Chapter 154
I'm Sorry My Love Novel
Chapter 154 Nothing Left to Lose
Zoe could tell that Leanna wanted to be alone with Georgina, so she reluctantly walked out of the
hospital room.
Once Zoe left, Georgina sat down on the couch beside the bed and said, âI was sorry to hear that you
lost your child, Miss McKinney.â
âThereâs nothing to feel sorry for. Thereâs no point in trying to hold onto something that doesnât belong
to me. Itâd be futile anyway,â Leanna responded flatly, her expression indifferent.
âMiss McKinneyââ
âYou should get to the point, Miss Crossley.â
Georgina smiled. âItâs nothing. I just wanted to come and give you a word of advice. As for everything
elseâ¦â She paused for a moment before continuing, âPerhaps you didnât know, Miss McKinney, but
when you left the Pearson Family Estate that day, my father arranged for someone to pick you up. His
intention was to take you to a safer place. None of us couldâve predicted that this would happen
instead. Please donât misunderstand, Miss McKinney. My father does not mean to do you any harm. Itâs
just that Aidan and I will get married soon, so he probably thinks thatâ¦â
She left the remaining words unsaid, but Leanna got the message.
Georgina and Aidan were about to get married, so his ex-wifeâs presence would only be a hindrance to
their relationship.
Seeing that Leanna remained silent, Georgina spoke up again. âIt goes without saying that I donât doubt
you, Miss McKinney, but my father has his concerns. My marriage to Aidan is also an alliance between
Pearson Group and Crossley Group, so he has to consider all possibilities.â
After a few moments, Leanna finally said, âI know what you want to tell me, Miss Crossley.â
Georgina kept her smile and did not respond.
âYou have nothing to worry about, Miss Crossley. Now that my child is gone, Aidan and I have nothing
to do with one another anymore,â Leanna said.
âWill you be staying on in Highside, Miss McKinney?â
When Leanna heard the question, her lips curved into a faint smile that was difficult to read. âWhy not?â
she asked.
Georgina had not expected such a response from her, and her expression shifted slightly, but she
quickly masked her reaction. âI just assume that you would despise staying on here after all that youâve
gone through.â
âThe only thing despicable here are those people.â
Leanna had tried her hardest to leave because she wanted to protect her child, but since her child was
gone, she had nothing left to lose, and thus nothing to fear anymore.
âYouâre right, Miss McKinney. It was a lapse of judgment on my part. In that case, if you ever need help,
feel free to let me know.â
âThatâs very kind of you to offer, but it wonât be necessary,â Leanna replied. âI donât want to have
anything to do with the Pearsons anymore, so accept my apologies, Miss Crossley, but I donât ever
wish to see you again.â
Georgina chuckled. âI thought we were friendsââ
âDo you truly wish to be friends with your fiancéeâs ex-wife, Miss Crossley?â Leanna asked plainly.
Georgina did not try to respond to that. Her expression turned stoic as she got up and said, âYou are a
strong and independent woman, Miss McKinney. It is a pity that your life has turned out this way.â
âI wish you a happy marriage, Miss Crossley.â ⦠When Leanna felt well enough to move about, she
went over to Ronâs ward, but he was long gone. âI think that patient mustâve done something illegal.
The police came to see him a few days ago, and he fled out the window when they came to his room,â
a nurse informed her. Leanna pursed her lips and thanked the nurse before returning to her room. She
was discharged from the hospital two weeks later.
Zoe brought her back to the apartment she rented, but before that, she asked Zoe to make a detour.
The Pearsonsâ men had gotten to her within Luxâs vicinity, so some of her belongings were still at
Castor Villa.
When Leanna came in, Alice rushed over to greet her. âYouâre back at last, Miss McKinney. You havenât
had your lunch yet, right? Iâll go and prepare something for youâ¦â
Leanna smiled and said, âThanks, Alice, but Iâm heading off soon. Iâm just here to pick up a few things.â
âDid you and Master get into a fight again?â Alice asked in concern before sighing. âMaster left on a
business trip a while ago and heâs not back yet. Why donât you wait till he comes back first?â
âNo need,â Leanna responded calmly. âWe didnât fight, but heâs about to get married, and Iâ¦â After a
pause, she continued, âI donât have a reason to stay here any longer.â
Alice had not known about this at all, so her expression was full of disbelief.
Leanna nodded at her and went upstairs to collect her things. She did not have much in the first place,
so it only took her a few minutes to pack everything. When she came down, Alice was still rooted to the
spot. It seemed like she was conflicted.
âAlice, thank you for all that youâve done for me during this time. Iâll be leaving now,â Leanna said.
Alice did not know what to say at a time like this. âIâll see you to the door, Miss McKinney.â
When they got to the door, Alice could not stop herself from saying, âMiss McKinney, I donât know what
happened between you and Master, but his bark is worse than his bite, and he never says what he truly
feels. You twoâ¦â
Alice had witnessed their relationship throughout the past three years. Even though they quarreled
every now and then, anyone who took the time to observe them would know that they were very fond of
each other.
Why did it turn out like this?
Leannaâs footsteps halted and she said with a smile, âThank you, Alice. You donât need to see me out
the door. Iâll come and visit you when I have a chance.â
âAlright, Miss McKinney. Do take good care of yourself.â
Once Leanna climbed back into the car, Zoe asked softly, âIs Aidan going to let you leave like this?â
Leanna fell into a daze for a moment before saying, âHe got what he wanted. Thereâs no reason for him
to keep me around any longer. Alsoâ¦â
She chuckled half-heartedly as she recalled what Alice told her. âAidan isnât here. He went on a
business trip.â
âWhat the f*ck?â Zoeâs eyes widened incredulously. âHow can he do that? How can he leave on a
business trip knowing that you were still hospitalized after that accident?â
Leanna did not share Zoeâs indignance as she had not expected otherwise from Aidan.
That child was probably nothing more than a burden to him.
Under the circumstances, it would not be surprising if he threw a party to celebrate, so a business trip
was nothing.
Once they arrived at Leannaâs apartment, Louis was there waiting for them. During their call earlier on,
Leanna had lied to Louis and said that she had gone on vacation.
However, Louis saw that she had lost a significant amount of weight and her complexion was rather
sickly.
He glanced down at her abdomen before tightening his lips into a straight line, but he did not ask her
anything. He took Leannaâs suitcase from her and headed upstairs without saying a word.
âSince Louis is here today, why donât we get some pizza? Itâs getting a little cold, and Iâm in the mood
for a warm pizza with soft, gooey cheese,â Zoe suggested.
âSure,â Leanna responded with a smile.
