Chapter 647
The Unfaithful Mr. Scott ( Melanie Smith )
Chapter 647
His tone was uncertain, and he waited patiently for her answer.
Melanie was a little hesitant. She looked at the hospitalization bracelet on her wrist. The doctor said that it would be best for her to stay in the hospital for a couple of days to recuperate before being discharged. Eugene had already completed the hospitalization procedures for her.
There was also the matter of Redwaves and Howard, who was like a time bomb. Everything was in a mess. She did not know how to tell Xander.
She was the one who had done nothing wrong.
It was Xander himself who sensed that something was wrong. His tone was a little more patient as he asked Melanie in a low voice, âDid something happen?â
Melanie sighed. âXander, I seem to have let you down.â
She told Xander briefly about Harvey, Viola, and Howard, but she kept the fact that she was in the hospital a secret. It was as if she was deliberately making excuses for herself.
Xander was surprised to hear that Viola had become Harveyâs assistant. She still seemed to hold a grudge against Melanie, too.
He pondered for a moment before comforting her. âDonât worry too much. Viola is just an assistant, so she canât interfere too much. As for your father and Mathew, hopefully youâre just overthinking
things.
âEither way, it doesnât matter. Iâm flying in tomorrow morning. Weâll talk about it when I get here. Get some rest tonight.â
Xanderâs voice was low and magnetic. When he spoke slowly like this, it was very comforting.
Melanie nodded. She also knew that it was useless to think too much, but she could not help but worry about whether she would cause trouble for Xander.
It had always been Melanieâs habit since she was a child. She was always afraid of causing trouble to
others.
Xander said softly, âYouâre so anxious that it makes me feel like Iâm being too harsh on you. Why donât I get Reny to make you a guide to the touristy sites around Oskon City so you can relax first?â
Melanie could hear the deliberate teasing in his tone. She bit back a smile. âOkay, sure. We can go to those places together when you get here and check out those places in advance. That way, we can plan the teamâbuilding exercises and-â
Halfway through her sentence, the door of the ward suddenly opened. Eugene walked in expressionlessly with two bottles of water in his hand. After placing them on the table, he said coldly to Melanie, âDo you want to take a shower or just wash up simply?â

Melanieâs eyes widened and she quickly cut off the call with Xander before asking, Eugene, âDonât you knock before you come in?â
Eugene glanced at her phone, his lips curling up mockingly. âAm I disturbing you?â
Melanie did not know what he was so upset about. She held the phone and suppressed her anger, â Weâre done eating. You can leave now.â
Eugeneâs face was expressionless. âThe doctor said itâs best if you have someone to accompany you right now. We donât want anything to happen while no one else is around.â
Melanie frowned. âIâll ring for a nurse if that happens.â
Eugene was so angry that he burst out laughing. He looked down at Melanie and said, âDo you want everyone to call me a heartless monster, Melanie Smith?â
Melanie met his gaze directly. âIf anyone says that, Iâll explain.â
âWho would believe you?â Eugene said. He took off his jacket and threw it on the sofa, saying coldly, â Donât be so thorny. Iâll leave tomorrow morning.â
His attitude was firm, and Melanie knew that nothing she said would change his mind. The doctor had just reminded her not to get agitated again, so she simply took her phone and sent Xander a text message to apologize for suddenly hanging up.
Xander replied almost instantly. [Are you busy?]
Melanie looked at the words. Xander must have heard Eugeneâs voice just now. She rubbed her temples, and finally told Xander everything that had happened that day â including the fact that she was in the hospital now, and Eugene was with her because of the doctorâs orders.
