Fix You

William

"Let me just warn you," I started, glancing at Nicholas, who was cracking his knuckles. "My sisters are kinda crazy, nothing like me at all."

Nicholas smiles, shruugging, "I'm fine with that. I'm sure they aren't that crazy."

"They are!" I exclaim, widening my eyes at his statement that they weren't. "Especially my older sisters. No, my younger actually. Well no... They're all crazy."

He continued to smile, "it's fine." His eyes went back down to his hands.

Something seemed wrong with Nick, he hasn't said much during the car ride, but I don't want to get into his business. Maybe he's just having a bad day or I'm boring him.

My curiosity got the best of me and I finally asked. "Are you okay?"

Nicholas looks up at me, his smile reappearing, "yeah, I'm just thinking a lot. Sorry if I'm not really talkative."

"Oh, okay. I was just making sure." He just smiles widely at me before looking back down at his hands, his face instantly dropping. I swallow thickly, continuing to drive.

My hands fumble with the keys in my hand, hurriedly trying to unlock the door. I stick in the key, twisted it, then opened the door.

Almost immediately, loud voices boomed through the house, even though only the twins were home right now.

"I want to watch Criminal Minds!"

"I had the remote first! And Mom said you had to finish your homework before you can watch TV. So go!"

"You're not the boss of me! You hogged the TV all day after school yesterday!"

"Okay and?! That was yesterday, stop living in the past!"

I furrow my brows, peeking my head into the living room, seeing the twins standing in front of the couch, scowling at each other.

Waving them off, I went back over to Nick, who was scanning the house. "Do you want anything to eat or drink?"

His eyes landed on me, "uh, sure." I motion for him to follow me to the kitchen, thinking of something small I can have so Nick doesn't feel weird for being the only one eating.

We have a lot of fruit, maybe I could eat some of that...

"What do you want? We have chips, pretzels popcorn, Speghettios, yogurt, cereal..." I scan the kitchen, shrugging. "You can have whatever, just don't eat my mom's 'special dip' or she'll flip."

Nicholas just smiles, "what are you going to have?"

I rather not eat anything but... "Probably some fruit, I'm not really hungry."

"I'll have some too, then."

I nod, opening the fridge. "Which kind do you want? We have apples, oranges, grapes, blue berries, strawberries... Berries... We have bananas over there and kiwis somewhere in here."

"What are you going to have?"

I turn and look at him, narrowing my eyes. "I see what you're doing, you awkward person." He just sends me his pearly whites. "I'm probably going to eat grapes. Those fine?" He nods.

I take the bag, discreetly glancing at the calories and serving size.

I place grapes one-by-one into a bowl, humming gently to myself as I did so. Nicholas just watches me, probably annoyed that I was taking so long.

"What song are you humming."

I glance at him, "oh, uh, Tell Me I'm A Wreck by Every Avenue, sorry, I didn't mean to hum so loud and bother you."

Nick shakes his head, "no, you weren't. The tune just sounded familiar. I don't mind you humming." I smile, continuing to drop grapes into a bowl. "May I ask why you are dropping single grapes?"

Cause I don't want to eat too much and consume too many calories and get fat. Duh. "I, uh... I just don't like the stick or some pieces. Sorry I'm taking so long."

"You're good, you don't have to keep apologizing."

I open my mouth to apologize, but quickly shut it. I just nod, dropping a few more grapes into the bowl before i closed the bag.

"Okay, let's go before they bother me." I spoke, referring to my younger sisters. He chuckles and agrees, following me out the kitchen and towards the stairs.

"William! Can you tell Rose that Mom told me I could watch TV after school!"

I mentally groan, turning towards Daisy. "What if Mom said that Rose could watch TV after school, huh? Maybe you're lying, maybe you're not."

Daisy scowls at me, "why would I lie?"

"Because you're a jerk!" Rose shot back, snatching the remote from Daisy's grip. "Dad said I could and Mom was fine with that!"

I roll my eyes, "stop arguing or I'm going to do what Dad does and turn on the news. Just watch something you both like and hurry before Gabby comes home. She'll claim it."

"Who's that?"

I glance at Nick, who was just standing there, eating a grape. "This is Nicholas. Nick, this is Rose and Daisy, my younger sisters. You don't have to talk to them though, they're brats."

Daisy gasps, "hey!"

Nick nudges me, sending me a playful glare. "Be nice." He stuck out his hand, "it's nice to meet you two."

The girls eagerly shook his hand, both shooting me smug looks. Rose stole some grapes from me before she ran off with the remote, Daisy running after her while yelling.

I lead Nick to my room, knowing he'll find it plain and dull. I just bite my lip, opening my bedroom door.

"It's kinda plain and boring, but uh..." I trail off, scanning my room. I didn't finish my sentence, noticing how dark my room was. I flick on the light, gulping.

"No, I like it. It's cute." I smile at his words, plopping down onto my bed, patting an empty spot on it for him to sit at. "You have a nice house. I like the decoration."

"Oh, thanks." I beam, popping a grape into my mouth. "My mom is like a freak when it comes to decorating things correctly and making sure the house always looks good."

He smiles, "my mom is the same. Every room has to have a theme to it or it's not good enough."

I laugh, nodding in understanding. "I get that." My phone rang in my pocket, interrupting us. I figured it was just my mom or Lucille, but it turned out to be Anthony. "Oh... I'm sorry, I need to take this." Nick just waved it off, letting me answer the call.

I stood from my bed, standing near my closet so Nick didn't l hear everything. "Hi."

"Hey, William." Anthony spoke, not as much excitement as I expected in his voice. "Sorry I didn't answer Sunday. I was busy."

