Chapter 71

His Rebel

Layla's POV

The last three months felt like years but went away in minutes.

I was strictly told not to get up from bed other than to go to the bathroom, and I would've tried sneaking, but Sinn was on guard, keeping his eye on my every move.

Just like that, those boring three months have passed, and now I can do whatever I want.

Sinn told Sienna to move in with us with all her equipment which would be needed to check up on me in case of an emergency Sienna was glad to do it and I was too cause I like her.

She feels like an older sister I never had cause I've been an only child my whole life.

Sienna had every piece of equipment with her, even an ultrasound machine. She worked in a hospital under Papa Don where they treated the mafia people, and now that he's gone, Sienna is pretty much in control of it as she was his most trusted doctor there.

I got an ultrasound done, and Sienna told me I'm now almost 4 months pregnant.

My belly has grown, but if I wear an oversized shirt, I can hide it.

I was beyond bored bedridden for three months, I wanted to do something, so I asked Sienna if I could work out, and she gave me her approval but told me not to go overboard.

I sat down to catch my breath after working out for almost an hour when I felt a cold sensation on my cheek.

I opened my eyes and saw Sinn holding an orange juice against my cheek.

I grabbed it from him, and he came to sit beside me. I emptied the whole thing and put it aside, and I lay down on Sinn's lap, making myself more comfortable. And his lap is very warm and calms me.

He started stroking my back, and my muscles relieved all their tension from the workout.

"I hope you're following Sienna's instructions and not going hard on yourself." He told me as he pulled my hair from my face and gently massaged my shoulders.

"I am, don't worry. I wouldn't want to get on complete bedrest again. It was excruciatingly boring."

Sinn chuckled at my remark, and I couldn't help but smile myself.

"Didn't you say you'll visit your cousin?" Sinn asked me after a brief pause, and I widened my eyes in realisation as I sat up and looked at him.

"Yes, it slipped my mind." He smiled at me as he tucked my hair behind my ear.

"Should we go now and get it done with?" He asked me, still looking at me with a hint of a smile.

He's in a good mood.

I smiled, looking at him, "I don't see why we shouldn't."

The drive to Jasper's was peaceful. I stared out the window gazing at the familiar landscape.

The last time I came back was when I ran away after I kissed Sinn out of embarrassment.

Sinn parked the car and came out to get me. I rang the bell, and in a few seconds, I was greeted with Suzzie's cute smile as she widened her eyes and almost immediately hugged me.

"Layla, you're back!" I hugged her back, and as if she realised something, she pulled me back and looked me straight in the eyes.

"Don't tell me," she stared down at my stomach, where I was wearing a black oversized swearshirt cause it was just comfortable. I had no intentions of hiding my belly.

I nodded my head as I smiled, and she hugged me again. "I can't believe this."

Her eyes landed at something behind me, and she froze on her spot. She pulled back from the hug, and I could see she looked intimidated.

I turned to look back and saw Sinn standing behind me protectively, and the face he had on would surely intimidate the bravest.

I elbowed him, and he looked down to meet my gaze.

"You're scaring her." I told him, and he looked ahead at her.

"Can't help. My face is like that." He said simply, and I crossed my arms.

"No, it's not. That's not how you look at me." I reasoned.

"Everyone's not you." He said, meeting my eyes, and I could feel the intensity before I heard Suzzie laughing awkwardly, and I looked at her smiling. She must've felt like she was interrupting something.

"Come in, Jasper's inside." She motioned us to come in, and we did.

"Where else would that guy be other than rotting here." I said jokingly, and Suzzie smiled. She's as cute as the last time I saw her.

I put my hand against her shoulder and said to her in a low voice, "Does he trouble you? If he does, tell me, and I'll break his nose."

I told her, meaning my words, and Suzzie waved her hand no, "No, Layla, I'm absolutely fine. He doesn't trouble me."

"That's what you always say, I don't know what you see in that blondie." I told her, and she looked at me taken aback that I said that.

"I know that you like him, Suzzie. I've known for years." I told her, and she widened her eyes before she looked down at the ground.

"Is it that obvious?" She asked, and I pinched her cheek. "It is, but it's also that I know you so well."

