more relaxed as he got up from the floor. âDo you still want to sleep?â he asked.
Larissa shook her head. âNo.â
Kevan went over to the window and pulled the thick curtain aside a little. The sunlight lit up the bedroom.
Larissa shielded her eyes, before using her saliva to wet her throat. She asked anxiously, âWhat time is it? Has Aster gone to school yet?â
Based on the brightness outside, it must be quite late into the morning already.
Kevan came back, picked up her phone, and turned the screen on. âItâs almost 10 am. Aster did not go to school. He must be reading in the study now.â
To prevent Larissa from kicking off the blanket, Kevan watched her the whole night. He helped her change the cooling pads twice, so he only ended up falling asleep around 5 am.
At 8 am, Aster came to find him once. Worried about Larissaâs health, Kevan did not dare to leave Larissa alone at home. So, he called the kindergarten teacher to apply for a oneâday leave for Aster.
âI texted Lewis too. He said to let you rest at home.â The truth was, Lewisâ first reaction was to come see Larissa at once, but Kevan refused. If Lewis came, Gary would come too.
If Gary came, Kevan could not stay here. Kevan would never let himself end up in a position like that.
Larissaâs eyes got used to the brightness. She rubbed her aching temples and said, âOkay.â
Seeing that the redness on her lace had faded away, Kevan relaxed a little. âSit for a bit before you get up. Iâll make you breakfast.â
Alas, Larissa grabbed his right hand the moment he turned around. Her grip was weak, All Kevan needed to do was to bug his hand away and he would break free.
But Kevan stopped. He pushed down his raging emotions as he looked at their joined hands.
âIâm not hungry.â Larissa licked her lips. When she saw that he did not resist, she lightened her grip a bit. âDo you want to sleep on the bed for a bit?â she asked, her voice strained.
She knew that it was easy for Kevan to misunderstand her words, so she clarified, âYou sleep here, and I sleep in Wendyâs room! Asterâs bed is too small. Itâs not comfortable for you to sleep there.â
Although Kevan could sleep on Asterâs little bed, it was still too small for him. He never stretched his legs out at all.
Kevan smiled, his back still facing Larissa.
âI will prepare breakfast first. Asterâs hungry too.â
