Chapter 571
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 571
Cedric was furious. On the other hand, Eugene calmly just said, âUnderstood,â before hanging up the phone. Henry raised a brow and asked, âYour father?â Eugene was noncommittal and the old man snorted, âHe sure knows how to put on airs, he thinks Iâm already dead.â
Eugene did not say anything, quietly accompanying the old man as they finished their meal. After the old man was done eating, he went straight back to his room. However, as he passed by Eugene, he paused for a moment and said in a low voice, âI was too busy with work before and didnât educate your father well. Heâs a muddled man. You shouldnât follow his example.â
Eugeneâs gaze lowered, deep emotions flickering in the depths of his profound gaze, emotions he did not want others to see.
The next morning, Cedric called early, reminding Eugene to come over. After calmly ending the call, Eugene slid his finger down the screen and his gaze lingered on Melanieâs contact.
Eugene rarely saved his family membersâ numbers on his personal phone. He preferred to commit the numbers of people close to him to memory rather than saving them in the contacts. It was a habit Cedric had instilled in him when he took over the Scott family business. He was always wary of those around him, a habit that Eugene himself had also absorbed to some extent.
Eugene had remembered Melanieâs number for several years and could recognize it at a glance. His fingertips paused on the string of digits. There was a subtle furrow on his brow but it quickly relaxed. When he lifted his head again, his eyes had regained their clarity.
He drove out, not heading to LeapCo as one would expect, but back to Cedricâs place. Entering the residence, he found Stella and Cedric having breakfast. The table was quiet, with Stella reading a magazine and Cedric reading a newspaper. The atmosphere seemed as if they were two strangers casually sharing a table.
Eugene cast a cold glance at them, then focused his gaze directly on Cedric. âI have a client meeting at noon. If you have something to say, say it now,â he said directly in a cold voice.
Cedric tossed the newspaper onto the table and directed his hawkâlike eyes at Eugene. After a moment, he stood up with displeasure and said, âIs this how you talk to me?â
Standing tall, Eugene faced Cedric across the dining table, their gazes locked. Eugene inherited some of Stellaâs looks, but the cold and stern expression in his

eyes mirrored Cedricâs.
Neither yielded to the other.
Irritated, Stella pushed away her halfâeaten croissant and complained, âCanât you two discuss your matters elsewhere? Do you have to disturb peopleâs meals? Why donât you go to the study?â
âCome in,â Cedric said in a deep voice. Eugene followed him into the study. The place exuded a heavy, oldâfashioned atmosphere with its coldâtoned decor and piles of documents, creating a strong sense of oppression.
The moment Eugene entered the study, he heard Cedric lower his voice even more and coldly reprimand him, âIf you still want to enter headquarters, start paying attention to it yourself.
âThe Hel family is getting restless,â Cedric spoke with his eyes fixed on Eugene. Accustomed to a position of authority, he always carried an oppressive tone that made his words feel like a command.
Eugene raised a brow in return. âIs that the reason you summoned me?â
Cedric narrowed his eyes, waiting for the second half of his sentence.
Eugene smirked sarcastically. âAre you starting to feel your control slip away now that the familyâs influence is growing?â
âShouldnât you have thought about these things when you kicked me out of the headquarters and welcomed the Hel family in?â Eugeneâs tone was indifferent and even, as if he were discussing something unrelated to himself.