It made her eyes lit up as she simled at me her brightest smile.

Jasper was in the living room barking orders at someone when he saw me and crossed his arms.

"Welcome back, Layla. I've seen you've accomplished your mission to kill your father." He greeted me, but then his eyes widened in astonishment as he saw the tall figure behind me.

"S-Sinnn Phoenix?" He stuttered, and I wanted to laugh, but I just smirked.

"You recognize him?" Jasper looked at me when I asked him and said, "Why wouldn't I? He's one of the Three Devils."

Jasper ignored me and walked over to Sinn, whose burning gaze I could feel on myself this whole time. He kept a distance when I was talking to Suzzie, but I could feel him watching me.

"To what I owe the pleasure of you visiting?" Jasper asked in his very pleasing tone, which I saw him use only for his own gain.

Sinn took his eye away from me for the first time since we came here and acknowledged Jasper's presence.

"I'm here with her. I'm taking her back with me." He stated in his usual tone, which he uses with everyone, and Japser looked at me in confusion.

"But I thought the mission was over, and she'll come back?" Jasper asked me as he waited for an explanation.

And I sighed before telling it to him. "You see, Japser, I can't because of this." I kept it short as I stroked my enlarged belly to show him what I'm referring to, and his eyes widened as he looked at me them at Sinn before he looked at me again.

"I've come here to wind-up. And I have to talk to you." I told him.

Jasper led me to his study, and Sinn waited for me outside while Suzzie was left with him and was still intimidated by him, but Sinn took out his phone and stared down at it.

Jasper shut the door to his study as he exhaled. He must've been on edge with Sinn there.

"I heard you squashed Papa Don's head, making him unrecognizable." Jasper asked before I could say anything.

I sat in the chair, and Japser went to sit in his.

"I did." I said simply.

"In this state?" He asked me, and I rolled my eyes at him.

I saw a knife sitting in his table, and I picked it up and stared at it. It was sharp. If I graze it against his neck, I'm sure he'll die of blood loss.

"Do you know how I killed my father?" I asked him, staring at the sharpened knife.

He didn't say anything as I looked at him, "I stabbed him in the neck with my dagger and watched him bleed to death. All in this condition."

I stabbed the knife on his table, which startled him as I glared at him.

"If you're not serious about Suzzie, let her go. If I catch you playing with her feelings, pregnant or not, it's the same for me, cause I'll kill you. You hear me?"

He must've understood my threat and that I'm not playing with him cause I saw him gulp and nod a yes.

"Good, then I'll take my leave. Be sure to treat her well if you decide to be with her cause if I see her shed a single tear because of your pathetic ass, see what I do."

I stood up and left. I hugged Suzzie and told her I'll keep in touch as I left with Sinn.

We came back home and I was famished. Sinn cooked me dinner, and after I ate it, I brushed my teeth and went to lay down in bed cause my legs were starting to hurt from today's adventure.

I closed my eyes as I focused on my breathing, and I heard Sinn come into the room. I opened my eyes and smiled as he came to lay beside me.

I snuggled close to him, and Sinn pulled me to him as he rubbed my back for me. It has almost turned into a daily routine, him rubbing my back for me.

Sinn's hand traveled in top of my swollen belly as he stroked it and went down to kiss it lingering there for a brief moment.

I stroked his hair as we were finally done with my father and Papa Don and starting to live life normally.

"Have you thought of names?" He asked me, and I smiled as he came to look at me, his hand still rubbing my belly.

"Kind of. Since we're keeping the gender a secret, I'll know it once it's born for sure."

Sinn shook his head as he stared at my belly, and I stared at him.

"What about you?" He looked at me and then back at my belly, hugging it as his head was against it. He could hear my stomach churning if I got hungry, but thankfully, I'm stuffed.

"It's up to you. I'll love whatever you name it." He said, and I stroked his hair as he laid on me carefully so as not to suffocate me and the baby with his weight.

"It's not even here, and I'm starting to feel attached." Sinn spoke, and I smiled, knowing the feeling all too well.

"I've never agreed more with someone."

