26 - Halloween Candy
Chasing Charming ✔️
I felt giddy. Today was the day that I would finally do it, no matter what. It was my favourite holiday, I was feeling a bit back to normal, and nothing was going to go wrong at this party tonight. If I just willed that into existence, it would have to be true.
I was going to kiss Eli, and we were going to become something officially.
Even if I had thrown out my list, I didn't need it. This was no longer because of some dumb list; this was about showing Eli how I really feel.
"You're a bit excited this morning," said my mom as she grabbed her extra pair of scrubs.
"She's always excited on Halloween," my dad shouted from the kitchen where he was currently making breakfast.
My mom kissed the side of my head and shot out the door. She was always running to get to her shift in time.
A big plate of pancakes was placed in front of me. They smelled delicious.
"Are you on your way out too?" I asked my dad. Of course, there had been Halloween's that we haven't spent time together, with mom being a nurse and all, but I had always had Carla's family.
"Yes, actually, why don't you come with me for a bit? We are handing out candy at the store starting at 11! I guess the strip mall does an event for the kids in the area."
That sounded like a great way to spend my day. Then I would at least get to spend it with someone. Since we had gotten a bit distracted last night, Eli and Brodie needed to spend the morning setting up the rest of the house. Taylor and Owen were also busy because they had an event with the daycare that worked on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I could have gone to help Eli, but I have a feeling I would be just a bit of a distraction for them and either way, this sounded like much more fun.
"I'll get my costume!" I said, stuffing my face with pancakes before rushing upstairs to put something together.
My dad was the same thing every year, an inventor. So maybe I would stick with the theme and be the inventor's daughter. Or in the case of clarity, Belle from Beauty and The Beast.
I did have a dress that worked as her village outfit, and with my massive clothing collection, I also had a fair amount of wigs.
My phone buzzed with a message from my dad.
Thirty Minutes
I grinned at myself in the mirror. I could do this in thirty minutes.
The makeup and the wig took me twenty-five minutes, but to get the costume on, it only took three minutes. I was down the stairs with one minute to save.
"Oh, Betty, I love it!" Said my dad, who looked charming as ever in his Maurice costume.
I was glad that the kids at his store did too, though I was a lot less helpful with handing out candy since we had essentially set up a photo station for the children to get a photo with the princess.
Of course, my dad was raving about the photos and the business that having a princess brought into his store, and I was happy to do it. Even though I had a different princess fantasy planned for tonight (one that included a handsome prince), it was nice to live out.
After packing up, we left the store to my dad's manager and headed home so I could go to Taylor's and start getting ready for the party.
---
I walked into the twin's house at 5 PM and was greeted by the smell of homemade soup and Owen, standing in the kitchen with a trident.
"Fish stew?"
"Haha. No, it's tomato cheddar, and it's delicious, but maybe now I won't give you any." Owen said, scowling at me.
I pouted, and he shook his head.
"Taylor!" I called out, running up to her bedroom.
"Don't you mean Elsa?" Taylor said, coming out of her bedroom, with her hair in a loose braid.
She looked good. I grinned at her. "You ready to have a great night?"
"And an even better morning." She said, winking at me. We ran back downstairs.
All of our parents had okayed us sleeping over at Eli's after the party. I am sure that they assumed that Taylor and I would be sharing a room, but Taylor and I had different ideas. I luckily had no one to sneak by, but Taylor had Owen, who was not going to be happy with our hopeful arrangements.
I grabbed a piece of candy off of their counter but had it ripped out of my hand. Owen shoved two bowls of soup and a bit of bread in front of each of us.
I glared at him; I love Halloween candy.
"No. You have to eat before you two go drinking again. I want full bellies and lots of bread in you before you drink OR get a sugar high." I looked over at Taylor, who was looking a bit sheepish. Maybe she did end up throwing up in Eli's car.
"I have already eaten a lot of candy today," I said, but I happily dipped my bread in my soup.
"So, Betty, you and Eli. You going to fuck him tonight?" asked Owen.
I choked. Owen could be so crude.
"Owen! She hasn't even kissed him yet!"
Owen chuckled, "I know I just wanted to see her reaction. Nice to see that some girls are good," he said, glaring at his sister.
I enjoyed the show of Taylor chasing Owen around the kitchen with his pitchfork while I finished my meal and then got to enjoy some Halloween candy without interruption.
---
It was almost six by the time Taylor and I started working on makeup, and our phones were buzzing because Owen was bored in the living room and wanted to get going.
I told him just to start drinking, and I would drive us all over. We were all planning on drinking tonight because we were staying over, but I wanted a nice clear head, and I hope Eli kept one too.
I have to say, our looks were perfect by the time we finished. Taylor and I both went a little less slutty and a little more, 'I will win this costume contest.' We tried to look accurate while still being hot.
"You ladies ready to go? We said we would be there fifteen minutes ago!" said an angry-looking fish-man standing by the front door, holding his sleepover bag.
"Cinderella is always a little late to the ball." Taylor followed me, laughing, out the door.
It took a little under twenty minutes to drive to Eli's house. Most people wouldn't be arriving for another hour or so, so even though we were late, we were still early for the party.
I parked my car in front of the garage like Eli had instructed us to, and we made our way into the giant house.
