Part five
Made for međź–¤
Monae's POV
Have you ever been so happy in your life, you think you gonna burst? That's my mood now. I woke up today feeling so happy as I recalled the talk I had with Mr Winchester when he got back from work.
"I didn't get the time to talk to you, how you doing?"
"I'm fine sir." I shyly replied, looking away. He's such a nice man and not a little bit like what I thought of him last night.
"I'm pleased to hear that, where are your family? They shouldn't have left you all by yourself alone at that time. Don't they care?"
"I don't have any family sir, I'm all alone in this world."
"How?"
I tearfully told him my sad tale, wiping my nose once in a while till I finished it. He got up from his seat and hugged me, pecking my forehead affectionately. "Don't cry anymore my dear, you have a family now. I'm thinking if adopting you into my family. You're beautiful and I know you're intelligent, you can't waste it working when you should be in school. I'm enrolling you into a university around so you get a degree, it's the greatest gift I can ever give you."
"Thank you so much sir, you don't know what this means to me. How can I pay you back?"
"No one is talking about that here, you're my daughter and no father loans his daughter money to go to university." He told me smiling at me.
"Thanks so much sir."
"Monae."
"Sir?"
"Call me Mr Winchester or when you're in a good mood, call me father."
"Okay sir uh I mean Mr Winchester." I shyly said wiping away tears. Less than 48 hours ago I sat questioning God and demanding from him a helper. He did just that sending an angel like him my way. I can never repay him, the only thing I can do is serve, respect him and revere him as my father and guardian all in one. I'll stay no matter what and make him proud of me.
"Good girl now go to sleep. Goodnight." I got up from my seat and left after wishing him goodnight alone in his study.
Squealing, I got off the bed, heading to the bathroom to perform my morning ritual. I need to set an alarm now that I'm going to stay here, waking up late and infuriating the lady of the house is no way in my plans. She doesn't like me and I don't want to give her more reasons to hate me or even kick me out of this house.
I'm wearing a baggy dress this time around because of yesterday's incident with Mrs Winchester. I can't have her thinking I want to seduce her already perverted son or flaunt my body in front of her daughter.
My happiness was so evident on my face even when I went into the kitchen. Roxie stared at me with a smile on her face as she removed the milk bottle from the refrigerator. "I can see someone is happy."
"Yeah I am! I have a very good reason to be so." I said with a bright smile on my face.
"Fill me in my dear, I also want to share in it."
"Just between the two of us, Mr Winchester has accepted me to live in this house, adopt me and to send me to school as well!" I almost yelled in excitement throwing my arms around her and pulled her into a hug.
"No way! Dad cannot do that." A different voice said from behind us, disappointment was dripping in her tone. I know what voice very well, it hardly speaks to me but i know how high pitched and annoying it is.
Roxie rolled her eyes, going back to preparing breakfast. I also turned back to face her.
Imogen stood beside the island at the center of the kitchen with her hands crossed on her chest in anger and looking down at me with a disgusted face.
She was wearing the same clothes from yesterday and judging my her messy hair and appearance, I can conclude she was now coming after leaving the house the previous day.
"Why will father adopt a black girl he hardly knows and worse send her to school." The scowl on her face wasn't helping her appearance.
Racist much? "I'm not Mr Winchester to know." I replied her, shrugging my shoulders. She's seeking answers from the wrong person. I only said what I was told and she wasn't supposed to hear cause I wasn't telling her.
"I'm Monae, by the way that's gossiping." I said with a smirk.
She looked me up and down, her face still contorted in disgust. "So you can talk."
"I'm human besides I'm not dumb, I told y'all my name yesterday." I hate the look she's giving me and I'm not going to give her the satisfaction of ridiculing me with both her words and look.
"Monae please help me out here with the strawberries will you?"
"Sure Rox." I backed away from her, going to the fruit basket.
Imogen's facial expression changed from anger and disgust to surprise before she quickly masked it with a haughty look, "I'll be back for you."
"And I'll be waiting for you." I smiled sweetly at her to irk her more to which she huffed and left the kitchen glaring daggers at me with her eyes.
I turned to Roxie, "what's her problem? Is she this racist?