We were having the feast today which we couldn't have cause I was on bed rest and they wouldn't do it without me for which I'm glad cause I would've felt the greatest fomo of my life.

I felt my belly as it had grown a lot since I'm nearing my due date. The baby will be here any day, and I still can't comprehend me being pregnant.

The last months have been great. Sinn and I were almost like a normal couple, and I say almost cause we're still affiliated with the mafia, but apart from that, we've been having a great time together.

I got to know a lot of things about him which I didn't have a chance to before and so for him too. He got to know about my likes and pet peeves.

I got to know how if Papa Don didn't force him to join the mafia, he would've been a doctor. He studied discreetly before he was flooded with work and couldn't any longer.

I vaguely remember seeing medical related books on his floor, but I didn't think much of it at the time.

Hearing that angered me so much that I wanted to smack his skull all over again, but Sinn told me it's all in the past, but it still bothered me.

Now we were gathering with everyone, including Sienna, at a barbecue place just ten minutes from the mansion. Sinn wanted for the place to be close to home because of me.

"Cheers to Sinn and Layla for making us uncles!" Leo cheered, and everyone clanked their glasses, and I rolled my eyes but smiled since I was the only one having to drink juice, but I'll do it for my baby.

They downed their drinks while Sinn had his sophisticatedly, sipping small sips.

Sienna put her hand on my shoulder and said to my ear cause of the loud chattering.

"Are you sure you're okay? You can go into labor any day." I nodded my head, reassuring her that I'm fine.

Sinn stared at me and I narrowed my eyes at him as we had a small argument before coming here cause  he told me not to go to the feast, and that he can make it happen another day because of my nearing due date.

I wouldn't budge since I didn't want it to be postponed any longer cause after the baby is born, I don't know how long it would take for us to have a gathering, so I wanted the feast to no longer get delayed.

I turned away from him, still annoyed at him, but I felt his eyes on me still.

I craved some fresh air, so I got up. Sienna looked at me, but I told her I was going to the bathroom. She asked to tag along, but I told her I'll be quick.

I wanted to have some time alone without stressing anyone over me. I appreciate them, but sometimes I want to have time to myself. I know it's selfish of me since they are only looking out for me.

I walked out of the restaurant from the smoke and inhaled fresh air. I walked a bit further and scanned the road, and saw a bench on the other side of the road where a little boy was sitting.

I furrowed my eyebrow as it was quite late for a kid to be sitting all by itself. And where he didn't seem safe.

I neared him when I saw a man approach him. I stopped thinking it must be his father when the boy scooted away from him, seeming uncomfortable.

It was enough signal for me that this guy was bad news when I stopped in front of them with a forced smile.

"May I help you, sir? What business do you have with my son?" I lied, and the little boy, who looked around six, stared at me as if he must've sensed I wouldn't hurt him and was trying to protect him. He grabbed my hand.

I held his hand tightly as I glared at the guy. "Nothing, I was just asking where his parents were. You see, it's not safe to leave your child alone. There are many bad people out at this time of the night." I stared at him, my face probably giving away my disgust of him.

"I was just leaving." He said as he scanned me, and his eyes lingered at my stomach.

"Or maybe not, you won't be able to do much against me in that state of yours." He smirked as he yanked the boy away from me before I could decipher his words.

The little boy screamed as he reached out for my hand, and I felt anger boil in me as I grabbed the guy by his collar to stop him.

He tried pushing me away, but I kicked him, making him fall to the ground as he let go of the boy, and he came to stand behind me.

I pulled his face up by his hair and glared at him.

"Don't you ever underestimate a mother." I slammed his head down and kicked him before I felt someone grab my shirt from behind.

I turned around and saw the little boy in distress as he held my shirt.

I crouched down, with a bit difficulty due to the size of my belly, to his level, and hugged him. It was then I felt that the poor boy was shaking.

"Don't worry, he won't come near you anymore." I stroked his back in order to calm him, and he hugged me back with his little hands as he sobbed.

"I left home cause I was angry at momma for making me sleep early." The little boy said in between sobs in his baby voice.

