Not Bullet Proof
What Happens at the CCPD
Captain Singh sighed and looked around for his CSI. "Where the hell is Allen?" he asked to no one in particular.
Barry ran towards the crime scene. "Sorry I'm late Captain. I just-" Barry struggled to think of an excuse. In reality, he had a very good excuse, stopping a robbery and all, but he couldn't tell his boss that.
Singh was so close to firing his CSI, even though he knew he never would. "Just get to work Allen."
"Yes sir." Barry said.
Singh sighed, most of the officers had cleared out for lunch, and he wanted to eat too. But his work wasn't done yet. He tapped his foot impatiently.
Barry got up, "So, judging by the scrapes on the front of the victim's body and the large bruise on his back, I would say he was first hit with a car and knocked down. From there, he was shot in the back at close range. The shooter had to have been about three feet away standing about... here." (A/N- If you couldn't tell I have no clue what I'm talking about)Â He stood at the spot and noticed something on the ground. "Ah ha. It would appear our shooter left us a little gift." He carefully picked up a clumpy hairball that probably belonged in a hair brush. "Gross."
Singh gave a small smile at his comment. Apparently, hairballs grossed him out.
Barry placed the hair in a bag and turned to his boss, "Are there any suspects?"
"Not any yet," Singh answered, "West is going through that at the station."
Barry nodded. He heard tires squealing and looked up. A black truck was racing towards the scene, and it didn't look like it was gonna stop.
Singh pulled out his gun and started shouting orders to the one other cop that was there.
The window of the truck rolled down, and the man inside started shooting. Barry saw it all in slow motion.
There were two bullets headed directly towards Singh.
Barry ran.
Singh, who was shouting an order to the other officer at the site, failed to notice the bullets heading towards him until way too late. But the next thing he knew he was being shoved aside and he watched the truck drive off.
Singh shook his head, wondering who saved him, and turned to see his CSI. He turned and saw Barry laying on the ground with a bullet wound in his chest.
Singh's eyes widened in horror, "Allen!" He shouted and rushed to his fallen comrade.
He pulled out his phone to call 911. Barry noticed and weakly grabbed his arm. "Allen, I need to call an ambulance, let go." Singh said.
Barry shook his head. "No. C-call STAR labs." he gasped.
"Allen, no. You need to get to a hospital!"
Barry stubbornly shook his head, "STAR labs," he insisted.
Singh made a split second decision and dialed Caitlin Snow's number, which he had gotten when Barry was in a coma. He shouted to the other officer, "Walsh! Call West!"
He turned back to Barry and put his hand on the wound to attempt to slow the blood flow.
Caitlin picked up, "Hello?"
"Dr. Snow!" Singh yelled, "Allen's been shot. We are on 22nd Boulevard, and he insisted I call you. I- I don't know why."
"Alright. You did the right thing. Keep pressure on the wound and keep him awake. I'm on my way. How's his pulse?"
Singh tucked the phone between his shoulder and ear and found Allen's pulse. "It's slow." He said.
Caitlin cursed, which made Singh worry more. "I'll be there as fast as I can."
She hung up. Singh tossed his phone on the ground and put more pressure on the wound. "Hey Allen. Can you hear me?" he asked, trying to stay calm.
Barry gave a small nod.
"Okay. I need you to keep your eyes open. Alright?" Singh said.
Barry nodded, but his eyes drooped anyway. It took so much energy to keep them open. And he was really tired. And it hurt to breathe.
Singh saw Barry's eyes droop. "Stay awake Barry! Okay? Stay awake." Captain Singh was saying frantically. He put pressure on the wound, but the bleeding refused to slow.
Barry started drifting off.
"No! Allen. Stay awake damn it!" Singh was terrified. Barry closed his eyes, "Barry! Open your eyes! Barry!"
Barry didn't respond, and Singh fought back tears as he checked for a pulse. It was even slower than before. He was terrified for Barry's life. Barry was just a kid, he couldn't die.
"Damn it kid! Why'd you do that? Why'd you take that god damn bullet for me?" Singh said.
The STAR labs van pulled up. The Latino boy jumped out of the driver's seat and Caitlin came out of the back.
She saw them and her heart practically stopped. "Oh god," she whispered, "Barry!" she ran over. She checked for his pulse and cursed when she couldn't find one. "Cisco get the crash cart!"
Cisco ran over with the crash cart. Singh stood back as she got defibrillators out. 'Why the hell do they have defibrillators in their van?' he thought.
He heard Caitlin say to charge it, "Clear!" she shouted. Barry's body jolted, but still no pulse. Caitlin told Cisco to charge it to a dangerously high number.
"What?" Singh asked, alarmed.
"Clear!" Barry jolted again, and this time here was a heartbeat. "Oh thank god. Cisco! Help me get him in the van!"
Singh ran forward and helped them. "I'm coming with you." he said.
Caitlin and Cisco shared a look, that did not go unnoticed by Captain Singh. "Sure." Caitlin said.
Singh got into the passenger's side while Cisco drove, way over the speed limit. But Singh didn't care. He'd be going over the speed limit too if he were driving. They made it to STAR labs and found Joe already there.
"Barry!" He said as he saw his son being pulled out of the van.
Everything was a blur for Singh. Caitlin rambled off orders and next thing he knew, he was inside and sitting next to Joe.
"David," Joe said, "What happened?"
Singh took a breath, "We were at the crime scene, Allen had just finished his analysis, when a truck sped by and started shooting. There were bullets headed towards me and, I don't know how, but Allen managed to shove me out of the way. But one of the bullets hit him."
Joe shook his head, "Damn it Barry. Why do you have to be so damn noble."
***** LINE BREAK *****
About two hours later, Barry finally started to stir.
Joe had gone back to work, but Singh refused to leave until Barry woke up. He felt responsible.
Barry groaned and Caitlin looked up from her monitors. She rushed over to his side when he tried to sit up.
"Oh no you don't," Caitlin said. "You managed to nearly get yourself killed again, you're not going anywhere."
Singh heard Caitlin talk and realized that Barry was up. He walked over nervously. The two occupants didn't seem to notice him and continued talking.
"Come on Cait, it's not like this is the first time this has happened." Barry said.
"No, but that doesn't make it okay that it keeps happening! You flat lined, Barry. You need to be more careful!" Caitlin yelled.
Singh's eyes widened. "What the hell, Allen?"
Barry and Caitlin froze.
"Oh, hey Captain Singh." Barry said.
Singh narrowed his eyes, "What do you mean this isn't the first time this has happened?"
Caitlin pressed her lips together and looked at Barry, who chuckled nervously.
"Allen..."
"So, funny thing," Barry said, "Um..."
He glanced at Caitlin who gave a small nod, "I don't think you have much of a choice anymore."
Singh frowned. Choice of what?
Barry sighed, "Yeah, so, I'm the Flash. Surprise."
Singh blinked a couple of times.
"You stole my sandwich."