"I wish I knew my dear. The sweet and kind little girl I took care of as my own is gone and has been replaced with this stranger that I'm still wrapping my head around to know."
The sadness wasn't missed in her voice and the solemn expression on her face kinda hurt me.
I know hard and painful it is seeing someone you knew for a long time change into a total stranger, wondering what really happened.
I sighed, placing my finger on her shoulder. "She's going to come around and be your sweet little girl again."
She shook her head, "with the type of friends she has I have lost all hope and I don't think that's going to be possible. All she cares about now is partying, going to night clubs, having multiple casual sex relations and doing drugs. She's wasting the certificate she felt so happy on getting."
"Does she always stay out?"
"Yeah and it's not the nicest seeing her when she gets back. We're in luck today, we've been spared of seeing her wasted, smelling and behaving badly."
Smelling and behaving badly. My mimd drifted off to bitter memories when she said that causing me to tense up, I can relate to what she said.
Not wanting to relive them, I brushed them away, pushing them deep down and forced her a smile. I have to lighten the mood, the atmosphere was too tense and sorrowful. "Lets forget about her and before we were interrupted, I'm so happy Rox! I'm going to live in this house with you."
"I'm happier than you are you know, I finally have someone I can share gossip with, tell my tales to and a partner around the house. It get so lonely when they're all out and even when they're in no one wants to hang around with me except Mr Winchester. The rest avoid me like a plague, they say I'm uncool and lowly, even my little girl." She brushed stray tears from her eyes, giving me a sad smile.
My heart broke at what she said and her tears too. No one deserve to be neglected even if they don't fit in our circle and her tales are fascinating and hilarious. She's a very cool company, a big contrast to what they said of her.
No wonder Imogen has gone astray. She has veered from the right track which is Roxie who influenced her positively and now finds pleasure in negative stuffs that not only taints the body but the soul too.
I hugged Roxie, stroking her hair before kissing her forehead and looked at her face. "Don't worry, I'm here for you now and I'll always be with you and listen to all your tales. You'll hardly get lonely and to make you smile, I actually enjoy your company."
I pinched the bridge of ber nose making her smile. "Thank you Monae, you don't how much your words means to me."
"You're welcome Rox, now how about you wipe those tears from your face and we get down to fixing breakfast? The family will be down any minute and breakfast isn't ready."
She wiped her eyes with her apron and smiled, "I kinda got carried away for a sec but I'll finish soon, I only need to prepare the pancakes."
"How can I be useful here aside these strawberries and blueberries?"
"Dice the strawberries and wash the blueberries, when you're done prepare the tea."
"Oh-kayy." I instantly got down to business, applying my culinary skills as I dealt with the strawberries.
Breakfast is ready and the smell of Roxie's mouthwatering and appetizing pancakes is in the air. Its invading my nose pleasantly and making me more hungrier than I am as I entered the kitchen.
My stomach keeps growling at the sight of the pancakes. I couldn't eat breakfast because Mrs Winchester called for me upstairs.
She didn't allow me inside her room and only talked to me outside of it, demanding to know if breakfast was ready and if it was, I should go into his son's room and wake him up.
I didn't see any rational in that errand, he's a grown ass man and doesn't need anyone waking him up but guess what? Mr perv was sound asleep and snoring loudly with his mouth open. The gross part was he was drooling, ewww. I pity whoever removes his sheet and cleans his room.
"I'm back." I announced my arrival to Roxie who was removing plates to set the table in the dining room.
"You didn't keep long."
"Yeah she didn't need me for anything except to ask if breakfast was ready and wake Rex up in his room." I told her, taking a plate of pancakes that Roxie specially made for me, it was extra creamy and too sweet and with the chocolate syrup on them, I'm sure to test positive for diabetes soon.
"Did he give you a hard time?"
"Not really." I didn't bother waking him up with my hands, I sprinkled water to get him up after be refused to wake up when I called him. "By the way who cleans his room?"
"Anita Diaz why?"
"I feel for her, Rex was drooling and it totally grossed me out."
"Haha, its no news. Anita is already used to it by now though she still complains."
"Roxie!" Mrs Winchster calling out for Roxie sent her out of the kitchen leaving me by myself. I couldn't eat without her so I waited and drank orange juice to relax my growling stomach.
