Chapter 241
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 241
Dylan did not notice the change in Melanieâs mood at all. She hugged her daughter and sobbed uncontrollably.
The blood in Melanieâs body ran cold. She kept repeating Dylanâs words in her head.
Melanie had lost a lot of weight these days, and she looked haggard. If Dylan squeezed her a little more tightly, she might just fall to pieces.
More and more employees gathered around the office. Melanie looked up at them numbly. The surprise, pity, sympathy, contempt, and derision in their eyes all mixed together, as if they were judging her and skinning her alive.
When she saw that pair of dark and cold eyes, Melanie was stunned. Eugene said coldly, âThis is the office, not your house.â
Melanieâs eyelashes fluttered. She wanted to say something, but her throat felt like it was being strangled. She could not say a word.
âThis is the office, Ms. Lancaster,â Viola said sincerely. âI understand how you feel now, but please calm down. If you have anything to say, talk to Melanie nicely. After all, youâre her mother!â She seemed to be taking Melanieâs side, but her words inadvertently revealed her relationship with Dylan.
Melanie closed her eyes. After a long time, she said hoarsely, âDylan Lancaster, are you blackmailing me now? Will you come here every day if I donât agree?â
âIâ¦â Dylanâs grip on Melanie stiffened, but she soon recovered. She stammered, âMel, youâre still Peachieâs sister. Even if you donât care about me, at least think about her. Sheâs so sick! What if something happens to her?â
Dylan looked at Melanie eagerly. âI just want to ask your grandfather for a favor. Itâs nothing, really. Zaffino was his student, right? He just has to say the word, and George will be fine.
âReally, Mel, I just want him to do me this one favor.â
Melanieâs pentâup anger grew. Perhaps it was the looks from the people around her that embarrassed her. She did not know where she found the strength to force Dylanâs hands off her body. Her voice trembled imperceptibly as she said, âIâll take you back to Hearth City.â
She took out her phone to call for a cab when Dylan suddenly fell to her knees, wailing, âI know youâre doing well now! Thatâs why you think Iâm useless and embarrassing, right? You also resent me for not taking good care of you back then, so you want me to leave!
âBut Mel, I canât leave! Your sister is still sick. If George is injured now, Iâll be doomed! If you blame me for letting you down, Iâll ha[pily beg for your forgiveness!â
Dylan was so fast that Melanie did not even have time to react. She could only watch helplessly as Dylan knelt and put on her oneâwoman pity party.
Yana had always been by Melanieâs side. She was also taken aback by Dylanâs actions, but she reacted quickly and reached out to pull Dylan back onto her feet.
However, before she could touch Dylan, Eugene said frostily, âCall the cops and get them to deal with it.â

The employees who had gathered to watch the commotion quickly dispersed when they heard the cold rage in Eugeneâs voice.
Viola looked at Melanie, then her gaze fell on Dylan, who was kneeling on the ground. She sighed lightly. âWhy do you have to do this, Eugene? This woman is Melanieâs mother, after all. Donât get the cops involved.â
Melanie came back to her senses. She looked at Dylan, who was kneeling on the ground, and she clenched her hands into fists. The next second, she yanked Dylan back to her feet, growling, âGet up. I said, get up!â
âDoes that mean youâll help me? Mommyâs begging you.â Dylan held Melanieâs hand so tightly that she stumbled.
âI donât want to see you at the office until youâve taken care of your family business.â The cold voice behind her made Melanie flinch.
She slowly let go of Dylanâs hand and looked back at Eugene. The latterâs face was cold, and his dark eyes were fathomless.
Melanie looked at him for a long moment before she felt strong enough to speak. âAre you suspending me?â she asked.
