Chapter 14 - Nyx face true terror

The Rivera estate was in chaos.

With Alexis’s engagement scheduled just two days later at the royal palace in the capital, the entire household was caught in a flurry of preparations. Servants rushed through halls like battle-ready soldiers, fabric flew like confetti, and everything that could be polished was now polished three times over.

And in the middle of it all…

“Ugh…”

Stella lay sprawled on a lounge chair, a pillow half-draped over her face, hair wild like a celestial storm cloud.

Once upon a time, she could nap without interruption. Sleep was sacred. Life was quiet. Nyx was quiet. But now?

Nyx knew.

Nyx had found out about Alexis’s engagement.

“I wanna go tooooo~!” she’d whined with gleaming eyes, practically vibrating with excitement.

And so now, Stella’s peace was shattered. Permanently.

When the Duchess heard Nyx was planning to attend the engagement party, she hadn’t hesitated. She grabbed the sleepy fox-shaped Eldritch Horror with all the enthusiasm of a woman who had just discovered a new dress-up doll.

That night, while Stella finally found a quiet moment to rest...

Nyx suffered.

Tormented by an endless sea of silk, lace, ruffles, and measuring tapes.

She had stared into the abyss.

And the abyss was fashion.

With her fluffy ten tails making it nearly impossible to fit into standard noble dresses, dozens of tailors were commissioned. Some gave up instantly. Others, inspired by her unique form, swore they’d create something no one had ever seen.

The next morning, a tailor—looking more like a ghost than a man—presented a final dress to the Duchess.

He had worked through the night like a man possessed.

And when the Duchess saw it?

“Nyx~” she sang sweetly, dragging the still-dozing horror from her sunbeam nap spot.

“Nngh—stooooop!” Nyx whimpered as she was lifted like a pillow with legs.

“Time to dress up, dear~”

Nyx’s face turned pale.

The tailor looked equally traumatized, hands shaking as he held out the creation.

Only the Duchess smiled.

And when she finally dressed Nyx in the custom-made gown, her smile grew so wide it nearly cracked her noble composure.

Nyx sat slumped on the floor of Stella’s room like a broken plush toy.

Her normally radiant red hair was a little frazzled. Her ten glorious tails were limp, like defeated flags of a nation that had surrendered to fashion. The color had completely drained from her face.

“So… she made you try on corsets…? With all ten tails?” Stella asked, barely suppressing a grin.

Nyx nodded. Slowly. Hollowly.

And then—

“PFFFFFT—HAHAHAHA!”

Stella burst into full laughter, practically rolling off her bed. “Oh, oh no… oh my stars, I wish I was awake for that—!”

Nyx sulked harder, puffing up her cheeks. “You’re the worst big sister…”

“Nope,” Stella wiped a tear of amusement from her eye, “I’m the best. You just make it too easy.”

After a while, Nyx’s embarrassment simmered down, and they settled into their usual chatter, lounging beside one another like sisters who had existed for millennia—which, in a way, they had.

Then Nyx glanced sideways at Stella, thoughtful. “Hey, big sis… your power. It feels different. More stable now. Is it…?”

Stella nodded, exhaling softly.

“It is.”

She leaned back against the pillows, gaze drifting to the ceiling. “Now that I’ve fully completed my soul… my power is no longer leaking, fluctuating, or lashing out. My soul, which was already nearly immeasurable, finally finished its last puzzle piece.”

Nyx tilted her head. “And the core?”

“Merged.” Stella smiled faintly. “The Infinity Core of Beyond is now completely wrapped within my soul. When the merge completed, my soul actually bent into the shape of the infinity symbol—as if it was always meant to contain it.”

Nyx blinked, fascinated.

“You mean… your soul became the shell that Beyond never had?”

Stella nodded again. “Exactly. That was the reason the being called ‘Beyond’ could never travel to other dimensions. He was pure cosmic mass, no soul—just uncontrolled, overflowing energy. His aura alone distorted reality and shattered stability. But now…”

She held up her hand, and for a brief second, a soft golden spiral flickered across her palm—the shape of infinity itself, glowing like a silent star.

“…he has a home. In me. I’m his vessel. And because I’ve become whole, I can suppress and use every fragment of his power freely.”

Nyx stared for a long moment, then smiled.

A warm, relieved smile.

“Good,” she whispered. “You looked like you were in pain before, trying to contain all of it. You were pushing your soul to keep up… and it hurt you. But now…”

“Now it doesn’t.”

Stella’s voice was quiet. Almost peaceful.

And in that silence, Nyx’s smile grew just a little more.

If Stella was happy…

Then so was she.
