Chapter 823
Sweet Subterfuge
âDonât eat so much, you need to leave room in your stomach for the stew. I spent so much on sealood.
We canât let them take advantage of us.â Kevan said.
His stingy attitude amused Larissa. âMr. Rogers, you have a net worth of over a hundred million dollars.
Canât you be less stingy?â she said, giving him the side eye.
Kvan shrugged it off, âWell, we canât let others take advantage of us.â He bent down and planted a kiss on Larissaâs cheek. Giving her at cheeky smile, he whispered into her ear, âMy money is only for my wile.â
His hot breath made Larissa blush red with embarassment. Trying to calm down her racing heart, Larissa turned away stiffly. âLewis and Marilyn are waiting for me to get them water.â
She grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge and almost fled from the kitchen.
Lewis and Marilyn were already seated on the sola. Although Wendy was usually lazy at home, she was enthusiastic about hosting quests.
Larissa had only left for a few minutes before Wendy had filed the table with various snacks. They were the ones that Kevan and Larissa bought at the supermarket yesterday.
Wendy opened each package and offered them to the two guests. âTry this. Itâs dried mango. Itâs not too sweet!
Lewis declined her offer with a wave of his hand and Marilyn said, âIâm on a diet, so I canât have any sweets.â
Wendy rolled her eyes and turned to Larissa. âWhy is your lace so red?â
Larissa was taken aback but she quickly fanned herself with her hand. âItâs too hot in the kitchen.â
Wendy didnât suspect anything and expressed concern for Kevan. âYouâve become so red after just a short while in the kitchen. Kevan has been standing by the frying pan all this time. He must have been really uncomfortable!â
Larissa mumbled an excuse before handing the water to Lewis and Marilyn, who were seated on the sofa side by side.
âWait for a moment longer. Thereâs one more dish to prepare before we can start having our meal.â
Although Larissa and Wendy usually communicated in Caldorian, they switched to Aldavian so that Marilyn could understand them.
Marilyn nodded to indicate that she wasnât in a rush, Lewis asked Larissa. âIs the stew ready?â
âWhat? Oh, I donât know. I didnât take a look just now.â
Larissa was surprised by his question. She quickly walked toward the kitchen and Lewis followed closely behind her.
Now that they were away from the crowd in the living room, Lewis leaned in from behind and warned Larissa in a low whisper. âThis is the Last time. If you dare meddle in my allairs again, I will have Gary set up blind dates for you every day.â
Larissa stopped in her tracks when she heard his words. She was preparing to come up with an excuse Alas. Lews brushed past her.
When Kevan was done frying the pretzels, everyone finally gathered around the dining table.
Larissa initially wanted to seat Lewis and Marilyn together, but he saw through her intentions.
Lewis forcibly pulled Larissa to sit in between both of them.
Kevan, Aster, and Wendy sat on the other side of the table.
After Asterâs Introductions, Marilyn had a clear understanding of the relationships among the people in the room.
Wendy was Larissaâs classmate and roommate. She was also Asterâs mother.
Kevan was Asterâs father.
Larissa had also mentioned that he was her driver.
â¦â¦â¦â¦..
Regardless, they seemed unusually close, which intrigued Marilyn.
Mr. Logan Jur or was usually reserved with the opposite sex. However, she witnessed him forcibly pulling Larissa to sit beside him with a dark expression just now.
Marilyn lowered her head, dejection clouding her eyes.
