Chapter 542
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 542
Viciousness flashed across Xavierâs narrowed eyes. He turned his gaze to Xander and said arrogantly, âBack then, you boldly cut ties with the family, but now, youâre back. Did you come crawling back because you couldnât survive on your own outside?â
His open provocation made Melanie uncomfortable. She looked up at Xander, who spoke in an even colder voice.
âSays the boy who hasnât been acknowledged by the family even now.â
Xavier turned red in the face. He glared at Xander and gritted his teeth. âXander, donât think youâre all that. Sooner or later, the family fortune will be mine!â
After Yury escorted Xavier out, Liana started to feel a little tired, so Melanie and Xander quickly excused themselves.
Melanie did not ask Xander a word about Xavier even after they left the hospital.
Xander was also silent. He did not seem keen to explain.
On the way back, Henry Scott called Melanie to ask her out for dinner. Melanie declined because she was working.
It was not just an excuse, either. Burning Star was swamped recently between the departmentâs project and their collaboration with Blue Inc.
According to the contract between LeapCo and Burning Star, LeapCo was to make the payments in installments and check on the projectâs progress regularly.
However, due to LeapCoâs recent internal problems, the transfer had been delayed by a week.
Oliver rushed them several times, but they insisted that they did not have the time to deal with the matter for the time being.
âThey donât have the time? Theyâre delaying things on purpose if you ask me!â Oliver sat on the sofa, furious. âThat batch of materials has a short shelf life, plus the temperature and lighting have to be perfect for the optimal effects. If we miss the window, the effect wonât be anywhere near as good.
âAfter tha
I use that as another reason to say that our work is not up to their standards.
Melanie had just come out of the study when she heard Oliverâs rant. âLeapCo hasnât wired the money yet?â she asked. âWhat did Lee say?â
âForget it, I could barely reach Lee at all. I finally managed to get a hold of him this morning, but he directed me to someone else before I could get a word in.â
Melanie knew that LeapCo was in a mess right now because of the leak. No wonder they had different priorities at a time like this.
After a moment of silence, she said, âIâll try contacting them again.â
She wasted no time. Melanie went back to the study and called Lee.
The phone rang for a long time, but no one picked up. Melanie did not call again. Instead, she
sent Lee a message asking him to contact her when he saw it.
LeapCo was just as chaotic as Melanie thought. Everyone in the company had been working overtime for four consecutive days now.
In the CEOâs office, Simon sat on the sofa and said angrily, âI have to come to your office to talk to you these days, huh?â
Eugene did not even look up. He was still looking at the document in his hand. âJust say what you want to say.â
âTsk. I rushed here to give you good news. You should at least show me some appreciation.â
Eugene said nothing.
Simon cursed inwardly and huffed. âYou can relax. Rockwaterâs collaboration with the Qaisas will probably fall through.â
Eugene paused and looked up at Simon. Simon lowered his voice and said, âThe internal strife among the Qaisas is too destructive. Their patriarch is already in the hospital. Bernard Qaisa canât stand up to Matthew Smith at all. Heâs a right mess himself, so you can rest assured.â
Simon sighed. âItâs only been a few years since Matthew joined the family. Heâs really ruthless. Why donât you forget about Bernard and contact Matthew instead?
âMaybe the entire Qaisa fortune will be his someday.â