"Holy shit!"
We turned to see Jones, looking very good dressed as Aladdin. Taylor blushed, and I smiled at him.
"You girls look good!" He said, regaining his composure.
"You don't look too bad yourself," said Taylor with a cheeky grin, taking him into the room over.
"Did someone say looking good!" screamed Kyle, running into the front room.
It took us a few minutes to stop laughing after seeing the getup that Kyle had gotten himself into because he really went for it. What a beautiful Belle. Maybe I should have had him dress up as Belle and hand candy out at my dad's store, but it may have driven away more business than it would gain.
"Ooo what a handsome man," he said, turning his sites toward Owen. "Do you want to be my Beast?" Kyle had an evil glint in his eye as he crept towards Owen.
"I'm going to have to take a hard pass there," Owen replied, however, Kyle had already set his sites on the poor king and Owen had to run for it.
I thought I was alone until I heard someone clear their throat at the top of the stairs. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Eli. Hair slicked back, grinning, dressed as Prince Charming. I almost swooned.
He rushed down the stairs, grabbing me with one arm. "You look amazing, Cinderella."
I wanted to have a smooth reply like Taylor did, but like I always did, I blushed back at him. "Thank you," I managed to whisper back.
Standing here, this was probably the perfect moment. The fairytale first kiss I had always been looking for. However, it was stolen from me when a flash went off, blinding both of us. We had been so caught up in the moment that Eli almost dropped me, as I had leaned back so far that he was holding most of my body weight with just one arm.
"Sorry!" said Amber. "It was just too cute! I had to take a picture! Almost like a movie!"
She was so happy with herself that I couldn't take any part of that away, so I grinned back at her! "Can I see?"
The picture was perfect, but I might have rather had the moment.
"I'm out for the night, meeting your dad downtown, so you kids have fun. Don't destroy the house!" She said, hugging me and patting Eli on the cheek before strutting out the door.
The door slammed, and Eli looked down at me, the magical moment over. "Do you want a drink?"
I nodded, "Yeah, did you make punch?"
He grinned, "Yep! With lots of vodka."
We went into the kitchen, where we found Brodie with five other boys that I had never seen before, all wearing the same basketball uniform.
"Oh my god, Brodie, are you dressed as Troy Bolton?" I asked him, giggling.
He spun around in his chair. "Damn, Betty! You look hot!"
"Hey! Only I can say that!" growled Eli.
"I don't see no ring on her finger, have you ever asked her out yet?!" said Brodie.
Eli glared at him, and I looked down. Nope, Brodie, not yet.
Awkwardly, I changed the subject, looking towards his friends. "Hi, I'm Betty!"
A chorus of hi's was said back to me before I was spun around by Eli. He handed me a solo cup filled with a sweet-smelling liquid.
"Now, don't drink the punch once everyone gets here. I guarantee someone will spike it even more."
I took a sip; it was already quite strong.
"Why do you think that?" I asked.
He grinned, "because I was the one who used to do it."
I laughed, "you jackass," I waved bye to Brodie and his friends and excited the kitchen heading to the living room where I could hear music had started.
Eli followed me, "you do look super hot, though." I could feel his hot breath on my neck as he leaned down to let me know his thoughts.
I shivered, and he smirked.
"AWWW, look at you two!" said Taylor, who was drinking a cooler and had perched herself on Aladdin's knee.
I looked over at Owen, who was happily chatting to Kyle, so I guess he didn't mind what was happening in front of him. I was happy that the twins worked out these differences.
---
The first group arrived around forty minutes later, and it didn't take long for more people to arrive until the main floor of Eli's house was completely packed. He blocked off the upstairs and locked the basement, so it was just the outside and the main floor being used... hopefully.
The music had been chosen by Jones surprisingly, and it was a great mix. I couldn't give him too much credit because I am not sure if he made the playlist or just found a good one on Spotify; however, he did do a good job. People were enjoying themselves, and I even got Eli to dance for a song.
I had only had two more drinks after the cooler so that by the end of the night, I hoped that I would be completely sober. I was a little drunk at this point, though, and I was having a ridiculous amount of fun. It didn't seem like Eli had anything to drink, but he seemed to be having a great time.
Except for when people would compliment his house, and he would just awkwardly smile and deflect the conversation somewhere else. But after a few hours, people were either too drunk or having too much fun to keep commenting.
Unlike Eli, Brodie was incredibly drunk by mid-party, and he and his friends took over the dance floor. The girl he had started dating, Kelsey, seemed to know how to let loose because she was dressed as Gabriella and was tearing up the dance floor.
When the music changed, and they did a synchronized dance to We're All in This Together, all of the cell phones came out, and I don't think they realize they will never live this down. I guess they didn't have to worry about that at this party considering that they don't go to the same school as the majority of people here. But knowing Brodie, he also wouldn't care what people think.
The party didn't die down until about 1 PM. Kyle took the time to walk around the house and kick anyone out who didn't belong there. Surprisingly none of us were that tired yet, but it could have been the mix of booze and Halloween candy that got us to this stage.
We all sat in the kitchen, Eli and I, Kyle, Owen, Taylor, Jones and Brodie, wondering what to do with ourselves.
"Movie?" someone asked.