I chuckled softly as I pulled away and wiped his tears from his cheeks. "Your momma only wants what's best for you. If you go to sleep, you'll grow up quickly." I said what my mom used to tell me whenever I used to fuss over, not going to bed early.

"Now, never ever leave home without letting your parents know. You know there are bad guys around. Okay?" I asked him, and he nodded as he sniffed, rubbing his eyes.

I smiled, looking at this adorable boy who must've been traumatized by this situation.

"Layla!" I heard Sinn calling my name, and I turned my neck still crouched when I saw Sinn's distressed self coming to me.

"I was looking for you. What are you doing-" he stopped when he saw the unconscious body of the guy laying. He looked at me from it, and I smiled at him cheekily.

"What happened?" He asked me in a demanding voice, which he only used when I was under him.

"That guy was abducting this poor boy." I stroked the boy's cheeks as he was still sniffing from crying.

"I couldn't let it slide."

Sinn exhaled silently as he crossed his arms. "You could've called me."

I looked at him over my shoulder. "I didn't have time to think. It was either I did it or he would've taken the boy."

Sinn didn't argue as he knew I was right. "You did a good job of dealing with him. I'm sure he would never be able to walk again."

"He deserves it." I spat feeling rage of what that guy was doing.

Sinn had a small smile on his face as he stared at me, but I was still glaring.

"I know. Please get up. You shouldn't stay in this position for long." He told me now in a much gentler voice, and I gave in cause it was really uncomfortable, and I was starting to feel pain.

I nodded as he helped me stand up. The little boy looked at us, and maybe it was cause he saw Sinn help me that he didn't seem scared of him.

I held Sinn's hand for support as I stood up, and he held me by my shoulder.

"Where are his parents?" He asked me, and I told him about the ordeal. He nods his head in understanding.

"I'll call Leonardo and Yuri to make sure he's taken safely to his parents." Sinn said, taking out his phone.

"But I-" he gave me a look which told me he won't hear me this time and I didn't try cause I was exhausted myself, and I knew Leonardo and Yuri would take him safely.

They both arrived with Sienna, the rest already having left, and Sinn told him what needed to be done, and they took it very seriously.

Yuri saw the still unconscious body of the man and looked at me.

"Layla, you scare and amaze me." Yuri said as Leonardo and Sienna saw what he was talking about, and Sienna looked at me almost immediately.

"Layla! What have I told you about being careful. What if you went into labour!" She told me more like scolded me, and she was really her brother's sister.

I gave Sinn a look before I smiled at Sienna. "But I didn't, and it had to be taken care of it was an emergency." She shook her head at me.

"Let's take the little man right here to his parents." Yuri said, but the boy hid behind me.

I looked down at him and then at Sinn. I turned to face the guy but he was too short and I couldn't crouch to be on his level so I picked him up, feeling slight pain, and placed him on the bench to stand so he's on my eye level.

"They're my friends. They'll take you to your parents, trust me." I told him, and the boy was still unsure when I saw him looking at someone.

I turned to see who it was, and it was Sienna. I understood that he felt more comfortable with a woman escorting him than a man.

"Sienna, can you please join them in taking him to his parents?" Sienna looked at me and then at the little boy who looked at her with his large tearful eyes and nodded her head, smiling softly.

"Now you'll be good?" I smiled as the boy gave me a smile for the first time.

"What's your name?" I asked him, and he told me in his sweet voice.

"River."

"That's a pretty name for a handsome boy like you, River. Now make sure to keep in mind what I told you, alright? Take care."

River leaned forward and hugged me before mumbling a soft, "Thank you."

Sienna took his hand, and he jumped off the bench, and I waved him goodbye as Yuri Leonardo and Sienna escorted him.

I sighed as they drove off and turned to find Sinn staring at me.

"I'll take your lecture after we're home. I'm exhausted." I told him as I started walking when I felt a gush of water dripping down as if something had popped.

I froze on my steps, feeling the wetness drip down my trousers.

"Sinn." I called his name in a low voice.

He came to stand in front of me.

"I feel like I peed myself, which can only mean one thing." I looked at him as a sharp pain hit me out of nowhere coming in waves.

"My water broke."
