Chapter 30

Explosion

What Happens at the CCPD

Pre lightning since I know most of y'all like these a lot

Barry jogged into the precinct, only five minutes late, and feeling very proud of himself.

"Wow Bar," Joe said, "You're almost on time. I'm shocked."

Barry grinned and rolled his eyes. "Yeah yeah Joe."

Joe reached to ruffle Barry's hair, but Barry ducked away and darted up to his lab.

Barry was chuckling as he entered his lab, but his laugh was cut short when his least favorite person bustling about inside. Barry sobered up immediately when he saw the short, dark haired man hunched over his desk.

"What do you want Sampson." Barry grit out. 'He shouldn't be in here' Barry thought.

Sampson looked up sharply. "You're earlier than normal," he said, walking towards Barry. "And you know I want you gone."

"I meant was there anything in particular other than your usual, meaningless request that I will continue to ignore since I'm not leaving." Barry clarified.

"You don't deserve to be here," Sampson said, thrusting a finger into Barry's chest, making him lose his balance and stumble a little. He may be shorter than Barry, but he was certainly stronger. "I'm the best CSI here and I don't need some runty runner up to show me up."

"So you're admitting I'm smarter than you?" Barry asked.

Sampson growled and shoved Barry back more, making the younger man fall to the floor.

"You'd better watch it Allen." Sampson said, then stalked out, the sick grin on his face going unnoticed by Barry.

Barry stood up and brushed himself off. He muttered a few choice words about short CSI's and got to work, his good mood spoiled.

Something felt off to Barry as he worked through some evidence of a recent case, but he shrugged it off as after feelings of his encounter with Sampson.

He reached for one of his chemicals, but noticed it was the wrong one and frowned. He was sure that that was where he kept it. He looked lower and grabbed the chemical he needed and poured it into a vial with his evidence. That off felling didn't go away, and he figured out why when the vial in his hand warmed.

Barry hardly had time to think 'crap' before the vial exploded in a bright white light, spraying chemicals on Barry and throwing him into the wall. He was unconscious before he hit the floor.

Singh was talking to Joe, they were chatting over the remarkable fact that Barry had almost been on time.

Singh was heading back into his office when he noticed Sampson walk down the stairs with a smug looking smile on his face. Singh frowned as sat down. He really didn't like Sampson.

He was rude and disrespectful to everyone except his bosses. The only reason he was still on the force was because, until Barry, they hadn't had a CSI as good as him.

Singh sat at his desk, pondering the reasons why Sampson might be looking so smug and becoming increasingly worried as more theories filtered through his head, when he heard a loud explosion.

He stiffened for half a second before bolting out the door.

He saw Joe and Chyre already running up the stairs, guns in their hands. Singh followed them quickly. He felt his heart stop when he came to the source of the explosion.

It was Allen's lab.

And it was destroyed.

There were scorch marks on the walls and floor. Pieces of paper and glass were scattered everywhere. But the worst was Barry himself.

He was hunched against the wall, singed and unconscious.

Joe ran to his son and tapped his cheek.

"Bar. Barry wake up." Joe said.

To everyone's relief, Barry slowly blinked back to consciousness.

"What happened?" Barry mumbled.

"I was hoping you would tell us." Singh said.

Barry blinked some more. He squeezed his eyes shut and then opened then again. He looked around, his brows furrowed in confusion.

"Joe?" Barry murmured, his voice tinted with something akin to fear that made Singh suddenly nervous.

"What Bar?" Joe asked.

Barry's head swiveled around.

"Joe, why can't I see anything?" Barry said, his voice quivering.

Joe looked up at Singh and Chyre with wide eyes. The other two mens' expressions matched.

Barry reached out, trying to find Joe. "Joe why can't I see anything?"

Joe grabbed his son and wrapped him in a hug. Barry clung to Joe tightly, his blank eyes wide.

"Joe why can't I see anything?" Barry whispered.

Joe shook his head, "I don't know son."

Singh sat at his computer, furiously searching for answers.

Barry had been admitted to the hospital barely an hour ago. He had explained to them that he was in his lab doing routine things. He was doing the same thing he had done a hundred times. He told them that his chemical was in the wrong spot for some reason, but he used the right chemical.

But Sigh couldn't help but think 'did he?'. He remembered Sampson's smug look as he came downstairs and the pure hatred he had for the younger forensic assistant. He was sure that Sampson had something to do with it, he just needed to find the evidence.

And he found it.

He found security footage of Sampson the previous night switching around labels and chemicals and files. Singh's blood boiled. It was his fault that Barry was currently blind and may stay that way. Then he saw the footage of him shoving Barry earlier before walking out with a smile. After that he watched Barry go to reach for the mislabeled chemicals and then pour the incorrect one into the vial, creating the explosion.

Singh growled and marched out of his office.

Sampson was so going to jail.
