Chapter 42
Alpha Loren Book 4
LUCIANO
âYou offered him your help?â Andrea asked.
âYes,â I replied.
âAnd was he suspicious?â
âAs expected,â I said with a nod.
Andreaâs face lit up. âSo you settled with just the address?â
âExactly as planned.â
âExcellent,â he replied, a wide smile on his face. âI never would have guessed that Loren would be so predictable.â
âAnd I was sure to include details about the state of his luna. You should have seen his reaction,â I added with a wink.
âGood job, Luciano,â he said, shaking my hand. âYou have impressed me.â
âOh, and there was something he told me that you might like to know,â I began. âHeâs sided with a powerful ally of yours?â
Andrea furrowed his eyebrows. âGustavo Escobar?â
âHe didnât mention a name.â
He leaned back into his chair and stared ahead for a few moments in thought.
âFetch my wife, will you?â he replied. âI have just realized something that has made me exceedingly angry.â
âGladly.â
I hurried upstairs and marched into the library where I knew Ella would be. Where she usually seemed to be.
She looked up from her book momentarily and scowled. âPiss off, Luciano.â
I grinned with the intention to unsettle her and easily succeeded. Her eyes snapped back to me, and her eyebrows creased as she closed her book.
âWhat?â she asked, looking me up and down.
âYour alpha is dead,â I teased.
I watched as my words sunk deeper in and the shock faded to a choking, suffocating grief. Her lip quivered, and the book she clutched in her hands dropped to the floor, the pages crinkling on impact.
âFucking hell, Ella,â I said, grinning through my teeth. âIâm kidding. But you need to get a grip.â
âThatâs not funnyâ was all she said, before wiping the tears from her eyes and taking a deep shaky breath.
âWell, you better get used to the idea because he will be soon,â I replied with a shrug as I leaned my hand on the doorframe. âAnyway, Andrea wants you downstairs. He seems really pissed.â
âIâm busy,â she said, pulling her hands into the sleeves of her sweater.
âNot sure he really gives a shit,â I replied. âNow move it.â
She shook her head and cowered farther into the armchair she was curled up in.
âFear doesnât look good on you, hun,â I said. âChin up and get your ass downstairs. Donât make me drag you.â
âFuck off, Luciano,â she hissed.
âTime is ticking, babe,â I replied, looking at my watch. âAnd Martinez is only getting angrier.â
âI havenât done anything,â she protested. âWhy is he mad?â
âSomething about a Gustavo Escobar?â I said.
Her face dropped. âShit,â she mumbled under her breath.
She then stood up and marched past me, down the stairs, and toward Andreaâs office. She opened her mouth to speak, but Andrea interrupted.
âLet me guess,â he began, standing up from behind his desk. âAndrea, I can explain,â he mocked. âThen fucking explain, Blanca,â he added, slamming his fist onto the table. âWhy the fuck is your alpha working with Gustavo Escobar?â
âI-I donât know,â she stuttered.
âDonât fuck with me,â Andrea hissed. âI told you about Escobar, and then your alpha sought him out? How so?â
She paused for a moment, clearly unsure of what to say.
âEscobar is a secretive man just like me. How would Loren know to go looking for him?â he asked.
She swallowed but said nothing.
Andreaâs jaw tightened. âDid you inform your alpha about Escobar!?â
His tone was a deep growl, and Ella took a step back. Iâd never seen her this frightened before, and frankly, it was exceedingly amusing.
As she stepped even farther back, I put my hand on her back and pushed her forward again.
âHow the fuck does he know?!â Andrea repeated, grabbing her wrists. âI want the truth.â
He pulled her closer to him and grabbed her face in his hand and stared at her deeply.
She closed her eyes and turned her head away to the floor. âWhen I rang himâ¦in the jungleâ¦with the phone of that man you killedâ¦Javierâ¦thatâs what I really told him,â she replied.
I couldnât help but smile as Andrea slapped her across the face. Hard.
She let out a faint whimper, and for a brief second, her despair-filled blue eyes met mine, her misery thrilling me to the core.
âSometimes I wonder if youâre worth the bother.â He growled.
âThen let me go,â she replied.
Andreaâs eyes then snapped up to me. âTake her away before Iââhe pausedââdo something bad.â
He then shoved her in my direction and sat back at his desk, brooding.
I took her wrist and pulled her out of the office and into the kitchen.
âIce?â I said, opening the freezer.
âTry not to enjoy this too much,â she replied, dabbing her red cheek as a tear rolled down her cheek.
âEnjoying seeing my favorite cousin in pain? The one that is the reason I got exiled from my home pack? Daughter of Nicolos Jones, my favorite uncle?â
I then brought the ice from the freezer to her cheek and kissed her head.
âFuck you,â she replied, glaring up at me.
âWell... Iâd probably have to get permission from husband first, but Iâd be happy toââ
âYou are so sick,â she replied.
I grinned and sat beside her at the table, placing my arm around her shoulder and picking up a strand of her hair. âHowâs Max? I saw him today, but I didnât really get the chance to catch up. Has he found his mate yet?â
âIâm not doing this,â she said, standing up.
I snapped my fingers and pointed back to the chair. âSit. We are going to have a family heart-to-heart whether you like it or not.â
She glared at me, her eyes watery and a pout on her soft lips.
âRemember the big bad alpha ainât here to stop me doing something painful, sweetheart,â I replied. âNow sit.â
Reluctantly, she did, and I rested my arm back on her shoulders.
âI like you better like this,â I said. âWe never got along because your temper and attitude used to piss me off, but now... now things are different. Maybe we can be friends?â
âBefore or after you try and kill my mate?â She raised an eyebrow and folded her arms.
âAnd the old you is backâ¦â
âNot sure I am the issue in our relationship,â she replied. âYou just donât like me because I took your precious best, and only, friend away from you and made him a half-decent person.â
I clenched my jaw. âWatch your mouth, babe. You donât wanna piss me off.â
âTruth hurts, doesnât it?â she replied
âYouâre still surprisingly brave considering your situation,â I said, grabbing her arm. âSo unless you want me to do what I do best and make your life a living hell, I suggest you get back in your place.â
She looked up at me, and I gave her time to respond, but she didnât, and I sat back with a satisfied smile.
âHow many kiddies do you have now?â I asked.
âEight,â she replied shortly.
âAny of them named Luciano yet?â
âNo,â she snapped.
I laughed, ruffling her blonde fluffy hair. âAnd whyâs that?â
âBecause you have done terrible things.â
âSo has Leonardo... yet Iâm pretty sure thatâs Catoâs middle name?â I replied. âHas he ever told you about the time we killed someoneâs granddad? Well, I say we... Leo actually finished him off in the end.â
âNo,â she said quietly as she looked down at her hands.
âOh, itâs a great story,â I replied. âWe were like nineteen, and this kid from another pack pissed your dear Leo off. We didnât plan to murder this elderly man, but we just got... carried awayââ
At that point, Andrea came into the kitchen.
âBlanca, weâre going out,â he barked.
She seemed fairly relieved by the abrupt end to my story, but at the same time, she was not exactly excited about going anywhere near the still fuming Andrea.
âWhere?â she asked.
âTo make Escobar...and your mate pay.â