I begin to pace, something I normally do when I'm talking to someone on the phone, standing. "Oh, it's okay. It was just 2 days ago..."

"Yeah, sorry. I left my phone at a friend's house Sunday night and didn't get it back until today." I shrug it off, not bothering to ask why he declined my calls. Maybe his friend did it. "What are you doing?"

"Just chilling, I have a friend over and we're eating grapes..."

"Oh."

I furrow my brows, confused on why he was acting odd. "Why oh?" I glanced at Nicholas, who was just looking around my room, a few grapes in his mouth. "I'll just call you later. I miss you."

"Okay, bye." Anthony then hung up without another word. I scowl. Maybe he's just having a bad day...

I shrug it off, going back to my bed. "Sorry my boyfriend called." My eyes then widened. "I mean, uh... My friend who is a boy... Yeah."

Nicholas laughs at my cover up, "I'm not homophobic, so it's fine. I figured it was someone you were dating since you said 'I miss you' to them."

I sigh in relief, glad he wasn't against anything. "Oh, yeah. He hasn't talked to me since Saturday so... He's just acting weird, I don't know." I then shrug, grabbing a grape. "Anyway, how are the grapes?"

Nicholas glanced down at the grape in the bowls. "Grapey." I laugh, nodding in agreement. "Sorry if I'm awkward right now... I get shy and kinda nervous when I go to others people's houses for the first few times."

So that's why he's acting odd. "Oh, it's fine. I understand. I like it better at my house than going to others." I nibble on the sweet fruit, scared that I'm eating them too fast. "Sorry I'm boring."

He lets out a charming, loud laugh, shaking his head. "You aren't boring at all, like I told you. You're really cool, honestly."

Oh, that makes me feel better. "Thanks, I'm a little boring though."

"Everyone is sometimes, but you aren't. You just think you are." Nicholas remarks me, smirking.

I open my mouth to reply, but my door bursted open, a pissed off Lucille standing there.

"William, look what your fucking boyfriend did!" She screeches, gesturing to her coffee stained clothes. "He got coffee all over my favorite sweater! I was so upset that I left."

I held in my laugh, licking my lips. "Hm, well, that's tough. You know you can't just leave work, right?"

"Oh please, it's not like I don't live with my boss." Lucille grumbled, crossing her arms over her chest. Her eyes landed on Nicholas, her expression brightening. "Who is this hottie?! I forgot you were bringing someone over!"

Nick sends her a smile, sticking his hand out. "I'm Nicholas, great to meet you." Lucille grins, gripping onto Nick's hand as she shook it.

"I'm Lucille, William's prettier, cooler older sister." She replies, glancing at me with a smirk. I roll my eyes, eating the last grape in my bowl. "Hm, you're really cute. Are you single?"

"Lucille!"

She put her hands up in defense, "I was just asking for a friend!" I send her a glare. "You can't hog all the cute guys."

"Go away, Luce." I groan, my cheeks heating with embarrassment. She giggled before she left, shutting the door. "I'm sorry about her, she does this a lot."

Nicholas just smiles, "no, it's fine. I think your siblings are cool. Don't you have 4 though?"

I nod,  pursing my lips for a moment. "Yeah, my other sister comes home later because she's in collage."

"Oh."

I hum, glancing at my phone that vibrated. It was just a message from Anthony, so I shrugged it off.

As the afternoon went on, Nicholas and I just talked while the TV playing in the background. We didn't talk about anything in particular, just let the conversation carry on until my mom knocked on the door, telling us that dinner was ready.

I slid into my seat, looking down at the large slice of steaming lasagna on my plate. I loved my mom's lasagna, but I hated how much carbs and such was in it.

I only took a few small bites, listening to Gabrielle talk about wanting to get back with that Luke guy that cheated on her.

Everyone's attention was on her, so no one noticed me not eating. I already weight 115, I don't need to gain anymore.

"So, Nicholas." Gabby started, eyeing him. He looks up at me sister, pursing his lips into a thin line. "Are you single?"

I sigh, slapping my palm against my forehead. "Would you not. Its illegal for you to even be hitting on him, Gab."

"I wasn't asking for me." She spoke, sending me a wink. My jaw drops, my eyes shifting to Lucille, who just grins innocently. "So, are you Nicholas?"

Nicholas swallows the food in his throat, "sorta, yeah."

"Hm interesting." Gabrielle comments, poking at the food. "Are you interested in dating anyone?"

"Gabby." My mom scolds, giving her a look. "Stop bothering him and let him eat."

I stiffle a laugh, causing Gabby to just glare at me,  flicking me off once my parents weren't looking. I poke some of the salad on the side, slowly placing it into my mouth.

Everyone was already done by the time I finished the small amount of salad I put on my plate, only a few bites out of my lasagna gone. They were all just talking, waiting for me to finish

"Will, hurry up." Rose groaned, poking agressively at her salad since my mom didn't allow her to have more lasagna. "You take forever!"

"I'm just not hungry." I mumbled, pushing around my food, sinking into my seat from all eyes on me.  I glance up at my mom, who was sending me a 'this is why your dad and I think you have an eating problem' look. "Can I finish this later."

She sighs and nods, standing from the table.

I quickly put the plate in the microwave, dashing up to my room with Nick.

"Sorry I took so long to eat." I mutter, clearing my throat, the lasagna rising from my stomach. I felt like I was shaking as I fought the urge to just purge the meal.

Nicholas shrugs it off with a casual smile displayed. "It's okay." I bite the skin on  my chapped lips, rubbing my hands slowly together. "Are you okay? You seem anxious."

I glance up at him, gulping, "uh, yeah."

"You sure? You seem-"

"I said I'm fine."
