Chapter 17

LUCIFER SPEAKS

Religious poems

I look at myself in the smoke,

but what do I see? A silent joke.

Adulteries, others' embarrassing dreams,

I don't see what my belief redeems.

I no longer see the infants, so small,

You've grown, little monsters, each one of you tall.

Take my words, they're yours to keep,

The times are ours, in them we'll steep.

I look at myself in the lips, so red,

From which a cry of anger is said.

It knows no lies, not a single one,

It is the truth that cannot be undone.

There's no mercy without my name,

Only discord, calling me the same.

I am pure light, unashamed,

I sow fear but dreams are claimed.

How many bullies have I made known?

They used their teeth, sharp as stone.

They pierced the light three hundredfold,

But it still leads their heads so bold.

Through every trial, through every strife,

It's always light that guides their life.
