Chapter 246
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 246
The corners of Melanieâs lips moved slightly. They were not asking her to cooperate. They were looking to force a confession out of her.
What was the âwhole storyâ that these people kept asking for?
Her heart was numb as she slowly raised her eyes to look at Eugene. These people would not have been able to hire this soâcalled publicist without his approval.
Still, didnât he know all about Dylan?
âMelanie,â Viola said again. She was sitting right next to Eugene, and she saw the look
Melanie had just given Eugene.
Viola looked troubled. âMelanie, I know itâs embarrassing for you to say those things, but the companyâs reputation is now affected because of you. We have to resolve this matter quickly, wouldnât you think?â
After saying that, she paused and said, âHow about this? Iâll tell the story for you. If you think thereâs something wrong with my version, you can just correct me. Okay?â
Melanie did not reply. If she agreed, all her dirty laundry would be made public.
She did not want that.
She could not stand the pitying looks people gave her.
Melanie still remembered that time when her parents first got divorced. Her usually kind neighbors gossiped about her future over dinner.
She could not forget their tone of pity when they gave her some food because her mother had forgotten about her. They sounded like they were feeding a stray dog.
Melanie had always thought that as long as she was obedient enough, her parents would not abandon her.
The same went for Eugene.
She thought that as long as she was obedient enough, everything would be fine.
Children who had been abandoned would always feel that they were not good enough.
âIf you refuse to say anything, thereâs actually a simpler way to settle this.â Jenson tapped his fingers against the table.
Melanie looked up, coming back to the present.
âAll you have to do, Ms. Smith, is admit that youâre not an employee of LeapCo. Announce that you have nothing to do with us.â
As soon as Jenson said this, the office fell silent.
Melanie looked at him. Jenson tapped the folder on his desk with his pen and said, âThis is the best way to disassociate yourself from LeapCo.â
Yanaâs brow furrowed, âBut Melanie is LeapCoâs chief secretary. Everyone knows that.â
âThen tell everyone she resigned ages ago.â

âIsnât that a bad idea?â Viola chipped in. She glanced at Melanie before saying, âEven though Melanie is about to leave LeapCo, this isnât going to work, is it?â
She did not sound very confident, but the deliberate hesitation in her tone made her sound like she was considering the possibility.
Finally, Viola looked at Eugene. âMr. Scott, what do you think should be done about this?â
Eugene had not commented. Now he shifted his gaze to Melanie, his deep eyes unreadable.
He looked at Melanieâs upright body and said in a neutral tone, âYou should ask her what she thinks.
âI donât like to lie, but LeapCo isnât a charity.â
He stared at Melanie expressionlessly, his tone cold. âMelanie, decide.â
